Absolutely. But it's still far from concrete. Once you have the jumps and time, I dont think you will have a problem. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I've never seen anyone check signitures while getting ratings. Funny story (to me) about log books and signitures. I show up to Rantoul last year without a logbook. They said you can't come in. I said, "look right here, I'm on the vendor list". They said, "how can you not have a log book. There is no way for us to verify you are current or have the number of jumps you have." After talking with someone in charge of regestration, they let me in. I asked him what a log book actually tell them. I said "I can go out in the parking lot and write 1400 jumps on a piece of paper and have someone I know sign it, would that help? Does it really prove anything?" He said "no, we just need it for waivers to release us, put it actually proves nothing." I would love to keep and accurate log, but one I know I would never keep up and two, knowing that it seems like a horrible waste of paper. Never stopped me from getting a rating. I might as well jump in here to. I had problems figuring a way to keep the bodkins through the bag and getting the bag on the bodkins I had up through the back pad. I had the second set of pullup cords routed around the bodkin and got that ok, but just dont think I had the bulk right. I put about twice as much in the ears as I would in any other rig. It seemed like a really ridiculous way of putting a rig together to me. But then again this is only about packing them. I don't have to like it. I prefer buy.com myself. I have gotten to LaCie hard drives from them. 200 and 500 gig. The 500 just cost me $300, I think the 200 was $140. But The are firewire 800. I have a mac. You can usually get usb 2.0 for pretty cheap online if you have a pc. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I always pick up any money I see. Its not about the money. I believe the universe provides everything we need. A penny can be followed by a great job offer or a great deal. Ignoring the penny is telling the univese that you arent listening or watching. At least to me. But I am mighty weird Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

What about the failure characteristics of ZP vs F1-11? I have been told that F1-11 will rip and stop while ZP will fail completely. I have not seen many blow outs of ZP that havent gone nose to tail. I havent seen any f1-11 blow outs, but I have been told they stay contained. I know the ZP blow outs I have seen had many jumps but is it worth the added bulk to say it will last longer? How does a reserve with 40 packs on it compare to a new one in flight? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Wow, I hadn't even gotten past my furry friends on the cover to notice! What, do you have secret government connections? How did you become so influential? So, flex your muscles, who shot JFK, and was the moon landing a fake? Who is Kofka? TELL ME!! I want answers!! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

This is also why some people are opposed to ZP ever being used on a reserve. I have taken reserves out after being packed MUCH longer and lever had this effect. It is very common for ZP though. It usually takes about 8+ months but there you have it. It would have worked eventually. Its also why I tell people a main repack is very important after a long layoff. I use the 120 day refference at a lot of reserve repacks to sell a main one also. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Double and triple check the original measurements. Find out why the rig does not fit. Have someone at a reputable gear store measure you. I say this because I have seen manufacturers try to lengthen the laterals when the correct action was to lengthen the yoke (make a new rig). Before anything is started find out what the rig should be first. If it should be a larger yoke size and the fault is with the manufacturer, demand a new rig. If the fault is with the person you ordered it from, then you haqe to work it out with them. This is not directed at RWS. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I just finished a 2 hour (not all one movie) project with FCE on my PB 1.5ghz. If you are going to be doing any editing on yours the best investment you can make is memory. I got 2 gigs from Other World Computing and its awesome. I can render in FCE and run tons of other programs. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I sewed on a small piece of 3/4 binding tape to the yoke of my rig and got one of the tent tie down balls and tied it with the knot inside the ball. I loop on a big rubberband and wrap that around the slider. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Is it "funny" to push somebody out of the door?
johnny1488 replied to The111's topic in Safety and Training
Wow, you are amazing. I was refering to jumping over cloud cover. You do a jump with me where you can't see the ground and show me how to spot, and I'll buy your jump! You will also read in my post that I said you have to clear your airspace, and no one should get out of a door without looking. But you can't look at the ground if you can't see it. You are incredible. You can pick the things you want to gripe on but never actually read the post. I'm glad your done. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -

johnny1488 replied to The111's topic in Safety and Training
When do I say you should get out over clouds. Everyone knows its illegal. But I'm pretty sure everyone has done it (and known they were going to) at one time or another. I said if you know you are going to be over clouds and you don't want to jump, get out of the way. These people that I used as examples got out over the clouds, but just waited and waited and waited for a whole tht was obvious would never come. And it'sn not right to make extreme generalizations. I usually try to organize with everyone on the load prior to anything like this happening. We are all adults and no one needs to be yelled at. And you're right, no one should jump out blind, regardless of cover, but its pretty easy to know whether or not you are going to exit the plane. You can't spot if you can't see the ground. Well when you are jumping blind, however wrong, what is looking at a solid layer of cloud going to accomplish? The pilot is spotting with a GPS. You either trust it or you dont. There is no need for that decission to be made while burning usuable jump run. And what introspection do I need? I am refering to incidents that I have been witness to, not theoretical situations and what might happen. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -

Well when you know you are going to be going through a cloud and the cover is solid, you know that before you open the door. If you don't want to get out, move. If you do, go. It's wrong, but it happens. I have no problem with someone not getting out. But dont sit in the door like you didn't know you were going to be staring at clouds. Wow scooter, when I am talking about the people at the ranch (did I say it wasn't a club?) on teams who wait in the door, what makes you think I am talking about you? The last people I would question about canopy control is the sportsman. The people who wait in the door who hose the load arent spotting, they are hosing. And when there are clouds, what are they looking for? A giant hole to appear out of no where? I never said anything about the club, and I dont know why do you say no one wants to jump at the ranch, it's you who hasn't been there. I have a copy of the club DVD waiting for you when you want one. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -

I really thought the comment made about fewer and fewer reasonably sized canopies are becomeing harder to find was a joke. There are more canopy choices than ever. Icarus, PD, Aer0dyne, PA, the list goes on and on, and all with sizes up to and exceeding 230 sq feet. I think the message should focus more on personal responsibility rather than seeking someone to teach you. But our safety day isnt for 2 weeks so I will see how it goes and what our S+TAs think about it. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
