YES YES... good point... a bronx tale is a fine movie... he also played the devoted father,, as a Young Vito Corleone in GF II... jmy

Robert DeNiro each character is different,,,, but there always seems to be that same,,, certain way that he delivers his work.... i loved Midnight Run, and Goodfellas. though i don't care as much for him,,,, in comedies... Analyze This... or the one with ben stiller.... meet the parents... he's better as a cop or a thief,,,,, than he is as a Dad. or a family man... IMHO jmy ps... The Score,, with edward norton and MARLON BRANDO... was a good flick too... My # 2 choice...Burt Lancaster.... great stuff.. from the time he played Robert Stroud, "the Birdman of Alcatraz" through The Gypsy Moths... a MUST see for all skydivers, and up to and including Doc, 'Moonlight ' Graham from Field of dreams..

less "dangerous" than it looks.... IMHO as long as the pin stays closed... that P C material is mostly a distraction and " looks bad"... however it seems to me,, ( disclaimer,, I'm not a rigger ) that it 's not gonna cause a reserve opening.. I had a Racer rig, which often had PC material sneaking out, from under the cap.... finally ditched the rigger who WAS packing it, and found someone who cared enough,, to properly tighten the cap, and to properly stuff that PC material Under it... still it should be adressed,, I have NEVER seen that on a javelin container.. though i suppose IF one tries,,, One could pull material out from under the cap... i'll be interested in reading other replies... jimmy

What is your signature sex move or position and...
jimmytavino replied to iluvtofly's topic in The Bonfire
well I ALWAYS Hum,, while I am vacuuming... and often vacuum... while I am humming... ( sidetrack).. as for the top five Coen Brothers movie characters.... well the Dude is ok.. But you MUST include... Every Damn character IN Oh Brother where art Thou? especially Pappy O'Daniel, Everett, Pete and Delmar,, ( well Looks like the depression has "flushed the chumps" ) not to mention, The Warvey Girls,,, the clerk at the Woolsworths, the Radio station owner who "founded " the soggy bottom boys.... and "baby face Nelson" not to mention, the blind prophet, who was pumping that railroad buggy,,,, "Jawn me my brothers... those of you who are NOW in chains,,, Jawn me"... " you gotta name?? grandpa??? " " I Have NO name".... NOW back to signature sex moves.... jimmy out... -
well THAT article absolutely HAS TO BE THE REASON for the start of the Womens' Liberation Movement!!!!!!!hahaha that's the funniest thing i ever saw.... and had to have been the basis for the Cleaver Family Dynamics.. June C .. " Ward, go easy on the Beaver" Ward,, " Now June,,,,I'LL make those decisions around here,,,, Now go make me a sammich" !!! attached herewith are pictures of what REALLY makes a good wife...... One who,, after 25 years of being with a dedicated skydiver, and with a fear of stepladders,, decides it's time to make a jump... with her husband.... It was an historic and significant gesture....

your mention of Strato-Star,,,,, caught my attention... Yes. things have changed, but for the better.. The ram air, has proven it's reliability, as both a main, AND a reserve.... Not sure if your strato star had the Old and crazy reefing system,,,,, ( Probably did ) ,,, but you likely were deploying it, from a " pins into cones" container, and a 3 or 4 pin ripcord... That gear worked OK... But today a hand deployed, sliderized square. of the proper size , is a fine choice, providing one takes care, and LEARNS how to safely fly it. Wing loading,,,,,, is a Numerical formula, which factors total size of the canopy , in square feet, against total suspended weight, ( you & your gear ) ....in pounds..... A 200 lb weight under a 100 square foot canopy is 2.0 wing loading, and a 200 pound weight under a 200 square foot canopy is a wing loading of 1.0..... the higher the wing loading, the more one must be attentive to toggle inputs, and speed in turns, and overall canopy responsiveness and 'twitchiness'.... Higher performance canopy pilots will jump with a higher wing loading, than would a student or novice jumper... at first, you likely should strive for a W. L. of near or possibly UNDER. 1.0 your experience with flat circulars, ( cheapos) and para commanders, will serve you well, since you should already have a good sense for spotting, and for proper toggle inputs, while under canopy.... There is a lot to be learned or re-learned, but that is part of the fun and challenge.. Adhere to the advice and teachings of your instructors and be happy that gear has evolved to the level it has... welcome back. jimmy

the cameraman was Kelvin Brundrett years and years ago.. rather early in the history of tandem.... an entanglement was sort of "new" and set procedures, had never been considered or discussed, as we do, today... That was a terrible loss. and having met Kelvin, i really feel like his instincts simply kicked in, and he was doing his best to save steve, and the student... their tragedy became a lesson for others, as it sparked the discussion about JUST what a camera person should or should NOT do... best approach,,, good gear checks,, diligent packing, and care when moving around in an aircraft, and during climbout... BSBD to that trio... jt

i always carry a pair of baby vise grips in my pocket,,, they open up to 3/4 inch , and are handy as hell. also have carried a victorinox knife, since forever,,, as for your angle stop, better to use an open end wrench,,, cause when you bite down on the part, with the vise grips,,, that tool can crush a compression fitting,,, making it alllll the MORE difficult to turn... good luck jmt

WHere????? is the container??? were canopies deployed differently then??? i.e. holding the material in your arms, and then "tossing it out, " upon exit???? OR was that ground picture, strictly for "research & development " purposes??

no no no it wasn't shady.. this was at a branch of a LOCAL long time camera store, which now has 3 or 4 outlets in the area.. Used to be " Rowe Photo" but It's now called ROWE Video & Audio... true enough some of the staff is fresh off the street, with that sorta "circuit city salesman" approach,,, but most of the staff are long time photography experts. who cater to pros and novices alike. i happen to be in rochester NY, home of Kodak.. and R. I. T. and cameras, film and now digital,,, are taken very seriously here...

roger that. i was surprised that he so flippantly used the term. "discontinued"...... and maybe he's a bit ahead of things, there.... but could be... he was pressing for a sale... he showed me an "original" pricing label of 799.00 and then the current pricing of 599... i had mentioned to him that i was happy with my sony HC 3 , and wasn't shopping at all.., was just being "knowsey".... I had gone there to get a flex cable to go between my Nikon D70s and an SB 800..... and so, that is my current project... as for the CX100... just further evidence that camcorder technology and innovation,, just keep on happening!!!.. Interesting point about a "set number of units" being built, and then moving on to the next thing in the R & D pipeline.... it would be good to KNOW just How many units of each of these models , ARE being produced,, where they are going, and therefore, HOW long they 'll be available, and then just what their relative "rarity factor", might be... at current pricing, could be sensible to buy a couple.. jt

does the cx 100 HAVE a remote ??? or NO??? I saw one at a camera shop on thursday.... CANNOT believe how small it is... the clerk said that the cx100 is now or else soon to be discontinued... since i have not read this ENTIRE thread... it THAT the case??? thanks. jmy

DZO gives everything away on Craigslist
jimmytavino replied to PhreeZone's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
so then an airport which was " a bunch of blackberries and a ditch " becomes a dropzone and thanks to the energy of that endeavor the airport reawakens... good. the Dz uses state land for the jumpers and all is well. good. -
oops my bad.......didn't properly read the entire post. jt

How to get velcro to stick to carbon fiber?
jimmytavino replied to SStewart's topic in Photography and Video
Remove all cameras from the helmet and keep them FAR away from any "dust" that could result from sanding... IF there is any chance of loosening up carbon fiber residue... THAT stuff is bad Ju-Ju for cameras.. be sure to fully wipe away Any remnants on or around, both the inside and outside of the helmet.. j -

right Unemployment benefits are Insurance for those who have a lost a job, FOR which premiums were being paid workers compensation is different, though it too is something of large pool of money. It to help anyone who is Legitimately !!! injured, while at work... As someone who has been paying both premiums for decades,,,, and never seeing ANY return for it, It does BUG me, when someone fakes an injury, or over exaggerates an injury,, just in order "to collect".... and these idiotic HUGE workers comp settlements , really irk me... except in true cases of workplace tragedies.. as for drug tests.... not my call... jmy
-
Piper could be wrong, when he states, that "people who have paid into the system"...... fact is.. ( around here at least. ) Unemployment Insurance premiums are paid by the Employer.. not the employee... and it's Not like social security... it's not set aside somewhere" in the name" of any individual employee... Fact is... Most of the $$$$ probably goes for adminitration BS, and other expenses of running such a system..... when those funds ARE eventually made available to those who have lost a job... It could be wise to make sure that the $$$$ isn't being SPENT on drugs of ANY type... especially alcohol and tobacco... Testing each person, would be going a bit overboard, however... IMHO... Random testing is akin to 'selective enforcement' of say, traffic laws, or akin to "profiling",,,,, neither of which , is very fair... jmy

My brother showed me that tool back last fall... he had just gotten one, and believe it or not.. those blades and attachments are very strong and durable.. He spoke highly of it , saying it took the place of a Jig saw or sawzall. for lots of rework tasks. The tool works on the basis of vibration/reciprocation..and is much easier to control "freehand", than many other power tools... It can cut lots of materials, and reach into lots of tight spots. can be used for cutting openings for outlet or switch boxes. seems very useful for retrofit work, and remodeling. the offset blade attachments allow you to get right into corners, and it cuts, very powerfully.... he did say it was pricey but found it very useful. I only just recently started to see commercials about it. It is quite heavy in weight, and rather well built... and He did give it a favorable critique. jmy
