  1. Its not so much the fact that 270s are bad its that the way we have to fly a pattern to fly a "safer" 270 is not left hand (or right hand at SDAZ's outlaying area.) See I personally fly a right hand pattern to a left hand 270... the reason for this is so that while I am finalizing my setup I am looking at the pattern from multiple views...the second reason for this is so that I dont turn blindly into a lower jumper (see first reason) Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  2. I have jumped at skydive AZ every year of my career so far... I did not this year due to the issues of people all trying to land in one small landing area.... I would love to see them extend the landing area, I think it woudl alleveate the current situations... 3. were these 270s right hand or left hand although with SDAZ's left and right hand pattern...it would matter really Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  4. what do you think of that mr moderator von boy....or will you continue to villify the swooper and not the event.... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  5. absolutely important....I always point it out to people although the funniest was of course the TI that forgot it the one time... On a side note...this was a nice incident to read...no deaths involved...thanks for posting dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  6. yeah you are not going to be able to hang on the rears on a traditionally braced canopy..on my Crossfire2 I pretty much get er pitched and let her fly with no input for a few seconds and then I add the toggles.... Once you have pitched that canopy to the right spot it will want to fly a that level with no inputs most likely... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  7. you know just going to throw this out there I just took a step back and really started workign on backflying... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  8. yeah sorry just responded to last poster not pointed at you at all... naughty naughty dave with his bad posting etiquette... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  9. personally I have cleared 7/8ths of the landing area with a well carved 180 at SDA (and I have the video to prove it...) I think that with all the traffic it is not a bad idea... either that or do the swoop park thing...shit why not i would land out there if it was a no fly zone for normal L pattern landers Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  10. If education is not the problem why are people swooping in traffic... In heavy traffic I usually swing my turn down to a 180 as the highest degree of turn and sometimes god forbid even abort down to a 90.... I tend to save the bigger turns to the hop and pop/high pulls due to some near misses I had early in my 270 turn days (and had some people yell at me so severely that I took it as a lesson and stopped going big in high traffic) Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  11. no I wouldnt but I keep hoping that they come out with their canopy coach rating.... THen we could actually spend more time with students on canopy or even build more canopy flyign into the license reqs I could see a change where people had to do more than just land in a set area a certain amount of times.... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  12. I did a high pull meester bill at perris and got the briefing of all briefings on where I was supposed to be until what altitude.... they were like dont even think of crossing this road until you are at like 2000 feet and I listened Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  13. yes but just like there are tools that are appropriate in certain situations is it not so bad to have multiple tools for different situations in this case... I would much prefer the range of canopy that I have in my Crossfire than that of my FX in a bigway situation... even though I could fly the FX in the bigway situation, I have much more range in the Crossfire... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  14. it sort of helps... Mine is bright neon yellow with red ribs... People still miss me sometimes Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  15. I will say this working a pattern, landing consistantly in the same area... Hitting gates (which is damn hard...but you know what... two summers ago... I was jumping a sabre2 170 freaking 170...I learned how to work out a pattern and get in the lane that we put up every weekend with little orange cones.... once I got it to the point that I could put it in the lanes on every skydive (traffic permitting) then I progrerssed to a 150.... lets just say that I put 50 jumps on the 150 and moved to the Crossfire 2 129... I asked my S&TA/Manager at the time if he thought it was a good idea, he said dave you hit the lane on every jump you do fuck yeah go for it... the point of all this is that I learned the accuracy part first and then went for the smaller wing, and let me tell you it has made all the difference. Hang tight brother, work the accuracy action either hit gates or go for peas...it will be a very important skill that you will thank all of us for hounding you with it... Here is a good thing for you to think about on my first pond swoop it was the ranch pond swooping meet V1 in august...I hit lane it was a 3 ft lane... Cheers and safe swoops brothers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

  17. Some would say that she was nine months old ish Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  18. yes in an open yet contained container... are you in markteting???? find what you are comfortable with as far as speed talk to your rigger and most of all be safe.... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  19. remember what we say all comes from a good place not us trying to shoot you down brother...cause truthfully thats what you are to us a borther and we would hate to see you down man... Be safe keep getting coaching...and ask lots of questions of the people near you...they are the ones who will know you best... and most of all have fun man... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  20. Maybe they're not advertising it because it's too expensive to share? well outside of central america it is ...I mean I know nothing of these things D http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  21. hmmmmmm do you think that the pro swoopers never tumbled ever? Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  22. Well what about the ones of us that lets see land accurately and on our feet do you still not give a crap abotu us...way to go moderator.... Dave I think it depends on your definition of the terms. For my purposes, I'll go with the requirements of the PRO Rating and I'd use that as a bare minimum. "Wait!", somebody yelled, "What about swoopers?" I don't actually give a crap. If you aren't landing the canopy on you feet and under control, then, in my mind, you aren't on your feet and under control. http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  23. So you watched me pound into the raft eh? http://www.laszloimage.com/RanchSwoop%2006/pages/IMG_8750.htm I know we are doing something fun canopy wise at the ranch this year...but much like the rest of the dropzone we are not quite sure what it is yet... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  24. Now I know you come to the ranch as I think we have met.... come up and get some video done, there are many good competent swoopers/people who are good teachers there... Ask around with some of the swoopers there someone will be willing to teach you a few things...shit we might even jump with ya.... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  25. for the Xaos series canopies they require "a minimum of 500 elliptical ram-air jumps experience within 15% of the manufacturer's Maximum" I think this is for a reason Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
