I use the pilotchut material to build up the side flaps to give the top flap a place to sit. You also have to get the pc seated way down in there. Use the foot on the cap trick. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

X-fire2 prefered wingloading?
johnny1488 replied to AggieDave's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I have a bunch of jumps on a 119 loaded at 2.0 and I loved it. At first I thought it was a bit too small, but it just takes a bit longer to find the sweet spot. I jumped a 109 loaded a bit over 2.1 and it was too small. The ideal wingloading for performance is between 1.8 and 2.0. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -
Difference between Icarus X-fire and x-fire 2
johnny1488 replied to hudsonderek's topic in Gear and Rigging
The crossfire2 is a completely different canopy from the 1. The airfoil was changed along with line configuration (attachments and trim). It sounds as if someone is trying to pawn off a relined 1 as a 2, and it is not, they are two different canopies. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -
Thats, cool. Between vector and strong, I can see it being preference. I would love to discuss with anyone who would pick strong over a sigma. And I have a mac. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

What would you choose between Sigma and strong? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Are you serious? An industry as a whole? There are far more accounts of low cutaways and reserve deployents than rsls causing problems. And as far as tandems go, what is your thoughts of the crosskeys double fatality last year. Had the rsl been connected you think that would have made a difference? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
-
Is it safe to tell instructors to disconnect the rsl because of the possibility of riser breakage instead of designing something better? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

There is no debate when the Sigma is brought into the mix. Sigma is the best tandem system out there, period. I have a rating for a vector that I have never used and will never get a strong rating as long as they have the rig they do. Don't know if this is a PA, but Strong is crap. sorry, misread your post, though you put over 175. Doh. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

is a good tip worth overloading a reserve? I try to think of worst case scenerios before I choose to jumo with someone. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

It doesnt matter if its muscle or cheeseburgers, weight is weight. Its up to the dz and the instructor, but I wont go over the 500lb limit. I have seen smaller instructors take really big guys, close to 300lbs. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Check out Kirk at Paraconcepts system. I just got one for my Neos 104 and it is really nice. He has new fully machined rings and his slider geomotry is second to none. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Can't decide on Katana(135) or Crossfire(139)
johnny1488 replied to skycam888's topic in Gear and Rigging
Biased opinion to follow: You can't beat the xfire2 openings. I have found the Katana openings to be wild at times. I believe the Xfire2 to have a much better overall range. You will get back from longer spots. I personally think the Katana is too steep, I dont like the light front riser pressure (too light). Fly them both. Icarus Canopies in the US deals with a network of dealers. They do not sell directly to the public. I have never dealt with NZ aerosports, but in America, you get your Icarus Canopy from an Icarus Dealer. Icaru dealers get the canopies from the factory in Spain. There is no difference in time by trying to go directly to Spain. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Same reason I wear one when I skydive, to protect my head. It's better than nothing. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I've found that the guys at my dz that jump them (I jump Icarus) start getting tension knots when the line sets start getting old. And Im pretty sure UPT would suggest flat packing. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Yeah, TJs shit from Keen and Able on the 11 cell is pretty sick. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -
everything is stock, and yes it has been the only harder opening I have felt. And I do demos at events for Icarus, as well as PR during events such as the symposium. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

when I started on the Neos 104 at 2.35, I thought it was too high, but now with more time on it, I think it flies super well and shuts down nice too. Starting probably where the xfire2 drops off1.9-2.0. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

As for the speeds, I dont have much input on a lightly loaded Neos as I load mine up pretty good. As for the openings, I have never had a hard one after a freefly, rw or tracking jump. The only brisk one I have felt was at terminal at about 12k. I am also a neat packer, but do nothing to the nose, slider or otherwise, just a straight neat packjob. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Ohh I'll share as much in depth stuff as you want, just didnt want it to seem like a big sales pitch. If anyone has any questions about anything with the Neos, feel free to ask, I have been jumping mine for well over a year now and really like it. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
-
Let me preempt this by saying I have worked for Icarus Canopies in the past, so I am pretty biased. I think the Neos can hold its own with VXs and Velo's. It isn't designed to be in direct competition with those canopies. It will outperform your FX for sure. It opens better, dives more, turns faster and glides farther. I have a 104 Neos and VX and chose to jump my Neos all the time. I used it for pondswoop this year and did better than I have on my VX. If you want more indepth stuff, feel free to PM me. So Larry, you had Sonic "trained" on exactly what? What did he have to tell you about his gear? Or is that another "pro shop" you were at? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
