    $20 Stretch

I whine about being broke, but truthfully, its been a really long time since I've been that broke and needed to be that disciplined.
  2. In actual fact, the amount most insurance companies pay out is almost always much less than what was billed.
  3. As other people have pointed out, the bill is about average for an ER visit with X rays, possible even on the low side. It has NOTHING to do with his being British! (not to mention, your logic makes no sense! Why would a health care professional assume a Brit or Canadian would have medical insurance when they don't need it?) I agree that healthcare costs in this country are outrageous, but your assumption that foreigners are automatically over charged is pretty insulting. When it comes to overcharging the US healthcare system has a strict equal opportunity policy! I do agree that its worth a phone call to try and get the bill reduced.
  4. If you get the DVD for Goldmember, the opening scene is similar, and if I'm not mistaken, the stunt almost went horribly wrong.
  5. Well, fist of all, sadly $1,000.00 for an ER visit with X rays sounds about average, and I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't more misc. bills in addition to that. Since it is your bill, I think you should make arrangements to pay it and not try to skip out on a technicality. (Sorry, I know that's not what you want to hear, but one of the reasons our medical costs are so high is because too many people don't pay their bills!) I do believe there is a statuatory timeframe for billing, however you would probably have to prove they didn't bill you or make any effort to to collect previously. (if they could provide a bill they sent even if it was to the wrong address, they'd be in the clear.)
  6. John, You must drive slow. (does your car need a weight belt too?) I'd say they are no more than 30 minutes apart and that's being conservative. I will concede its been a while since I made the drive though! Skydive Chicago is my home dz, so I'm biased, but I do agree with John that its someplace you should experience. If you are there for a weekend, spend one day there and one day at Hinckley, then decide for yourself which place feels more like home! maura
  7. Honestly, it depends so many different things- how severe the break, how much soft tissue damage, surgery or no surgery, your overall health and attitude and just plain luck. I know its hard bu try and be a little more patient.
  8. Actually, it was the question I called f'ed up, not your perspective. And perhaps that was a poor choice of words, but it IS dark. I don't consider myself to be religious or spiritual, but on some level I believe in a higher power and that things happen for a reason. I don't claim to know what that reason is, but if I ever figure out my purpose on this planet, I'll be sure to let DZ.com know!
  9. You cited some good reasons NOT to notify the authorities unless you knew the people directly involved. Good intentions can have bad results, I agree with that. But making base jumping more difficult for others in the area is not a valid reason IMO. Sadly, one bad apple CAN spoil the whole bunch (or at least spoil things for the "good apples") and that's a fact of life. Place the blame where it belongs- on the bad apple! That was my only point. I don't know Tree, I don't know Jimmy, I don't know the 16 year old child involved or her parents but it does seem more like a family issue at this point.
  10. There is absolutely nothing you can do at this point! She is probably as embarrassed as you are and I doubt she'll ever mention it again.
  11. I've got to comment on this. IF what Jimmy is doing is illegal and unethical (notice the big IF before you jump all over me) he's the one who is jeapardizing the lifestyles of the other local base jumpers in the area, not Tree (who by the way seems to be barred from discussing this topic any further in any forum) or anyone else who chooses to notify the authorities in the best interest of the CHILD involved.
  12. Do I have to explain WHY that's true?
  13. Its a known fact that single women do not fart!
  14. Whoa, take it easy, it was just an answer to YOUR question. If the question offended me, I would not have answered it, BUT there's a huge difference between the words "could", "might" and "should" and I'm not the only who made that distinction. Instead of singling me out with your faces, you might want to ask yourself why you worded your question the way you did. That's kind of a dark way of thinking if you ask me. And sorry, I know you just wanted to tear apart my post and twist my words, but I don't get your logic at all. Maybe I'm a little slow this morning.
  15. Maybe that's a glass half full/ half empty kind of distinction.
  16. As others have pointed out, that's kind of a f'ed up question. Close calls? Yes- one in particular that could easily have ended badly. *SHOULD* have died? Who is to say? I'm still here, and I'd like to think I'm here for a reason. If I honestly believed I should have died, then my life now would be pretty meaningless, right?
  17. 2 days but I stayed for 5 years. Glutton for punishment, I guess!
  18. __________________________________________ He can't be much of a troll... folks respond to him!? That's the sign of a good troll. Exactly! Thanks Wild Blue, you beat me to it!
  19. Too Late! All the good stuff was deleted already!
  20. He doesn't care. He's trolling. That's what Mr. J0nes does.
  21. At least one church I went to as a kid had a room just like that!
  22. I've been wondering too! How did it come out?
  23. Actually, the BeeGees put out some decent music before they went disco.
  24. Have you seen Wedding Crashers? Because I laughed almost non-stop during that one.
  25. Well, in another thread someone boldly stated that averaging a little over 100 jumps a year over 12 years didn't qualify, so now I'm stumped! You see, I believe EVERYTHING I read on the internet!
