    The purpose of this forum is to report, discuss and learn from fatal and serious non-fatal incidents. Most, if not all, new threads here should start with the report of an actual incident. General safety issues or small and potential incidents should be posted to the Safety and Training forum. Incidents include: malfunctions, cutaways, wraps, collisions, crash landings etc. I trust everyone will use their good judgment before starting a thread or disposing of advice. In case of a fatality please post your condolences to the Talkback forum and keep this forum for discussion. It's the year of the Pig.

    I'll never remember all these numbers in freefall. I, 1) Throw the drouge - regardless. 2) release the drouge 3) release the drouge if that doesn't work. (2nd handle) 4) Cutaway. 5) Pull reserve (Either side - depending on disablement or not. I have only 700 Tandems - and 7 Tandem reserve rides. I don't own, pack or maintain the gear in case you're wondering. All I can advise is mentally tick them off after exit - know what comes next - and practice finding them in freefall. t It's the year of the Pig.

    I have 50 round jumps, and 2 round reserve uses. I have over 3000 dives and 15 square reserve rides A round will get you down. A square will get you there. There is no reason for you to even consider a round reserve. t It's the year of the Pig.

    Well... I gotta tell you... when you're in your 40's and you're talking to your boss about your "girlfriend" it does sound a shade adolecent. I use the term "friend." Lover is too graphic, girlfriend to childish. She is my friend. Let them figure it out. t It's the year of the Pig.

    I know all that! I've just never had a term coined by the medical proffesion to describe it yet. So we're activly dying in freefall, and passivly dying under canopy - unless we're riding a mal.. in which case we're active, or funtioning on our malfunction. t It's the year of the Pig.

    I'm going to use that this weekend while debriefing my AFF. Me: So. What was your pull altitude on this dive? Student: Err... 5000 feet? Me: Right. So.. how high were you when I gave you the pull signal? Student: Err... 4500 feet? Me: Right! And what height did you pull at? Student: Err... 4000 feet? Me: Spot on!     I smashed my femur. "Broke" does not describe what I did. I have a scar from knee to ass, and the whole leg was split in surgery and flung over my shoulder as they looked for all the bits they could find. I had a 10 inch plate and 14 screws keeping all the bits together. Looked like a garden rake. I waited 6 weeks. In retrospect, this was madness. I was on crutches for 6 months. I had the plate out 10 months after the break and resumed jumping 2 months after that. It was madness. I was young, dumb, in excellent shape and obsessed in Physio. Now - 16 years later - I realise skydiving will always be here. The people I was trying to stay with in numbers all stopped, it simply didn't matter. What matters is healing and not putting yourself at further risk until you're better. t It's the year of the Pig.
