  1. QuoteNow after a long time, I am supposed to finish my AFF course, soon..Any RECOMENDATIONS.*** Ask your jm to watch you land, or get someone to film your landings. Make you corrections accordingly. Hey newb, fill in your profile!! From what i saw, your anticipating making contact with the ground more than anything else. Keep your eyes on the horizon, then just before you know your going to touch the ground, slide in with your feet and fly you canopy in a straight line. Your good to go..Forever! Good Luck, Yake Care, -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  2. I went to my Optomotrist and we decided to do the lens inplants. (No Biggie, Twilight Anathesia) Fixed it. I can now land my canopy without any RX glasses! All BS aside, i would make an apointment with my optomotrists. An early diagnosis will really save your ass. I mean your eyesight. Hey, what ever you do, God Speed, and all of the luck in the world, good luck with whichever path you choose. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  3. Waiting on your "A" license to use an entry level skyboard? That take a lot of competant jumpers a minimum of 500 jumps. First of all, welcome you and your cronies to the sport." I am 61, (look 41, dress 31, dance like 21, and act 12!) I have one of those addictive personalities, and try to always expand my experiences. Skydiving fits right into my life on a lot of levels; Your a type "A" personality all right, i don't know about your associates. The one remark you made is extremely perplexing to me: "SkyDiving fite right into my life get as much in as you can for as long as quick as possible"*** Brother, i do not at all envy your situation. Having saif that, please re think your obejrctives and motives for wanting to join out sport. Please make no premature judgement on me for me advising you the way i am. I've seen too many of my friends "Burn In & Bounce" for a lot of reasons. This reply is not intended to imply anything at all, save for one reason, "I Care About You" If pursuing this sport is what caotivets you, then by all means "Go For It) On the other hand, if you doing this for other resons, please do an honest self examanation of your sel right now.f. God Speed, Tale Care & Be safe. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  4. If they have the event, i will come. Hell Yeah! -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  5. This most certainly would have been good information in the original post. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  6. I agree, i trained there myself. Go ahead, but personally i hate pizza. Bring some 16 oz. New York Strips instead. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  7. Hmph! All i see is whining. Go to SpaceLand then, sit there for hours on end and see how much you get to jump. You'll be second to all tandems. So, what we've got here is a "Convience Factor" If you can't afford it, take up golf or shooting skype! -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  8. I grew up listening to George, he was hilarous. He will be missed, but not forgotten. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  9. There is a retaining net in the "Sand Trap" at the end of the track. Someone said these tracks were not designed for these speeds, that's correct. None of them were, they were built long before speeds were in the 220 MPH range. They had him on radar at 300+ on impact. I'm thinking he lost consiousness and kept the trhottle pinned down until impact. He had no visual at this point either. I didn't see this in the video, but could be. If you watch the video carefully, the left parachute deploys, but is in severe line twists, the right side parachute barely deploys, i guess you could call it a "Bag Lock" in either even, your brakes aren't going to do jack for you at those speeds. John Force made a pass last year, his car was at 325 MPH+ racing Kenny Berstein. Berstein hits one of the cones in the cenetr line of the track sending it into Force's lane and getting caught up in his rear tires shredding them in a million pieces. John deployed both parachutes instinctially, the two parachute along with the forward speed of the funny car literally rips the car in half sending John in his driver's capsule sliding doen the opposing lane with nothing between him and the pavement but what was left of his "cage" There was nothing left to protect him from losing some left fingers, and damage to his left lrgs, major road rash. He recoups, and races to this day mentoring his daughter Ashley. Who by the way can drive as good, or better than any of the guys out there right now, she's even beat the old man and the Pedrogon brothers, and that's a tall order. It's a damn shame, someone always has to get freaking killed before changes are made. Just like Earnhardt Sr. He gets killed, next thing ya know, we have safer barriers, HANS devices are made mandatory, no longer auxillary. The safer barriers have saved at least 10 lives since they've installed them. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  10. It would help a bunch if you would complete your profile, i don't understand all of these new jumpers coming here and asking questions without providing information. In any event, if your profile is correct, you don't have any business flying a canopy in those kinds of winds....period. An old story from just one of my many mistakes. The winds were 20 MPH - gusting 25 MPH on the ground. Tandems were grounded, students were grounded, i was a newly licensed "C" jumper taking the USPA Coaching Course. I thought "Hey!" I'm Billy Bas-Ass, i know WTF i'm doing here, i can handle this, no problem! A really good friend of mine, and co-jumper/mentor told me not to go up, i rebuffed her and said "It Ain't Nothing" We get the Otter loaded, get to altitude, bail at 13,500'. Great sky dive, having a small problem keeping a heading (Go Figure) I deploy at 2,500 AGL, in the saddle around 1,750' AGL. My first final approach is going great! I think to myself, see, i told you you could do it!! About this time i'm approx. 500' AGL, there are some really tall pine trees next to the swoop pond i've flown by a thousand times, BUT not in high winds. I got a very important lesson in "Rotors" that day. The freaking winds were at such a strong uddraft it lifted me 500' and moved me approx 300' to the east, next to some power lines. (Oh Joy!!) I'm thinking "Boy, your not the sharpest knife in the drawer" I was pretty disapointed in myself. I managed to safely land, but no where near i had intended to. To add insult to injury, i got a "Talking to" by the Upjumper who advised me not to go. I haven't done it since, i don't think i'll do it again. Or should i say "I know i won't do it again?" It's not how many jumps you can do today, it's how many can you live to do in the future. Jumping in high winds is nothing to brag about, or be proud of. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  11. This is indeed a tragic evenent in the NHRA. But, just like NasCar overcame Neil Bonnet, Davy Pearson, Adam Petty & Dale Sr, so shall the NHRA overcome this huge loss of Scott kalitta. God bless his family. Video Here WARNING: Not for the faint of heart. 1) The car hit the concrete retaining wall at 300 MPH. Did the flames and smoke overcome Scott? 2) The parachutes failed, one deployed, but not completely, the one on the passenger side never did deploy. 3) The NHRA has eluded to the fact that the parachutes were old, and Scott packed his own chutes. They may have a point here, those chutes do get dragged on the pavement a lot after the run. I think the cars should stop, and place the suspension lines, and chutes aroung the spoiler like they used to. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  12. I did it once, against the advice of a very experienced sky diver. She warned me at least three times not to jump. everything went fine until final when i landed next to the swoop pond at SDH and suddenly was picked up about 500' and moved to the power lines next to the road. I bout soiled myself, never again. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  13. I left that DZ years ago. And WOW you should keep your condescending thouhts to yourself. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  14. It would appear to be some type of insect bite. The thing you must be careful of is any sort of infection, staph infection would be the most common. I would seek medical attention at once. Good Luck. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  15. You really must leave your feelings at the house. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  16. I've been in the Oil industry for over 3 decsdes. My question is this: Where in the hell were you people when we were broke, losing our homes and jobless. Whay is it the only time anyone in the sec whines and cries about the price of oil only when it climbs signifiigantly? We have not built any new refineries in the lower 48 in over 4 decades. That's just plain iignorant. SUPPLY & DEMAND is what it boils down to. Bush has also wtopped refueling our SOR's. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  17. Since McClain is the "Class Clown" (Mr. I'll Stay In Iraq For another 100 years" is where he lost me. Hikkary is a freaking joke, and Obama won't make it one way or another. I've decided to write myself in on tha ballot. I encourage each and every one of you to do the same. Please don't miss your constituntional right by not votimg. I've heard a lot of folks say they are not going to vote. Exercise your right to vote, but remember the candidates that are offered does not have to affect you voting. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  18. Wow! 12 jumps and an assortment of canopies? To progress into jumping another canopy you must first master the one your flying. Since you new, i'm certain it's due to no fault of your own I've seen self induce line twists at below 1,000 AGL more than once. Each time i debriefed the student and explained that what happened to them was self induced and too low into the final landing sequence, I also advised them nothing fancy in the landing pattern. "Plan your dive, dive your plan!" Good Luck, Be Safe. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  19. She won that one i hate to say. Anytime you let someone win the "mental" challenge, they have won the mental battle as well, which is their objective from the get go. I would have consistantly simply ignored this person, end deal. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  20. Google Search? E-Bay? -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  21. That took some stones bro. It is my hope the rest of your training will continue to go your way. Communication, is the tool most underutilized concerning students. My dive instructors always told us the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. Good Luck, Take Care & Be Safe. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  22. I'm not sure hydrocarbons, or the lack thereof will have anything to do with th end of the world to the degree you mentioned, but i'm sure hydrocarbons will play some part in the demise of humanity, one way or another. The bible says the world will be destroyed the second time by fire, how much of the earth's surface burned up last year, and this year already? -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  23. That reminds me of a Seinfield episode. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  24. Amen Brother. We are at the end of our days. I've read Revelations Seven Times, it's all happening right before our eyes. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  25. My reply to you was courteous, and suggestive. I called no names, i made no slanderous attacks. As for the sport, you don't even want to know what all i've seen on the DZ. Ever pull off of a load because of someone you knew just put one out? Have you ever seen a TM-1 throw up on the way to altitude because of a really bad hang over, still UTI and was so jacked up he couldn't make the dive? Not all of us, but at least 1/4% from everything i've seen. The incident reporting does not even get close to the Real Truth 95% of the time. I think we all know, and accept that. I know i turn a "Blind Eye" to a lot of things. Hell, everybody does. Have you ever been in an aircraft flying hot loads while they were refueling? I have, when i seen what was going on i got the hell out of there until they were through refueling. Have you ever seen an ex military personal replace a starter on a Twin Otter that wasn't an A&P? I have. I could go on and on, but i won't. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
