    double total

100% when you don't use your gear and no AAD is fitted. That's something far more likely to happen than the gear failing. t It's the year of the Pig.
  2. Some pro swoopers are now initiating their swoops at around 700 ft and their canopies are aproaching 79mph vertical speed. Always a 1st time I suppose - but it has not yet happened. t It's the year of the Pig.
  3. This should be a seperate thread. I'm not a rigger. I've made my own "slinks" (Soft links) for over 3000 dives now - or since about 1992. Just spectra looped through the riser and lines 4 times, a series of knots sewn shut and the loose end tacked inside the riser. I've never had a problem. I never change canopies - apart from riser/line replacement. around every 500 dives. No convenience. New links each time - or about 30 min of work. I feel (very subjective word that..) people are putting themselves at risk for little gain. Most jumpers don't even do 500 dives in a lifetime. Of those that do, few replace risers every 500 dives or check trim/replace lines when required. So many people have said that gear is safe that we're actually begining to beleive it. Bill Booth believes that gear is 10 times safer than those who use it - and I agree, but that doesn't mean gear is safe. My opinion only. I've seen a lot of stuff over the last 18 years. t It's the year of the Pig.
  4. Because I looked at your profile, and you're jumping a 170, not a 79. t It's the year of the Pig.
  5. For the same reason they used to put soft housings in rigs that made it near impossible to cut away at all, or release things like "slinks" that can cause malfunctions. Never believe that ANY manufacturer has your best interests at heart. They're there for the money. Remember that, do your homework, know your history, and you'll be OK. t It's the year of the Pig.
  6. Just to add that a premature deployment at those speeds on your main or reserve is really going to spoil your day - so make sure your pins are indecent... t It's the year of the Pig.
  7. Same surface area, more weight = faster. Physics bullshit is all in a vacuum. We don't skydive in a vacuum. Take 2 A4 pages. Crumple one into a ball. Drop both. Which one goes faster? t It's the year of the Pig.
  8. Buddhist. t It's the year of the Pig.
  9. Would that be the skydiver equivalent of "Any port in a storm?" t It's the year of the Pig.
  10. "Perfect speed.. is being there" All jumpers have a RANGE. You will skydive best at the middle of that RANGE. If yours and your jump partners RANGE is identical, your dives will be simpler to do. If your ranges don't overlap at all, the dives will be impossible. t It's the year of the Pig.
  11. Well all I can say to that is that if you think you're a "Master" you're not. If other knowledgeable people think you are, you may be. A bit like "Life of Brian." t It's the year of the Pig.
  12. Stainless. And I don't live near the sea. Always stainless. As for the dude that said heavier... bet he can't tell the difference in weight between identical rigs with different sized mains, let alone stainless vs. Nickel... t It's the year of the Pig.
  13. Air. Nothing works without the air moving past you. That same scary, swirling stuff in the door that seems scary, is your best friend. Ask your instructor to show you the deployment sequence on the ground. (If you were not shown this on your 1st jump course..) t It's the year of the Pig.
  14. Bungies. Tube stows... not so good... t It's the year of the Pig.
  15. 180 days in South Africa. t It's the year of the Pig.
  16. Not true. I have 1200 AFF dives and I've never done one of my students. Not even one of the female ones. t It's the year of the Pig.
  17. I have maybe 500 out of a 182. I have another 2000+ out of 185's, 206's, 207's and 210's. I've done 16 ways out of 182's and 12 ways out of a pair of 206's. Were it not for Cessna's - I would never have kept jumping. They are at the core of our sport. t It's the year of the Pig.
  18. 1. The most powerful self defence weapon anyone ever has is their brain. You survived your encounter, maybe even earned some respect. Well Done. 2. "'Fear is the path to the dark side, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate...hate...leads to suffering" Yoda t It's the year of the Pig.
  19. It's a Cessna. Probably a 182, maybe a 172. Not a 185, 206, 207 or 210. t It's the year of the Pig.
  20. Agreed. I left the cutaway handle in place on one wash though, and the ends of the housing damaged the yellow coating on the cables, so I handwash the handles now. t It's the year of the Pig.
  21. Congratulations! I would urge you to pull your reserve handle regardless of whether the RSL had already deployed your reserve or if you have an AAD. Just make it a habit. t It's the year of the Pig.
  22. Agreed 100%. You wrote the post I was about to... t It's the year of the Pig.
  23. I jump a Stilleto 107 loaded to 1.8 I also have some dives on a Crossfire 109 loaded to 1.77 They're very different. I don't think you should be on either - or camera - at your number of dives. Your descriptions of the canopy charecteristics are good though. Stilleto openings can be tricky if you don't load them up right, Crossfire openings can be long - perhaps too long at 800ft. In normal flight they're similar. The Stilleto will out float the Xfire on brakes. Toggle turns are faster than the Xfire. The Xfire recovery arc is way deeper. Toggle pressure is much heavier and stroke is full range. Both are excellent canopies. t It's the year of the Pig.

    Bad Karma?

You have to write a country and Western song to ward off the bad Karma, but wait until your dog bites you and leaves with your girl first.. Hope your luck changes - or you're more careful. Whatever helps most!
