Google Earth Drop Zone Project -- Ideas and Discussion
MikeMcLean replied to quade's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Sucks that the Google Earth imagery isn't high-res for our area. It would be great to do a few data points (pond, main landing area, new hanger, etc.) but with that image, it just ain't gonna happen It wouldn't hurt you to think like a fucking serial killer every once in a while - just for the sake of prevention -

If you are base64 encoding just for the database, there isn't a real reason to. You can use a BLOB and store the binary encrypted value. Of course, if you need the base64 for other reasons, then you can store the base64 as a TEXT or a VARCHAR. If you know that every value is below a certain maximum size, use the appropriate VARCHAR size. The general rule of thumb is pick the smallest, most-specific column type for your data. If you are in a very, very tight DB disk space requirement and/or you know that you have many, many records and only a few will have actual data for the encrypted data then there are other considerations. These, most likely, don't apply -- but if they do and you want to ask, go ahead. This post is getting too geeky already

From: "Heratio DeLacroix" (address classified) Dear Sir. Your contact information was referred to me by one of my trusted contacts, whose name I am not at liberty to compromize. I would like to approach you with reguards to a profitable Business Proposal, reguarding the transfer of TWENTY ($20) U.S. Dollars into your Bank Account. For reasons I am sure you will appreciate, I ask that you keep this commucation confidential, and avoid it falling into the hands of any agents of the Angolan Intelligence Service that may be operating in Your area. My name is Heratio DeLacroix, and I am the Loyal Servant of General Chuichui Mandini, the recently Assassinated Leader of the Freedom Fighters of Angola. If you have been following the events in my country over the last few years, you will remember the big scandal that took place when General Mandini was brutally gunned down in front of his vacation house, just outside of the capital. You see, my Master had a lot of enemies , even among the Opposition, who envied his great secret fortune. It was they who removed him in the hope to gain access to the money accumulated over his long career as a Freedom Fighter. Fortunately, there was too much scandal and media coverage in the aftermath of General Mandini's murder for them to move openly to claim his money. This gave me and a few trusted people who were still loyal to my Master, an opportunity to move the money into a secret account at the Second Central Bank of Angola. While we managed to do this without the Angolan Intelligence Service becoming aware of our activities, the money cannot remain in this account, because at the end of the tax year, all deposits and interest will be reported to the Taxation Bureau of Angola, where our enemies have informants in their pay. The only option available to us, is transfering the money to a trusted partner who is a foreign national and cannot be linked to General Chuichui Mandini in any way. As your name was brought to my attention by a very trusted contact in Angola's Foreign Office, I have been authorized by my partners to contact you with this Proposal. All that would be required of you is the use of your bank account to perform a transfer of TWENTY ($20) U.S. Dollars. Once the money has been deposited, one of General Mandini's other Loyal Servants will contact you, at which point you will release FIFTEEN DOLLARS ($15) of the amount into his custody. I am authorized by my Master's estate in Angola to offer you the remaining FIVE DOLLARS ($5) as a compensation for your services. Because the money would only need to be in your bank account for a few days, and your danger of being discovered by The Angolan Intelligence Service is minimal, we believe the commission of TWENTY FIVE PERCENT (25 %) to be more than generous. Once I have received Your consent and Bank Account number, I will be able to make a claim under Your name with The Angolan Trust Fund for the above sum. We have a friend on the Board Of Oversight in that organization who has assured me that the claim will be processed without raising any red flags, and the money will be released into Your Bank Account no later than within SEVEN (7) days from the time I receive your response. I am at your disposal to answer any questions you may have about this Transaction, so don't hesitate to contact me via telephone, at +1-555-555-6366 (Just ask for Heratio). I eagerly await your reply, though I must ask you to treat this matter with great secrecy, lest you betray me and my partners to the agents of Angolan Intelligence Service. Respectfully Yours, Heratio DeLacroix It wouldn't hurt you to think like a fucking serial killer every once in a while - just for the sake of prevention

I do, especially while travelling. You never know when you may need a repack and at a smaller DZ you may find a rigger who hasn't seen your particular gear before. It wouldn't hurt you to think like a fucking serial killer every once in a while - just for the sake of prevention -

Skydiving with me is the coolest thing you may ever do.
MikeMcLean replied to Deuce's topic in The Bonfire
Well, thank you! Not sure about the "good" RW part, but yes, I did my first jump at Byron and not only bought the beer that I owe, but did the beer run for the DZ. By the time Deuce was doing his cool cross country I had already done four jumps in the heat, running on NY time, after getting into my hotel room the night before at 3am (ny time). So, of course, being too far gone (tired, that is) to jump, I did the next best thing -- beer run. It was the least that I could do, given the kindness, welcome, and overall good vibes that I received during the day. Wish I could have done more. Thanks to everyone at Byron for a great day. P.S. good to learn that some dislikes are universal -
Yeah --- I know, but he said he wanted non-Tandem AFF. Hindshight tells me that I would have rather learned without the Tandem if I had taken the time to research training methods, etc. It wouldn't hurt you to think like a fucking serial killer every once in a while - just for the sake of prevention

Thanks for the info. The boogie idea sounds cool, but I don't know for just one day. Now I wish my schedule had let me get to CA earlier . It wouldn't hurt you to think like a fucking serial killer every once in a while - just for the sake of prevention

Hey I will be in San Francisco next Sunday with a free day for some jumping. Any thoughts, comments, recommendations, on these three choices? I have a co-worker who may want to do a Tandem, if that matters. I also plan on being lazy and using a packer, so availability of paid-packers does matter.
