  1. Yussus Man! Skydiving clothes need skydiving thread! t It's the year of the Pig.
  2. Must have been a deep spot to land in Africa from Z-Hills! I've heard great things about L & B service - and everyone agrees. But don't be the 1st person to have something go wrong - because before the stampeding hordes confirm the problem - you may look like a chancer trying to get something for nothing. t It's the year of the Pig.
  3. I thought you served your country by NOT being shot down. General Patton said - "You don't win a war by dying for your country. You win a war by making other young men die for THEIR country!" (Or words to that effect.) t It's the year of the Pig.
  4. Same as you. I have about 3000+ helmetless dives - although if someone else has a helmet and doesn't want to wear it - I'll always borrow it for take-off. t It's the year of the Pig.
  5. I used to use a Dytter. Batteries lasted 5 years or 1000 dives. I've been using a Pro Dytter since they were released. I lost my 1st one - using the plastic clip that the dealer said would be fine - and L & B apparently told him they'd never heard of that before - but soon started replacing everyone elses - and supplying rubber bands, cable ties etc, but not mine. I found another - abandoned in an open field, without it's plastic clip.
  6. I registered 11 May 2001, but my 1st Post was only in November. I had 3300 dives then, and I have 3975 now. I've downsized from a 120 to a 107, and have changed from toggle spanks to riser carves. I'm learning to freefly and have started Birdman. No new ratings. I'm A SL I, AFF I and RWS TI. There is no IAD in SA. Goals for the next year - work harder at my swoops, do more fun dives. Goals for the next 5 years - Stay alive - and downsize to a 90 XBraced canopy. t It's the year of the Pig.
  7. It's the law. PASA requires 2 Instructors for L1 to L3. t It's the year of the Pig.
  8. That says it all really, except here in SA, we have no Tandem progression, and BSR's state AFF L1 to L3 will have 2 appropriatly rated AFF Instructors. There are no AFF JM's in SA. t It's the year of the Pig.
  9. What Cessna? Positions may be very different between C172, C182, C185, C206, C207 and C210, particularly if the cargo door is being used. t It's the year of the Pig.
  10. South Africa - 6 Months, and it's always been that way, at least for the last 18+ years. Governing body is PASA (Parachute Association of South Africa) t It's the year of the Pig.
  11. I see why they call you WrongWay now... t It's the year of the Pig.
  12. I've heard that the Icarus Safire is sized about 8% smaller than it's branded. Is this still so? Is it true of the Safire 2? So is a 99 really a 90ish? t It's the year of the Pig.
  13. "Hands off my gear unless asked." Agreed. Although I did know someone with this attitude who went in in 1986 with a twisted leg strap on a Swift System. Great spot. She was low time too, and didn't need any help. Still doesn't. t It's the year of the Pig.
  14. Identical process. With my own gear - I check it in the morning. If I bump something, I'll get another AFF I to check it for me. I have a small rig, and can feel all my pins myself. t It's the year of the Pig.
  15. Well. Talk about thread drift. We started with leaving the sport. Then someone showed us why we would want to leave. (and we flogged your horse to death) Now we're talking about pilots, and who rules them, and whether they get paid. And I'm still not leaving the sport. t It's the year of the Pig.
  16. I was rated as a USPA AFF I, and am currently rated as a PASA AFF I. I have over 1200 AFF dives. I would never take a L1 with only 1 JM. t It's the year of the Pig.
  17. Welcome back! Much has changed, and much is the same. There's a new Cypres, more electronic gizmo's, some waterproof since the gifted now choose to dunk their gear in ponds occasionally. I'd go to the USPA site and download the SIM to see the new stuff and how to get back into it. Good luck. t It's the year of the Pig.
  18. I'm at work. Every few years someone says "What are you going to do when you get too old to skydive?" and I shit myself and get a job. Then I realise if I keep the job I'll never get old cos I'll die of bordom. (DZ.com is staving this feeling off at my present job.) It's a cycle. I'm due to toss it all in and skydive full time again in 2 years. t It's the year of the Pig.
  19. I see it a bit like this. "Will I live if I jump without a rig?" Tonto says "No" Other dude says "Well, in 1943 some dude Blah blah, fire, could'nt reach his rig, blah blah, snow , trees, hillside blah blah, just right and only hurt his knee. Tonto asks dude "Would you try it?" Dude says "No" Of course there are situations which may result in unexpected positive (or negative) outcomes. Are the likely? Would you bank your life on them? Try them? Would you have your student place faith in them in some miniscule way other than properly practiced procedures developed over decades? No. t It's the year of the Pig.
  20. So... you gonna try it? In the interests of safety I think it's important that we ask people to wear skydiving gear, and to use the gear they wear. Failure to do this could result in much higher fatality stats. t It's the year of the Pig.
  21. I'm not sure if I understand your question. I'm now divorced. (Trust is like the soul. Once departed, it never returns.) I'm a weekend dad, and I take both kids, now aged 9 and 5. Both call me Dad, but Shanna has never been lied to. She knows she has 2 Dad's, 3 Grannies, 3 Gandpa's. Her Dad has not seen her since her 1st Birthday, and has never paid maintenance for her. I don't think the desision of paying maintenance was a particularly "noble" act, as if I'd failed to do so, the standard of living of my own daughter would have diminished, although that motivation has long ceased to exist. I love them both, but have no rights to one. Non whatsoever. I worry about what would happen to them in the event of my ex wife's death. I'd get Caleigh, and would want Shanna too, but I don't know what the courts whould think of that. t It's the year of the Pig.
  22. Ahh. Learn something new every day! I work in 1200 x 1600 on a 17" monitor. I went to 800 x 600 and could do no better, so I guess you're right. I have a 1 pixel cursor? Really? That explains my difficulty when playing "Vietnam" t It's the year of the Pig.
