I'm referring to championship trophies, not total wins in their careers. Jeff has 4 Cup Championship Trophies, Petty & Earnhardt Sr. have 7 Cup trophies each. Smoke has 2 Cup Championship trophies, and Johnson has 1 Championship trophy, and is the reigning Nextel Cup Champion from the 2006 season. Gordon is 1st in points right now. After this upcoming race, whomever is not in the top 35 in points has no chance to make the "Race For The Chase" that's what it's all about, the "Top Ten." In any event, Gordon is the only active NasCar driver that has a chance to tie the "King" & The "Intimidator," for 7 Cup Championships. If he does win a cup championship, it will be his first Nextel Cup, but his 5th overall championship. The other 4 trophies he has are Winston Cup Series, before the "Greenies" forced the change because they didn't want a cigarette brand associated with NasCar. Ain't that a kick in the head? Although this incident could qualify for a "bonehead" mistake, the positives outweigh the negatives. This jumper would have been in a bind were it not for someone being there with a razor knife. I think every jump ship should have a razor knife at the exit point that is affixed to the jump craft itself. It should also have a landyard on it (WE call them Spyders in my proffesion) in case it's dropped while in use so it can't get away and can be retrieved simply by pulling it back to the jump craft with the landyard itself. I'm sure this is going to go over big, but the absolutely worst canopy i ever owned was an Atair (Cobalt) 170^2. It's a sad day when deployment time is the scrariest part of your skydive. I put 35 jumps on it and sent it bck to be inspected, well they inspected it for a year, then offered to do an "H" mod on it, i declined. in the mean time i bought a HeatWave, one of the best canopies i've ever owned. This is my theory, J.P. combined with the weight of the luggage is that the plane stalled after take off and the inexperienced pilot didn't have the abilities it took to recover from it. I've heard rumors for years that Buddy Holly pulled a gun on the pilot and all kinds of crazy theories and none of them "Pass the smell test" I've seen the actual photos from the crash sight, the entity that published those photos exibited poor taste IMO. Holly's wife was pregnant with their child, which he never got to see as we all know.
