Things every newbie sould know? Please help a bit.
johnny1488 replied to autoset's topic in Gear and Rigging
I'll go toe to toe to you about this, but thats for another place. As far as what a newbie should know, make friends with some expeirienced jumpers. Talk to people when you think of trying something new. Use the proper gear for what you are doing. (ie freeflying) Take an intrest in canopy control. Make it part of every skydive to learn and or practice something new. Learn cool phrases like : It's better to be on the ground, wishing you were in the air, than it is to be in the air, wishing you were on the ground. and Better a long walk than a short ambulance ride. You could probably talk to the manufacturer! Or you could say what container you are looking to order and some info could be derived from that. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

convincing the parents
johnny1488 replied to IcarusNeededAAD's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Forget skydiving, and start researching something called "death camp". That should be were you focus your attention. Dont let your parents stop you from doing what you want. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -
I think that might be it, but its been a while. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

A friend showed me a "version" number on the warning tag on his two velos once. Said he was told by PD about it. Don't own any PD mains, so I can't check. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

The "advantageous" placement of the main closing loop also keeps the main pic cover from closing as well as the infinity. I used to think the inside placement was better, but after seeing the new infinitys, having the loop on the bottom flap makes for a much more secure main flap. But yes, you can put a much smaller canopy in a javy and have good pin tension. But the main flap could very well be open during your jump in such a configuration. Wow when i want to delete a song, i delete it. I dont have to rewrite the whole iPod. Funny. But I also use apple computers, so my iPod works flawlessly. The customer support is phenominal. I am an apple snob now and would never look anywhere else for devices like these. I love turning people on to apple products. They have not been disappointed yet. After comparing the javelin and infinity in another post, I thought about what i like about my infinity. For those infinity owners out there. Is there anything about the infinity you would change, or are you like me? Do you think the infinity is the single best rig on the market? I think the infinity has hit every point. I would like to hear what people think is better on other rigs. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

i can keep mine closed. That said I think the New Infinity main flap is far superior to the javelin. Partly due to the fact that they have the closing loop on the bottom flap. The Infinity is the most secure closing flap of any rig on the market right now, bar none. Their harness rocks and overall is an amazing rig. Best on the market in my opinion. The main flap doesnt open up if the main is packed properly. The reserve p/c material doesnt work its way out if packed properly. The main complaint I have about my Javy is the hip articulation. The location of the hip ring on javys (as well as vectors) is useless. The new location of the ring on Infinities (same as mirage) is the proper place to articulate the harness if you dont want herness flex and kinking. I have a new Infinity also and am much happier with that. It is a much cleaner rig. Also more comfortable with Kelly's new cut in system. Very trick. Not true. Jyro designs for New Zealand Aerosports. The last canopies he has designed was the VX. The JVX is changes made to that planform. Cimsa (Icarus Canopies) Has designed the Crossfire2 Safire2 Omni, Reserve, Neos, Unnamed 11 cell prototype. As well as other non released canopies. Icarus will always be on the forefront of cutting edge canopy design. The designers at Icarus Canopies are top notch. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Anyone else wonerding why big john mccarthy didnt ref this one? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Some of the original crossfires had services bulletins pertaining to them. None of them were recalled. And a reline done in accordance with the service bulletin will take care of the problem. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

No one said they were good at writing. But I am sure they could make fines stick with interpretation if they wanted to. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -

Im not sure about this, I cant find my SIM and dont feel like checking online. I figure if 65 says its how the rig has to be packed, and 105 says the rig has to be packed properly, properly to me means the way 65 says. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -

I have been to dzs that dont check the seal. They only want to see the card. Pretty fucked up in my opinion. It's the pilots ass. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -

Removing, nothing. Replacing, with my imprinted seal. They would have to order my die and want to fuck both me and you. Not saying it cant happen, but i seriously doubt it. If the seal is scratched and not pressed, it aint mine. Check the seal as part of the gear check. I do. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -

All i meant is the seal. I am unaware of the sealing procedures in all other countries except the UK, where i thought it is forbidden. Sealed rig means the pack job has stayed closed. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -
Not to insult you, but are you sure you are pitching at 3.5, or waving at 3.5. I have had plenty of people chew up 500 feet or more from wave to actual pc release. That is were the open chould be guaged from. The canopy is gonna snivel up to 1000 feet. Its the design of the canopy. But a smaller slider will probably speed things up. I would talk to PD though. You could see this on a racer and I think on a tear drop and reflex. The key being the pop top with the pin on the backpad. Otherwise the cutter is hidden inside the reserve tray. This should not be a concern to jumpers here in the US. If the rig is sealed, and you trust your rigger, take care of the outside, we'll take care of the inside. Once I hand a packed rig to someone, i expect them to feel confident in the work, and worry only about keeping the rig up to snuff. Not worrying about checking the inside.
