  1. Fortunately no one was videoing that one. My JM for L-6 told me on the ride up that he thought the laughing was a girl on the observation deck and that he thought "well now, that's cruel for her to laugh after he fell like that" Never go to a DZ strip show.
  2. Ashman... because the field had been burned... I was covered in ashes Yeah, according to my JM, when I master the control of it, I should have excellent range... I have a fairly low loading of my human wing so to speak. I kind of like the sound of it, like, "Ashman?" "Yeah, don't get burned." Never go to a DZ strip show.
  3. So, my JM thinks he's found a nickname for me. I'm not sure if it will stick, but the story goes... After hanging around the DZ all day yesterday hoping for the winds to calm down... 10-15, gusts to 25 mph, I headed back down this morning after a call to the FPO. Fortunately the extra days wait meant and extra $200 for me so that meant I'd get to do two jumps today! Mike said some guy from Michigan was coming in too so we'd probably start jumping about 12:00. I got there at 12:30 thinking I had missed the first load but I was wrong. After some debate and flip flops back and forth it was settled, this would be my first jump out of the Cessna, and my first no contact exit to boot. I assume from what I was told, that the ride to altitude took awhile, but it seemed to go by fairly fast to me until right before jump run someone farts. Gee thanks, fart in confined space... Finally, door's open and everyone else is out, Stewart signals and I begin to climb out. This was much more difficult than I initially thought it would be (Stewart informs me later that the pilot didn't let off the throttle a bit since we were in stiff uppers). OK, prop, up, down, arch. "Oh shit I'm falling!", I think to myself as I flail my legs as if to try and touch the bottom of a swimming pool. ARCH, ahhh... stable... the rest of freefall was fairly uneventful with three 360 deg turns and altitude checks to 5000. wave, reach, pull. Nothing happens, PULL, again nothing, pull, holy shit this isn't going well... PULL!!! Woohoo! I downsized this time, flying a 1:1 wingload now, everything's going fine but I don't have much time in my playground thanks to the hard pull so I spend most of that time getting back and ready for my left hand pattern. Downwind... Stewart comes on the radio but I have no clue what he's saying, I mean it's Charlie Brown teacher time for real. Something about a turn (which way??) was that stop turning, no? flare? no? Oh shit, here come the weeds and a 12 foot dropoff! PLF! "Wave your hand if you're ok!" "What?? you mean you can't here me laughing??!?" I wave. I'm covered in ash. They had burned the field the week before I think. "Hey Ashman." Level 6 was so much less eventful although loads of fun. No problems on the backflip, tracking kicks ass. Turns out I fall pretty damn slow, the pro-track averaged 106. No problems at pull time and a stand up landing. My fourth
  4. I really wouldn't touch this question with a ten foot pole. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  5. Teach the penny to arch! Never go to a DZ strip show.
  6. Shouldn't be allowed by whom? The money police GM, if you're quiet and run really quick, I'll tell em you went the other way. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  7. At the risk of implicating myself , I just have to add, what a post-whorish thing it is to do to post about post-whoring... Never go to a DZ strip show.
  8. I sure am glad you didn't let me forget that you're buying the first round. Sounds like you're better off than me anyway (I get my final paycheck from the miserable job I got laid off from today... planned expenditures: JUMP). I myself know some fairly rich people (not over $250mil though, although maybe some kids of those people), but I don't know many of them that are whining about their taxes being to high. Most of them that I know think it was pretty dumb that Bush cut taxes and would rather not have there grandchildren/great-granchildren burdened with a national debt. Oh well. I digress. 9. Imagine being one of the guys on the job. "Sir, is it just me, or do you also feel like you're back in college, sir?" "No, Private Pile, you pathetic son of a bitch, you never went to college!!" "Sir, must have been all of the beer I drank in high school, sir!" Never go to a DZ strip show.
  10. Did you notice how in most of those instances it seemed, at least to me, as if they felt like "oh shit, we better stand up and clap for this one, we don't want people thinking that we think we do need a 'permission slip'" But, like I said, defend ourselves from what? Really, we still haven't seen how Iraq was such a great threat to us... Never go to a DZ strip show.
  11. I'd say the reality is those statements were directed toward ignorant and, welll just ignorant "social conservatives" who, like Jerry Fallwell, think that if we don't outlaw things like homosexuality god will smite us all. It was a campaign speech after all. I think Shrub should have been required to pay the going rate for ad time out of the millions of donations he's gotten for his primary "run". Never go to a DZ strip show.
  12. I should have noted sarcasm in that so hot statement... but she does flash her boobies alot, boobies are nice Never go to a DZ strip show.
  13. i think we can all agree this is definitely a valid use of the armed forces Never go to a DZ strip show.
  14. But dude, she's so hot... Another reason why rich people just shouldn't be allowed to give their kids all their money, they often have very stupid children. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  15. Before we start worrying about enforcing the UN resolutions maybe we should worry about paying our DUES But seriously, the US, and a Republican administration, talking about enforcing UN resolutions is a joke. I for one am of the opinion that the only reason we went to the UN before going to Iraq is to delegitimize its role. Plus, you don't see us, nor do I think we should invade Israel although they regularly ignore UN mandates. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  16. And then there's the whole question of why they didn't tell us about this in the beginning... http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/01/10/oneill.bush/ http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/2003/01/27/news/local/5025024.htm Maybe you guys have heard about the "Project for the New American Century", these are the guys who basically lay out the foreign policy of the Bush administration. Here were their ideas for the middle east before we ever thought about a war on terror: http://www.newamericancentury.org/iraqmiddleeast2000-1997.htm So, hmm, why was it that Bush told us during his campaign that he would pursue a "humble foreign policy"? Why didn't he tell us that all the people he was going to hire wanted to invade Iraq sight unseen. Maybe because he thought that would lose him the election? Never go to a DZ strip show.
  17. I honestly start the post because I'm honestly interested in what people think, whether or not I agree with it. How could you possibly know my motivations for posting. AS I said before, I'd like to know what option you think is so glaringly obvious that I left out. (you can even PM it to me if you like). As for sources, see the one above in regards to my original post about showing you mine. And now for some more: About Iraq's Nuclear capabilities: http://www.washingtoninstitute.org/watch/Policywatch/policywatch1998/301.htm http://www.fas.org/news/iraq/2002/ciareport.htm So according to these, I think the concensus was, he may be working on them, he may not, we'd sure like to know. But Bush said he was buying uranium in Africa... http://washingtontimes.com/national/20030719-120154-5384r.htm http://abcnews.go.com/sections/world/US/uranium030714_timeline.html Just a start, damn, would someone please tell me how to do that clicky thing, it's been a while since i've written html. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  18. OK, by popular demand, this is long folks since I have to post the entire thing unless you folks have access to Lexis-Nexis. Here goes, in response to earlier talk of France selling "WMD" to Iraq: Never go to a DZ strip show.
  19. Geez Jim, gotta pull out the insults now. Hell, I was admitting to being lazy, but a TROLL?? I'll get around to it sometime, just didn't feel like it at the moment... Grr, you people are gonna drive me to research, yuck. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  20. I think the real difference between skydiving and most other things is that we actually have a very good assessment of the risks involved. On the other hand, how many people, whether it be getting in a car or on a rollercoaster think, "I've really got to be on my toes out there, otherwise I may die"? So, to wrap up here, skydiving is definitely risky, of course everything comes with risk, yes skydiving is more risky than other things. As Ron likes to point out, you can do everything right and you still might die. The same can and does apply to many things we involve ourselves in and yet somehow convince ourself that those things are safe. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  21. What were the stated objectives again? Rid Iraq of WMD? Depose of Saddam and his leadership? Well, if there had been WMD, surely we could have bombed those weapons sites, and we tried to bomb Saddam himself... Oh wait, was it that objective of building roads in Iraq? Or maybe "stabilizing" their oil fields? Ahh, I'm sick of it all mainly, maybe I'll get back into this after the state of DisUnion. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  22. I was really just pointing out that your arguments about putting people out of business by having an estate tax were erroneous. You're absolutely right, it's none of my business what people do with their dough and vice versa. Now Uncle Sam on the other hand. I think what it generally comes down to is you (not you specifically) either recognize that taxation is a "necessary evil" or you think it's "just plain evil". Those of you in the latter, buy yourself an Island and make do for yourselves there. Sorry if I get spun up Rehm, still hoping to buy you a beer someday. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  23. Yes, it is fair....it's his money. Under that ideology, no taxes should ever exist. That may be fair to you, but I think most would agree it's simply ludicrous. Take a course or two in public finance, then come talk to me. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  24. I agree, I honestly think it's a good thing (well maybe, could lead to an even more anti-US, Islamic extremist rule in Iraq) that Saddam is gone. But we were definitely lied to about the reasons (We impeach Clinton for lying about his "little missile" yet it's ok for Bush to lie about big ones). In spite of this, we could have used a variety of methods other than a 150K strong ground INVASION and OCCUPATION. What the hell are all those "smart bombs" for? Did we really have to invade? I didn't and don't think so. Never go to a DZ strip show.
  25. Why was it that Bush was able to land that cushie patrolling the skies of Texas gig during 'nam? Never go to a DZ strip show.
