  1. Actually, in any situation where there is a partnership or corporation, nobody goes out of business. So since this really only applies to personal assets.... Personal i.e., all the shit bill gates owns, not Microsoft itself. Or all the shit Dick Cheney owns, not halliburton itself. Or all the shit the Bushes own not Arbusto (oops, sorry, they're gone). So, people have a very simple way to keep there business from going under when they croak, form a partnership with your kids. However, if you want to give your kids a large sum of liquid assets, yeah, uncle Sam's gonna take a chunk. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  2. I dunno, you are pretty scary but I'm really just pretty damn lazy (what a good liberal I am) plus I forgot, what am I supposed to be posting sources regarding? Never go to a DZ strip show.
  3. Hmm, police, fire departments, national defense. If they happen to drive those Hummers they're using much more of our clean air. As Kallend pointed out, access to the government. Public Utilities, the air waves. Goodness the list goes on and on... Never go to a DZ strip show.
  4. OK, how bout 10 million? Anything for the "little" guy ya know... But, come on, is it really fair that Donald's just gonna be able to hand over all that shit to Ivanka, just on the principle "it's been taxed before". Yeah Yeah, everything's been taxed before. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  5. I might disagree with his use of that analogy... But what he was getting at is that the rich get a much larger benefit from the policies and practices of the government, and therefore, rightfully, should pay more. Excise (like gasoline) taxes are based on actual consumption of a good, the more you use it, the more tax you pay. I guarantee you a hummer causes more wear and tear to the highways than my little suzuki. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  6. I must have missed Jesus' Sermon entitled "Give unto Caesar what Caesar is due unless he comes knocking twice..." The only reason Republicans want to end estate taxes is to ensure that there will never be any social mobility in this country and that the children of the rich will indeed be this nation's permanent "noble class". I mean, come on, 1 million isn't enough of an exemption?? You really think that just because someone happened to be born to someone filthy stinking rich they shouldn't have to pay taxes on it when that money is handed to them? Never go to a DZ strip show.
  7. So basically what you're saying is that you don't mind paying for it as long as you're using it... Which is understandable and typical for a greedy republican , however, you know that as someone who is rich enough to employ others, you are already paying a lesser percentage of you income in social security taxes even though you will get just as much benefit from them (are you gonna turn it down when you get old enough and those checks start coming in?). And as for gasoline taxes, gimme a break, excise taxes are probably one of the "fairest" taxes around. And most gasoline taxes go directly to the upkeep of roads. And yes, the more you use the roads, or the bigger gas-guzzler you drive, the more maintenance you cause the roads to need. So, if you really have a problem with those gas taxes, buy yourself a prius (gas-electric hybrid), I'm sure you can afford it and hey, some states even offer a tax incentive for it. Note: not Tennessee, we give tax incentives for driving bigger less fuel efficient vehicles here. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  8. Yep, you guys are right, special status is wrong... Just like that special status that got Georgie boy into Yale... and Harvard... But until we stop basing school funding on property taxes (as it is in the vast majority of cases), alot of kids (mostly black) are getting a very raw deal. How would all you Pickering lovers feel about affirmative action based on socio-economic status? Never go to a DZ strip show.
  9. Aren't MOST democrats? aren't most of us what? 12? Never go to a DZ strip show.
  10. you leave out my proposals for those above 500K and dividends and estate in your analysis. plus you ignore the extreme simplification. Hell, most of the government spending cuts that you say would be necessary under my program could be offsets by the reduction in the IRS/IRS paperwork that would be necessary. Oh well, I was just shooting from the hip really, those numbers aren't firm. But if payroll taxes we cut, I'd say we'd see a lot more hiring. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  11. Oh crap I was hoping you had forgotten Hmm, beer... depends on George... George wins, same as I'm drinkin' now, Southpaw George loses, what I drank in the Clinton years, Red Stripe Never go to a DZ strip show.
  12. Actually, even though I was only 12 at the time, I really supported Gulf War I, even though at that time I was already a self-avowed Democrat. I think things like wars transcend party boundaries. I know plenty of good dems who think it was right to invade Iraq, I happen to disagree. I would have disagreed had Gore done it as well. I was however a wholehearted support of the notion of backing Iraqis opposed to Saddam. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  13. My thoughts on taxes... As I said before and I believe GM probably know this is true if he really employs that many people, payroll taxes make it harder to make new hires than "excessive" income taxes do anyday... So here's my plan... Slash payroll taxes by say 75% off their current levels. Exempt the 1st 30K of anyone's income from taxation. Add 20K for any dependent. After 30K to 75K, 10% 75K-100K 15% 100-300K 25% 300K-500K 30% 500K-1mil 35% >1mil 40% No deductions, no forensic CPAs Oh yeah, dividends: income from div < 10K, 0% >10K 40% Estate: < 1 mil, 0% >1 mil, 50% Never go to a DZ strip show.
  14. Ahh another flat-taxer... There is one real big reason that the rich should hold a greater share of the tax burden... They have so much more to lose.... If they don't like paying taxes, they can move (and by move I don't mean incorporate offshore) Never go to a DZ strip show.
  15. Like no, he's done all he can to ruin the environment (hey, at least with all the trees his administration wants cut down there will be plenty of great "outs") Never go to a DZ strip show.
  16. And, as far as the "investor" class is concerned, check out this article: Never go to a DZ strip show.
  17. Yes yes, we all know that greater employment leads to greater taxe revenues, although, as a business owner, you probably know that most of the increasd taxes are what? Payroll taxes. Hmm, how much did we cut those? LUST, like "liberating" Iraq huh? Now there's a utopian idea if I ever heard of one. The only way Iraq ever becomes stable is if it's broken into several pieces, 1 for Kurds, 1 for shiites, 1 for sunnis, etc. etc.. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  18. Note: bold added by me Now we know why Georgie wants to go to mars.... If there was life there, but now it's gone, they must of left remains, which may have turned into oil. It's all becoming very clear now. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  19. I really liked what Howard Dean said about the prez's Mars initiative: "the President wants to go to Mars, I think that's a great idea, he should be the first to go." Never go to a DZ strip show.
  20. Funny, I'm an economics major, and yes, you're right, a basic course in economics will teach you that. A more advanced course in economics will teach you that tax policy is about the least effective way to influence the economy and that deficits may just cause a little thing called "crowding out". 21. Nor do the Bush Hating Lefties: GALLUP NEWS SERVICE Despite the "jobless" nature of the current economic recovery, the first CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll of 2004, conducted Jan. 2-5, shows consumer optimism continuing to surge upward: Consumer perceptions of the current economy are at their highest point in more than two years; Consumer expectations for the future are at a four-year high; and Nearly three out of four consumers say they are somewhat or very optimistic about the economy. I guess that explains the 1000 new jobs created in the previous month Never go to a DZ strip show.
