  1. The Neos is going to be released by Icarus Canopies. The designers at CIMSA also designed the Icarus Safire2, Crossfire2 and Omni. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  2. I believe the concept came from advanced wind tunnel testing Icarus was involved with. They found the bracing in the outer cells was not as much as a benefiet as some would have thought. My Neos should be here this week so I will gladly post my thoughts after I have the chance to put a few jumps on it. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  3. The test junpers in Spain have said it is outperforming the VX. This version is braced in the center 3 cells. The one that was braced in the center 5 was the 11 cell prototype that is not ready yet. Still waiting for mine. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  4. they provided the original designs. The Safire2, Crossfire2, Omni were designed by CIMSA. The newer canopies that are coming out are also designed by CIMSA. Daedalus canopies is not affiliated with Icarus Canopies in any way. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  5. I have jumped the 119 and 189 reserves and they opened and flew beautufully. I do not yet have one for a reserve. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  6. That's right, captain, you better watch yourself! And why isn't your goal to become dean of your own canopy school instead of teaching at Pasqualle's. So gay!!!! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  7. Thats why that thing is so unreliable. The pilot absolutely packs bigger. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  8. Here is what I got. Not the best video, but it's what I got handy. I can't speak for Mike, but this turn for me (second landing) was about 550 or maybe a hair lower. Not Mike's best, but he was running the 4 wheeler for the first time in a while. http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=4170 So are we in the corner? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  9. My normal 270 from 550 here I was doing from aobut 650 or a little lower out in eloy. And I should have some video on skydiving movies (unless someone else can host a few seconds of useless video for a while) tomorrow. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  10. Mike isnt in the corner when he turns. Maybe elevations are making the difference. I turn my VX 104 loaded between 2.4 and 2.5 between 500 quick and 650, pretty slow. If anyone wants to see this unbelievable video of us not being in the corner, I'll dig some up. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  11. Yeah, like how he got his name!! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  12. Come and demo some PD canopies (maybe a fat boys Katana?) and sit in on a seminar with Jon LeBlanc. Come watch me outswoop Isiah on my VX (did I say that out loud?) and do some high hop and pops with us. Come swoop the pond and tell us how the pilot let you out 3 feet too high. Come and get hammered with the chicks from Billy's Bitches at our world famous Strawberry Daquiri Party. Not stop chicks and alcohol!! And lets not forget about our weekly poker tournement. (Where I will also wipe the floor with Isiah) Shut up and Jump!!!! www.theblueskyranch.com Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  13. I only put one jump on one of the 117s Dom had at eloy. i got the same opening, except I had to pop the toggles on mine to get it to stop. Dom said it was unusual. I think the canopy was OK. I liked it better than the Katana. But I still get mushy for Xfire2s! I case you didnt know though, I am biased. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  14. I've done jumps where they were not only too tight to disconntect, but too tight to allow a comfortable arched position for my student. I like snug. No room to move, but not restricted in arching. I unhook the lowers, but will now start to clip them on the student harness or together. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  15. What is the liability to the pilot if the rig is "in date" and sealed by an approved rigger? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

    More cowbell

Christopher Walken is the funniest fucker on the planet. The shit he does on SNL is awesome. I recommend the DVD. And his movies, (the funny ones, never watch the serious ones) Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  17. I scrape in the date with my temp pin. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  18. Ohh quit your belly aching and get there saturday morning. What are you going to miss, one jump? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  19. Well some of the manufacturers think the cost for vendors should be down and its not. I know a buch of them were checking with others before they decided if they were going or not. Many opted not to go. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  20. Actually I had heard that a lot of the manufacturers are not going this year. The cost is going up and the attendance is going down. Its not the boggie it once was. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  21. Tom....shhhhhhhhhh!!!!! People are lazy enough as it is. But I am using our useless time for a canopy seminar geared towards newer jumpers, but all are welcome. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  22. Hey Steve. The Safire2 is a completely redisgned canopy from the original Safire. The Safire2 has very similar openings, very soft and consistant. The Glide is slightly improved. The toggle and riser pressure is lighter and the recovery arc is a bit shorter. The flare is also stronger (even stronger than the Spanish built Safires that people preferred.) They are both good canopies, but the Safire2 improved in every way. I have over 300 jumps on the original Safire and probably 250 on Safire2s, and I think the Safire2 really outshines it. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  23. Actually, if you want to get techincal, the Crossfire2 is a Spanish canopy. But now Im splitting hairs. And My biased opinion has that the xfire2 trounced the hurricane. Different class. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  24. I understand the turn isnt being done right, IF you have the altitude. In the case you dont, though, the more you turn will mean the less flare you have. Flat turns are a trade off between altitude and lift. Of course, the more aware we are, the more altitude we will have to work with, the more options we will have, the less likely we are to need flat turns as a last resort in the first place! But you are right, keep that flare power handy! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  25. It depends on how much speed you are working with. If you are only in full flight, the more you turn, the less available lift you will have left to flare with. but a PLF in an open area sure beats a canopy collision, impact with obsticle or hooking into the ground. When you add more speed (high performance landings), you can do quite and aggressive flat turn (carving). It all has to do with speed and lift. But most "flat turns" you see people refering to are not flat at all, just the slowest decent rate matched with the heading change you need to keep you out of trouble and out of a hole.
