Same advice as everyone else. I have 50+ jumps on 28ft rounds and 3 on round reserves. Get a square reserve loaded to around 1.0. When you're down to your last chance - do you want it to be completely unfamiliar? t It's the year of the Pig.

The "Pimp daddy" one looks better. The "Penis" one feels better. Since I wear it and don't have to look at it - I don't mind too much. t It's the year of the Pig.

If you're an adult and you're going to die - you should have a will. The rest is all about the timing. I have one. t It's the year of the Pig.

Question for those who know a lot about motorcycles
Tonto replied to Vallerina's topic in The Bonfire
There are several aspects to consider. Here (In SA) a sidecar is seperatly licenced, like a trailer would be. It needs it's own roadworthy certificate, and the rider needs to be licenced to ride a bike with a sidecar. Trust me - its a whole new ball game, and not just a shift in steering and braking geometry. Check with the manufacturer to see if a sidecar is recomended or manufactured for your motorcycle. Unless it's a Formula Ugly - I doubt it. Don't become a Darwin Award recipient. Edited to add: Just checked out that link. Looks cool and will get you around half the points I mentioned. Still going to be really interesting when you grab a handfull or try doing endo's though... Good luck! t It's the year of the Pig. -
Are USPA rating recognised in Australia and New Zealand?
Tonto replied to iam's topic in Safety and Training
In South Africa... Your US Master riggers rating would be recognised without any problem. Since your Tandem rating is issued by the manufacturer, that would also be recognised, but our requirements here are higher, being 1000 dives before you can do Tandem or AFF. If you have over 1000 dives, one check out from an evaluator should do it. t It's the year of the Pig. -
Oh, the nerve of some skydivers!!

I don't see the problem with this. Nothing wrong with good horizontal seperation, although in my opinion it would take more than 6 seconds - unless the runin was downwind or the kite quick.(like a King Air.) t It's the year of the Pig. -
Wow. Guess it makes sense though... I have no doubt that many military personel are in and out of countries without getting their passports stamped. t It's the year of the Pig.

Ahh! Well, all attempts at humour are to be encouraged! We live in a mad, mad world! t It's the year of the Pig.

Near identical policy here. More info - including video etc - the better. t It's the year of the Pig.

Thanks for the info. It's legal to jump solo here at 16 with Parental permission, 21 without. There is no age limit for Tandem. t It's the year of the Pig.

Maybe not in the US - but even so - how did Rook and Missy Nelson get going? And Charlie Mullins? I'm in SA, and I'm CI, and I did the Tandem. Mom has no problem with it and the world's youngest is under 2. Youngest in SA is 3 years 11 months. t It's the year of the Pig.

I did a Tandem with my daughter when she turned 8. We've done another since then. She LOVES it! t It's the year of the Pig.

How do you get to thousands of jumps with no cutaways?
Tonto replied to jerry81's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have no idea. I paid good money for my reserve - and I use it every chance I get. 18 years, 17 chops, 7 from Tandem, 7 from Crew, 3 in the other 2600 somewhere... t It's the year of the Pig. -
Not for free, no, but I do get paid for it. Between $33 (for AFF) and $40 (for Tandem) t It's the year of the Pig.

Moderators - here comes a personal attack... Thanks for the disclaimer t It's the year of the Pig.

The hornet is a light eliptical - so cannot be a copy of the sabre - which is square. It was also released before the Sabre 2 - so I'd like to hear your reasoning behind it being a copy. Sounds like your mouth went off before your brain fired up. t It's the year of the Pig.

It's my job. If I never did it - they'd get hungry. I stopped base though. Do you think families in the military should have kids? People shoot at them... t It's the year of the Pig.

No 2, but I look over my head - not to the side. t It's the year of the Pig.

I don't know about that... I had a canopy with yellow in it once - and after about 600 jumps the line trim went out. Something to think about. t It's the year of the Pig.

This is VERY rough, and I have no doubt that Billvon and Quade with have a whale of a time picking holes in it... Subtract 3% off your canopy size for every 1000ft gain in elevation/density altitude. That's what size your canopy will feel when you get to the higher/hotter DZ until you get used to the change. In real terms, it's a downsize. Your recovery arc will change, your stall speed will be higher etc. I jump at a DZ 5000 AMSL and temp changes can range 30 dec C between Summer and Winter. Enjoy. t It's the year of the Pig.

14 months later, and this is how far I've come climbing out of my rut! I canned the Heatwave 100. 3 reasons, mainly. 1. The recovery arc was very shallow. 2. It had a built in turn the manufacturer was unable to correct. 3. Loaded to 2 to 1, 5000ft ASL in the summer - was a little to quick for my 40 something legs. I've done 450 dives since the post before this, of which about 300 have been on a Stilleto 107 loaded to about 1.78. It was second hand, but after having the trim checked and replacing 2 lines (One after a chop) it flies very nicely, and shuts down far better than the Jonathan or Heatwave ever did. It actually feels WAY bigger than those canopies - like about a 135. I toggle spanked it for 100 dives just to get familiar with it.(I'm a very slow learner..) Then, thanks to PM's with SkymonkeyOne and Hookitt, I started my adventure into front riser swoops. All the comments and promises made have come true - but, as always, I still have a long way to go. The canopy still seems to turn VERY fast on risers, so I'm turning (off an alti) at about 450 - 500ft, and getting my best swoops off 270 deg turns. I'm still using trips (such a dinosaur!) but will be moving back to conventional risers within the next 2 months. (100 dives) I'll then start learning the rear riser flare, which I must confess is a bit tricky with trips.. eapecially when you find only one... I'd like to thank SkymonkeyOne and Hookitt for their input and experience, as well as 2 local jumpers, Rob Kruger, for inspiration and Chris Beasley - a former AFF student of mine - for insight into look, feel and learning something new. A couple of thousand dives from now - I should be doing OK! t It's the year of the Pig.

How about putting the unit in a small box, attached to your chest strap - callibrated to 6000ft (as an example) and doing a regular skydive? New cutter - and you're on your way. t It's the year of the Pig.

Does he have any licences, ratings recognised by the FAI, etc? t It's the year of the Pig.
