  1. 0:15:0 OOOOhhhhhh I love hanging in brakes before my 180 now!!!! But wait a minute, where'd my paycheck go? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  2. Im sorry I piss you off, Tom. Ill give you 3 kindey shots at Kim to make up for it. After I track good and hard, I have made it a staple on my jumps, most of which are freefly nowadays, and am very happy with it. I dont lose a heading or much altitude and it makes me feel wqarm and fuzzy. I am confident about my airspace and think personally it works better for me than looking over my shoulders. I think even after looking back down I would dip a shoulder on deployment and I dont like that. I would argue that it is better and more productive for me, but I wont. I will just silently continue (unlike Kim!) See you this weekend, Tom, and stop bending ripcord pins, Hercules! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  3. I dont think there is anything wrong with a properly built hackey, but, I got a monkey fist 500 jumps ago and have'nt looked back. I love it! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  4. A few months ago someone posted a bunch of videos all in one post. It had the aff cypres fire, a 4 way cypres fire and a bunch of other cringing video. A local aff j/m asked me to mail a link to her but I cant find it anymore. Superior searching skills are much appreciated. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  5. Do you have to pre register or can you do it on site? I haven't decided whether I'm going or not. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  6. She's in L.A. for the next few weeks working. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  7. If my gf and I would even consider going to that boogie again we should rent out room. Her parents are building a house in marathon about 3 minutes from the airport. Too bad. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  8. ahhh 1:14:0 Although my beer offenses go unnoticed and unrequested. Now if I can get some nice iced tea for after sunset I'll be in fat city. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  9. Im not to hip yet in all the : marks between the numbers yet but I did 2 late saturday after the wind died and 12 today. Damn Im a whore!!! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  10. The reason x-braced canopies can do what they do is they stay in the shape thay were meant to be in. If you were to load a conventional canopy at say 3.0 you would lose a lot of lift due to airfoil distortion. The canopy during flight doesnt reatain its origonal shape during inputs (such as flaring). A x-braced canopy is more rigid and stays in its designed shape during flight on high winloadings. As far as characteristics? I think those are built into the design of the canopy itself, ie planform shape, trim, line length, ect. I could be in left field but this is what i've come to understand from my endless canopy info binges. By the way I have 537 jumps and jumps a xfire2 169 loaded at 1.4. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  11. I am going to order my next javelin with the plans of my next xfire2. Sunpath has a good lead time so I can jump the piss out of mine for now and maybe start jumping the next one over the winter when there is no one in the air. For the record I'm gonna go to a wingloading of about 1.7 too. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  12. Definetly. I think braked approaches, both slight and deep, can be life savers. I am leary of telling anyone to practice them until they have mastered their full flight approach. But when they have it is the natural proggression. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  13. Set up away from the heavy traffic area but in a place where you can set up a good standard pattern. There is no reason to need to setup a classic accuracy approach. Those hurt. Doing this accuracy shit is not just for a license. Its so you can put it down anywhere you want without thinking. You should know the glide of your canopy, set up so you can glide to your target without having to kill tons of altitude. On my hop'n'pops this weekend I was having fun with a big ball someone left in the landing area. It moved around so it made it more challenging. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  14. Only 2 or 3 more hours and you could hit the ranch. Then you'll have all sorts of stories to tell. As for accuracy, when I had to I like to set up a bit long and use risers or brakes to glide and then just go to full flight when I know i will hit the target. Try not to think about it too much and I'm sure you'll do fine. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  15. Prefered, 5k (or 13.5 if conditions permit as rhino noted). Lowest was 2100 and I was fine with that. Lowest would probably be high enough for my reserve to open before I hit the ground. If not an emergency than I think 1800 if I had to because of clouds. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  16. I pay $65 for air inspect and repack of the reserve and a full inspection of my main. I have no problem with this because I believe in my riggers work. Would I like to pay less? Sure but I dont want to take it to anyone else. And when I think about what he's actually doing to earn that $65 its silly to question it. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  17. I knocked his little head clean off when I got my shot! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  18. ours carries 22 Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  19. The "crossfire disaster" had nothing to do with the design of the canopy. They did not have change the design to fix some problem. There are tons of crossfires out there without any problems. Icarus will still make you a crossfire1 if you want them too. Nothing has been changed on the design of any of their canopies to fix any problem. That cant be said of every manufacturer. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  20. From what I understand, (Im not a physicist nor a canopy designer) when you taper the leading and or trailing edges of a canopy, you affect the cell pressurization. The shorter cells moving at the same speed as the rest of the canopy is going to have a greater air pressure. Icarus scales the height and width of the cells in proportion with the change in chord to keep the aspect ratio constant across the planform. One example that stands out in my mind was a video of someone on a stilleto finding the stall point. It seemed that the center of the canopy started colapsing long before the end cells lost their shape. I have flown my Icarus canopies in turbulence in which other canopies were doing the old "accordian" as jumpers came in to land. I've seen video of my canopies that showed little or no sign of this practice under the same conditions. I believe this also lends itself to Icarus canopies having a longer control range and toggle stroke than many other canopies. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  21. I was talking to aggie on the phone 2 weeks ago about this. The only thing I do different is fold the excess in half and feed it down through the bottom keeper and then put the toggle up through the same keeper. None of the excess finds it way out at all. I do this because I have a large amount of excess on my xfire. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  22. I jump my factory diver with my bob's store $15 OP sunglasses. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  23. If it is a nine cell I'm sure it will be a more fully elliptical design (not the 3 end cells like the stilleto) and it will have a formed nose with a deeper control range and better slow flight capabilities. Just a wild guess though. Follow the leader. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  24. Give a xfire of xfire2 a try to give a real comparason of HP ellipticals. The safire wasnt designed to out perform the stilleto. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  25. I have a jav with the small chest strap. Honestly if your chest strap is done properly I dont think there is anyway it could come undone, doubled or not. I let mine out all the way under canopy and it still has 4 inches or so left over. If that is how loose you have your chest strap I would pull it tighter for you.
