  1. Huge??? nahhhh not at all. what IS huge is your sense of humor,,, and as long as you pack that.... you'll be fine.. remember,,, you're going to a DZ where "casual" equals comfortable.... and a good attitude trumps a fancy wardrobe 'most of the time'... you'll look beautiful, no matter what you wear,,, ( or don't wear ) pack for efficiency and comfort... jmy
  2. ran into Jerry Bird this past january he seemed happy and well. talked proudly about his sons... and about times from the past...
  3. HDR-HC3 is a solid choice...easy tape loading, accessible ports for firewire, hdmi out, usb port, lanc port, and memory stick capability for stills... compact and durable if you are not doing all your editing on a computer ( as is my situation ) then the HC -3 works fine. Give some thought to the HDR CX100 and CX 105,,, see the extensive thread which discusses these models... depending on prices, they could be a better choice,, of you have the computer to work along side the video camera... skydive safely jmy a 3914 nscr 1817 POPS 3935
  4. that guy is an EXcellent ventriloquist,, thanks for the clip. as for energy in a peanut... stick one, with a sewing needle or a long pin, and light it with a match.... it burns like a torch!!! for quite a while..... ( not sure about DRY roasted peanuts,,,.. ) i'll have to try it... jt
  5. good luck then,,, i found some cases where both responses seemed to be valid, for me,,,, anyway... jmy,
  6. Around the age of 14 ...I was a Caddy, at a private golf club which was about 4 miles from our home. My 3 brothers and a couple of cousins, also worked there...before that ,,, my 'job' was to do anything around the house which my Mom or dad asked of us... mow lawns, work in the garden, clean the yard..or our play areas,,,rake leaves,,, made good Money for the times, at the Golf Club.. ( mid 60's) double 18,,,,, 2 golfers at a time. paid 16 bucks, and took about 4 hours.. If we did a double 18 in the morning and another in the afternoon, we'd make over 30 dollars, get lots of excersize, and then always had money in our pockets. Also got to play the course for free,,, ( caddies day) when they closed on mondays... once i turned 16 however, i got 'working papers', and a social security # so i could be on the payroll and worked as a full time carpenter apprentice for a corporation which My father and my Uncle Joe owned...and where they worked, themselves... ( i then caddied on the weekends) We built NICE custom homes,, no 2 alike. 2500 to 3,000 square feet... I worked 8 to 4 :30, all summer and whenever we had a day off from school.. hard work,,cement blocks and mason laborer, then carpenter and roofer,,, we did everything except the plumbing and electric... i have 3 brothers near in age to myself, and we ALL were on the construction crew, at one time or another. made 4.50 an hour,, back when gasoline for my car cost 35 CENTS a gallon... learned a LOT,,, including that working for one's father,, is a tough job.... still working, but Now for myself and MY family.. ( i sometimes take MY son to work with me,,,he's 23, and i pay him pretty well. I enjoy his company on the job., though i can't say for sure,,,, that MY father would say the same....
  7. first of all.... that's a BEautiful container.....
  8. HAS to be the Ranch... Gardiner New york... HAS to be. bright sunny days, cool temps, The leaves on the trees in the catskill Mountain Area, are changing... bright beautiful bursts of orange , red, yellow and green... Oh and did i mention Super Otters??? ... and helpful friendly staff... and a wide variety of knowledgeable, amusing and interesting jumpers... that's where i visted last october. and where i WILL visit ,,,, this october...as well as this may,,, and June, and july.... well you get my point.... jmy
  9. are YOu for Real???? or what??? how can you continue to defend that malicious behavior?? got a brother who is a cop???? or somethin'??? are YOU a cop or somethin'??? do you REALLY think that THAT footage was "manipulated??? if so then WHY????? gimme a break... the "peace officer",,, ( THAT'S a good one ) was waaay outta line... IMHO jmy
  10. the thread title,,, says it ALL don't kids ride BUSes to school anymore??? i feel for the lady,,, IF she has to take a newborn out the door, every morning while she drives her OTHER kids to school,,, BUT her "motherly instincts" .... stink!!!.. AND talking on the phone??? Bad judgement. Unsafe driving.. she worries about one aspect of her childs needs,,, i e hungry, but ignores the worse situation, the likelihood of crashing the car and killing EVERYone... proper Motherhood, a challenging and seemingly LOST art, these days... jmy
  11. right!!!.. it took over 20 posts, which incorrectly dealt with LOOKING,,, before we got the proper answer.... 5 second delays are the worst... The student has lost the usable relative wind from the exit propwash,,, has now fallen into that slow and sluggish airspeed which is inherent, at the 3, 4 ,5 second stage, and has not yet Accelerated up to freefall speeds which begin to approach terminal velocity... take the plane UP another 500 feet or a grand,, and FREEFALL... Lock out a nice relaxed arch... and just about the time that the wind starts to whistle in your ears... Deploy! A friend who now has thousands of jumps often tells me about the time he was" stuck on 5 seconds",,,and I jumpmastered him out of the cessna.. I asked the pilot for 4 -FIVE , told my friend,, "we NOW have given you , a nice altitude cushion,,, do a good exit, get squared away,,WATCH the aircraft as you leave,,,RESIST the initial "urge to pull", THEN, do a controlled wave offf and deploy". The plane was going to a higher exit altitude ANyway,, so WHY??? dump the student out at 3,200, or 3,500??.... do one more turn , and get the poor novice some AIR...My friend claims that THAT approach absolutely helped to "get over that stage", in into terminal freefall....
  12. movies are all well and good.. But to elevate everyone involved in them to Sainthood... IS a bit much... How much back-patting, and self indulgence do these people need?? Gimme a break... sure the finished products are sometimes entertaining... But hell don't they shoot 8 or 10 "takes" just to get it right?? man.. these folks make MONEY like it's no tomorrow,,, the media and some people adulate them like as if they were Gods... and they fawn over one another, shamelessly... Something is wrong with that.. What ever happened to the concept of "the starving artist"?? I'm sure most of those fancy folks are not struggling,, ( well except for those with drug or substance abuse problems),,, and they have more than enough $$$$ to live the good life... But enough is enough... While it's true that there are examples of fine and philanthropic Types within the movie industry....for the most part, I tend to see...opulence in beverly Hills and Hollywood,, right NEXT DOOR. to serious social issues, poverty ,crime and despair.. right there in Los Angeles.... not to mention many many places on this planet... Those folks live in a bubble of narcissism,,,becuse we the ticket buying public made such a consumptuous lifestyle possible... How about Oscars for teachers??? or for Public servants in everyday Life?? For those who toil, not for the big bucks, but for the benefit of the society in which they live... I could name a couple of dozen totally anonymous individuals who are far more worthy of an award, than are many of the Actors whom we have elevated far beyond what is reasonable. Right beside the movie and TV industry, exists the Music ,Sports and Entertainment Phenomena....they are all getting out of hand. ridiculous salaries and payoffs for pro sports, over the top earnings for musicians and actors... ALL of whom claim " I'd do this for the LOVE of it".. "Oh yeah??" ..."well, Let's see "... How about if the IRS taps that income, for a specialty tax that is specifically earmarked for "sports, arts, recreation and entertainment" on the local and on the community level, so that fans and lovers of music and art, aren't being tapped 50 or 100 bucks,,, for "tickets" to such events....But can find sensible satifying events more often and more easily...and closer to home. It's been said that the buying public, who is willing to pay, has created this situation and i suppose any time any of us buys a movie ticket, or goes to a concert , that we're contributing to the mess.... but Realizing that, is a good first step to changing it. jmy
  13. around about 30 years ago, i was nearing my jump # 1000.. i needed 5 jumps that day, ( a weekend day) to make it happen. the Dz had a 182 and people were kind enough to allow me to make back to back loads as that magic number approached.. Well,, I borrowed a rig from a friend of mine, and it happened to have a Strato-Star main...( never had jumped a 5 cell before, just strato-clouds) It was ON THAT DAY... that i made a vow,, which i have Never broken..... " I will not EVER jump a canopy with 5 cells, Again"..... the next jump i made that day was # 1000 and it was made using my Round french papillon hahaha.. I did like the pictures of the reconfigured stiletto... very creative...BUT it has too few cells to it... so... I'll be happy to watch..... while someone ELSE jumps it... have fun, but do so... carefully. jmy
  14. i could only watch about 7 minutes of that clip.... The man "is a ass"... That show tends to try real hard to mix together, people who are going to be like "oil and water"....i guess that is part of the shows' schtick...... BUT this guy has the lead, in being the worst arrogant jerk i've seen... and his real wife, seems to be not only just as bad, but seems to feed into his "elitist attitude"..... A REAL person,,, male or female, is one who can see things from another person perspective, is capable of empathy, and knows when to keep his or her own mouth SHUT>>>> to blatantly insult someone, as he does to the "new wife" shows a huge lack of couth, and class... That is the kind of man,,, who should NEVER have children... He seems rather taken with HIMself, and his wife,,, who claims "i can't be around my kids" all day long, is also a lousy parent... They are both enamored with themselves and it seems that they feed off of each other, as well as Into each other... As a born and raised American,, I must say that i am ashamed that He was granted citizenship... "I make more in a week than you make all year.".... SAY Again???????... what a crude and rude comment to make... to anyone,,,, true or NOT..... My parents always stressed " if you can't say something nice about someone,, say nothing at all"... i feel terribly for that couples' children... what in the world will become of them...? I noticed a number of video clips related to that man.. but have NOT watched them... I just enjoyed my dinner. and would hate to create a scenario by which i'd suffer indigestion.... I'd love to see a follow up of that family in about 10 years, from now.... the few minutes which i endured, seems only to be, the tip of the iceberg.... jmy
  15. the grounds for divorce were "cruel and inhuman treatment"...... I GUESS so.... this guy HAS to be be waaay OUT there... he has two children with this woman..... and he does that???? to their mother... sick...... doesn't even come close...... jt
  16. Oh No!!!!! NOT your " typing " thumb,, or your Mouse operating thumb... Sweet pototoes are very very tough to cut.... they resist,,, just so long... and then BANG!! they let the knife Fly... squash... butternut, acorn, etc,, are that way too.. and the bad thing is.... While struggling,, we just KNOW that the damn knife is gonna slip.....and STILL can't manage to prevent it.... best to Microwave them FIRST for about 3 or 4 minutes,, and THEN have at 'em... Break out the neosporin.. jmy
  17. during the DAYtime hours on that day weather was REAL rough. cold wet,,, winds ABOVE 45 mph gusts over 60... the night was damp, cold freezing drizzle... That Dash 8 has a HUGE Tee-Tail (think King Air 200 series, but BIGGER ). does the Horizontal Stabilizer also have de ice boots???.. first thing i mentioned to Nancy the morning when it was on the news show on tv at 5:30 Am, was " i bet when they added flaps, in preparation for landing, they slowed down just enough to hit an above normal stall speed". That, plus the low altitude, made for a nasty situation. Reports today say the plane pancaked onto the house, meaning (to me) that they almost had it pulled out...making it EVEN tougher to take... Buffalo NY is a resilient and strong community. They have weathered many many a rough situation.... this one will be yet another challenge to the citys' Integrity..May all who are involved, recover.... Peace,,,, to all the souls on board and to the family who own the Home. jmy
  18. Disclaimer... this post will be NOn-Understandable, to anyone who has NeVER watched, Dick Clarks' American Bandstand... but here goes... " i give it a 4 point 6, cause it has a good beat, and it's easy to dance to "
  19. he's a kid.... nothing better to do than make an "I'm the star" home movie... his complaint is out of line, in an area that already has far too FEW constuction projects happening... rather than feeling good that at least SOMEone is working, he's upset.. Likely went to sleep at 5 am. and has too little to stay busy with... I thought all along ,,, that Demi only married him, so that HE could babysit BRUCE Willis' Kids!!!! hahahahaha Now, Moore...?? yes. i can always take Moore, of Demi... her VOICE alone, seems to do it , for me.. jmy
  20. "When the Olden days, were the Golden Days" "From Whence, we Came" "The Days, before the Haze..." jt ps.... I DO like "squares Jumping rounds",,, better , though.
  21. Your 3-ring system has no FAA certification. JerryBaumchen while the stitching on the housing actually looks preety GOOD, i was mostly just kiddin'.. as for the 3 rings... I give greater credibility to Bill Booth, than i do the the FAA... and so, if bill says "they will work"... that's good enough for Me...
  22. that doesn't look " TSO-ed",,, either who wrote the manual??? Rube Goldberg ??
  23. i'm not a rigger.. BUT that sure looks NON TSO-ed..... to me. jt
  24. the nylon "secondary" strap runs under the base plate and over the 'ears' of the helmet. it's simply one continuous band, with a clip at either end, and adjusted very precisely, for length, soas to not be too long or too short. strictly a back up, since the Q releases hold each camera, very solidly...yet easy to unclip if i want to hand hold either camera, or if i want to flip out the video viewfinder. jmy
