In eloy this year, I saw a dude who lost his rental car keys and had to pay like $600 to get a new set. I also saw someone lose about $80 last year. I try not to have too much in my pockets when I jump. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I've got probably 800 jumps on monkey fists I got from Skycat (kelli) and the have held up great. Not sure what the core is on hers. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

The way I have checked lines in the past is to spread them and look inside. If the inside of the line is still the original tan/wheat color, they are probably still good. If the inside of the line is is grey, its probably time to get a line set. Know that the brake lines are going to wear faster, but replacing just the brake lines is pretty easy. I believe tuck tabs are a major cause of off heading on sub terminal deployments. I have only seen one rig that had riser covers effect a terminal canopy opening, and i believe that manufacturer took steps to change the design. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Those are also 2 totally different canopies. The Safire is a mid range 9 cell while the Nitron is a fully elliptical high performance one, which I now see you mentioned. Until you reach the upper part of the canopies capabilities, I dont think the lines make as huge a difference in overall performance as many people think. Well Im not sure about all that but there is always Base jumping! And it might not justify it, but there is no way to experience nature than to view her from 13k. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I want to know what route you are taking Pete that you can get there in an hour! Or maybe I can just go along for the ride![:P Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

i have a thought that speed flyers are going to be getting hurt a lot pretty soon. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

The problem is that a Tandem is not a normal skydive. On tandem RW you can do it safely, docking from the right and then around. What if the student deployed while someone is hanging? What if, what if , what if. By minimizing the risk, you make the jump "safer". And I dont think she can really comprehend the risk. She knows skydiving is dangerous. I dont think she knows that tandem hybrids are more dangerous than tandew RW or a regular tandem. Nothing happened and thats cool. But lets not get into the "this is the future of skydiving" rants. Anything that endangers students endangers skydiving as a whole. We don't need that kind of publicity. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I havent been around ten years but have seen some OLD home made soft links on gear floating around the DZ. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Both the Safire2 and the Crossfire2 have very smooth consistant openings. If you are looking to go with a 7 cell the Omni from Icarus also has very nice openings. Many canopies now a days have nice opengins so it is more about what kind of canopy flight the jumper wants. The Safire2 is a lightly elliptical (not aggressive) 9 cell canopy designed for beginner jumpers or experienced jumpers who do not want an aggressive flight. The Crossfire2 is a fully elliptical (more aggressive) 9 cell that dives more and builds more speed and has more overall performance. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Why not do it with an expierienced jumper if it is just for the pic? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I am saying that when YOU strap a non skydiver to YOUR body and YOU are soley responsible for their life, YOU might think a little differently about increasing the danger on a jump that they would probably never know the difference about. If this were a student in these pics, I'm sure the jump was more for the other jumpers than the student. Do whatever you want whenever you want when jumping. I am all for the most stupid shit you can think of. But leave first jump students out of it. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Thats what I figured. No gremlins or boogiemen here! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

True, the problem is solved. But how easy is it to happen, when the rigger is aware that it can happen? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

So are you saying you believe the lock to be caused by the cap pushing againts the stiffeners or the loop getting locked in the grommets? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

How do they judge it in the speed events? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Thats why I hope you never become a TI. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Which keeps in turn with why I suggested keeping swoopers in the 5 ft course. To swoop flat and level, you have to work within the limitations of the wing. Which is why each canopy has its optimal loading. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Stiletto vs Crossfire2 vs. Katana

I'm hardly willing to go to the DZ in this weather. But I am hoping for spring. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -

Lets go swoop that pond. Give me your Katana and I'll start my 180 from 18,000'!! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -
The more kinetic energy you have (weight) the further you will be able to "fly" And with the increased stall speed of a heavily loaded wing, popping up allows you to go as far as you can. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I'm just saying that I never had the riser build to the point that I couldnt hold it down. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -
If you add more weight, than you cant exactly expect to do the same thing and get the same result. Thats like saying you can double your wingloading and turn at the same altitude. Stop your turn higher and start the plane out earlier, and I'll bet you can swoop straight and level. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Letting up abruptly can throw the suspended weight out in front of the canopy causing an increase in AOA. Being smoothe can stop this. But a 9 cell and its trim is different than most cross braced canopies. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
