  2. maybe you are saying I should become an AFF Instructor Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  3. also this note....you are on the right size to learn... at about your jumps I decided I needed a 150 and bought a pilot 150 because I needed something "swoopier" thatn my canopy to learn on which was a safire 1 179. I learned that it sucks to bounce when I didnt really have the eye for what I wanted to do... I then upsized to a 170 sabre 2 and learned a shitload about swooping on it which I then transfered to a 150 sabre 2 and then down to current canopies... what I will say is this....contact kim at pd and the wqebsite that I mentioned and demo a 169 safire2 and a 170 sabre 2 let me know via PM when you have them and I will come down there and pass on some knowledge that was passed on to me by some damn good teachers...I will even spend some time doing some high hop and pops with you should manifest and pilots agree to it.... 4. I know a guy named hippie bill (you may know him).... He flew a sabre 170 for a long time lading it about 1.1 ish and swooped it by basically flying his pattern using his front risers softly in a carving motion...he spent a long time doing this...then one day he decided at like 1800 jumps or so that he was ready to downsize to a 150 vengence after and only after he recieved word from PD that when he sent his canopy in for a new lineset that they had decided to do a wind test on it and it blew out 3 panels.... there is a lot to be learned from hippie bill.... But I will come check you out and talk to you about this in person...also talk to Robson...he is a safe and cautious instructor and has a great head on his shoulders for this stuff.... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  5. I will be visiting your dz this summer a few times as work is like 30 minutes on a good day from there... let me know what days you are usually around and we can chat in person... I will come to eat your entire landing area....and pack students who need rigs and get yelled at by instructors.... 8. Thus there is talk of canopy coach rating and people focusing more on it during student status Cheers Dave I thought there was one already? It's called "AFF instructor" that being said do you really think that enough time is spent on canopy JP? I guess we could just leave that one to aftermarket coaching being lets see one of the more important aspects of it I mean it does get us to the ground and keeps us from killing one another (and that being said we are all human and may just in fact just make mistakes every once in a while) but you get where I am going with that... 9. is the wife a canopy piloting coach? Just kidding Pack it neatly quarter the slider well and make sure it doesnt move when you are sticking it in the bag... Oh wait I do that on Nine cells too Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  10. this comes from opening your chest strap all the way and pulling your slider down/off... it allows the wing to spread out and almost seem to create two wings.. so instead of looking like one upside down shallow u it looks like two shallower upside down u's Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  11. I learned to swoop on a sabre2 170...I jumped the pilot and didnt like it for learning to swoop (and also broke my leg on it trying to get that positive recovery arc to work out) I hear wonders about the safire as well, so heres the trick...call PD ask for Kim Pathousje (Pronounced Pothouj and my spelling is probably wrong) Ask her for a 150 demo. Then hit up http://para-concepts.com/Store/product_info.php?cPath=30_33&products_id=70 and get the 149 demo that seems to be in stock and fly them both and see what you think Then ask around and see what else is out there. Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  12. well you got something over your head.. on some big way stuff that I have done to avoid the madness I have dumped really fucking low... and there were some stupid things that I have done like launching 5 ways from 4 grand and dumping turning and flaring... most importantly...you are both alright just try not to do it again Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  13. People asked me what changed this last season about mid season... Truth is I took Brians advanced course and spent the season implementing the info that he gave me... I cant say enough about it.... Brian are you working on anything fun as far as recommendations to USPA for coach rating for canopy piloting? Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  14. join brian...I know I sound like a broken record...but he did really change a lot in a positive way in my canopy piloting... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

  17. I skipped work to pack for the tandem record a while back after starting a new job...I had to berate the photographers not to take my picture.... I talked to my narcissists anonymous sponsor and he said it was a good step.... 18. I would love to participate in a canopy coach rating I think it is important and not enough time is spent teaching it... I do spend a lot of time with people trying to teach them what I have learned from a lot of wonderful people who sat with me and talked to me and taught me how to be safer (and the some that yelled at me and told me what I did wrong too sometimes It would be great if we focused on the canopy piloting aspect of skydiving with students a bit more I have said this a lot Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  19. I am so glad that the Ranch is my home drop zone right now Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  20. I say no... and hey JP your not an asshole you just play one on the internet.... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  21. yes always good to learn where they are...but they will be in a different place when you let your chest strap out and your slider is down.... if I hadnt just bought another canopy I would have had an extra set of 24inch risers laying around :-P Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  22. 1. find yourself a set of minirisers cheap on dropzone.com... 2. get slider locks sewn on them by competant rigger (or ball toggle on rig if you so desire... 3. pull down slider 4 smile like its going out of style seriously pulling down your slider will change everything and you will have a whole new set of stuff to learn...and it will be exciting I remember when I started pulling my slider down...jump 200 man it made all the difference... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  23. and I can fly my ass off in a sit and can fly on my head decent in two ways and even I am starting fresh on the back flying...its hella fun Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  24. ahhh I love those days when the clouds are at 5 grand and we get 10 dollar hop and pops all day long at the ranch.... those are some damn good days Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  25. if the guy made a right hand 270 he probably followed the pattern more than any of the 4 way teams at my home DZ do. for a right hand 270 you follow a left hand pattern to your initiation point. shows how much you actually know what you are talking about Bill. edited to add, I still dont like right hand 270s except for the fact that you are following a left hand pattern...I prefer right hands so I can see wtf is happenign in the pattern and make an informed decision as to what the fuck I am going to do to be safer for every one else around me (and most importantly me cause its all about me dont ya know ) Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
