Yeah,me too--still have that feeling, except when I'm doing CRW. I guess the solution is to always be landing someone! "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

When I was just off student status I bought an unmarked Lightning from a dealer in Florida who advertised it as a "zp PD 218." I took it to terminal over 200 times. My openings were so hard that people would come out of the hanger to see what just happened. At a crew camp I was talking to Mike Lewis and when I described it to him he said, "That was my first Lightning!" I got real good at sitting up after pulling, and I had lots of freefalls when I didn't want to pull at all. Sold it to a CRW dog and bought a Spectre. It sniveled so long I almost cut it away on my first jump with it! Got to rate Lightning as number 1, even with a sport slider. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Check out the Bonehead Revolve, as previously mentioned. It's a bit claustrophobic, but you get used to it pretty quickly. Won't fog. VERY comfortable in the air--sit flying is a whole new (pleasant) experience. Won't work if you have a big nose; the visor is very close to your face. Also it is a little clumsy to get the visor up while wearing gloves. Of course, there is no problem landing with the visor down. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Have you read Elliot's "The Hollow Men"? Now that's spooky! It ends: This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends Not with a bang but a whimper. Another favorite, this one a Zen-like poem by Gary Snyder: Mid-August at Sourdough Mountain Lookout Down valley a smoke haze Three days heat after five days rain Pitch glows on the fir cones Across rocks and meadows Swarms of new flies. I cannot remember things I once read A few friends, but they are in cities. Drinking cold snow-water from a tin cup Looking down for miles Through high still air. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

Well, let's hear it! "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

That's the first poem I memorized, in the fourth grade. I had to recite it in front of the whole class. But it did get me interested in poetry. A great poem. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Another favorite, this one by Tennyson: The Eagle He clasps the crag with crooked hands; Close to the sun in lonely lands, Ringed with the azure world, he stands. The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls; He watches from his mountain walls, And like a thunderbolt he falls. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Time to revive this old post! I have many favorite poems. Here is Robert Frost's response to T.S. Elliot's "The Wasteland": The Onset Always the same, when on a fated night At last the gathered snow lets down as white As may be in dark woods, and with a song It shall not make again all winter long Of hissing on the yet uncovered ground, I almost stumble looking up and round, As one who overtaken by the end Gives up his errand, and lets death descend Upon him where he is, with nothing done To evil, no important triumph won, More than if life had never been begun. Yet all the precedent is on my side: I know that winter death has never tried The earth but it has failed: the snow may heap In long storms an undrifted four feet deep As measured against maple, birch and oak, It cannot check the peeper's silver croak; And I shall see the snow all go downhill In water of a slender April rill That flashes tail through last year's withered brake And dead weeds, like a disappearing snake. Nothing will be left of white but here a birch, And there a clump of houses with a church. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." You are supposed to sleep on your right side with your head facing north and your knees facing east and your feet facing west. I thought everyone knew that. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. The first jump course is a real confidence builder. It is normal to feel fear in the first several (or more) jumps. But the confidence you will get from the instructors and others in your class should help you to feel the fear and jump anyway. Good luck, and welcome to the best sport in the world! I sure hope Andrew Luck is the right guy. I'm going to watch every Broncos game I can. I would love to see Peyton win another ring. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

Life insurance before starting skydiving
Croc replied to MarcoP's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Did you mean to direct your comments to me or the OP? I used to sell life insurance, so I checked this out carefully. The accidental death policies do not exclude skydiving; my regular policy does. There is an ad for Mutual of Omaha at the top of this page. They sell them, but there are better ones. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy -

I have an accidental death policy. It excludes acts of war, insurrection, racing motor vehicles, flying a plane (but being a passenger is OK), and any death while committing a felony. No mention of skydiving. Had my agent look it over. These policies are cheap, about $30/mo. for 300K face, and require no medical or background check. Go online and you'll be insured next week. We grew blackberries for a few years. They did produce very large berries all summer, but you had to pick them just at the right time to get sweet ones. They sent out runners everywhere, and within three years they had taken over the garden. We ended up digging them up because we got tired of fighting them, and got tired of blackberries, too. Ours looked like the ones in the ad, some as big as the end of your thumb. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Thanks. That's what I was suspecting. Glad I jump in the good ole' USA! A friend of mine with a USPA C lived in England for a year and never made a single jump there. Instead she flew to Spain a few times and jumped there, explaining that it was "a pain in the ass" to jump in England. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. I have no horse in this race, but I'm curious. Why with 82 jumps and a B license do you need a coach? "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy
