Sweet basil, picked fresh off the plant, from the garden. Spearmint Leaves picked fresh off the plant, from the garden. ALL the variety of aromas, from A carnival or country fair. The smell of a good CIGAR !!!! Burning leaves in Autumn... Pine trees at Christmas Time... A turkey roasting in the oven A Glazed ham with plenty of Cloves, just as it finishes cooking... Marzipan... a good leather toiletries satchel/case to keep such items together. a basic first aid kit, just in case,,, and a sewing kit. for repairs and replacing buttons etc. a dozen or more, Stamped envelopes with YOUR name and address on them, and some blank paper , so he can Write you a REAL letter, every once in a while,, and MAIL it to you. Emails, texts, I M's etc etc so lack the personal touch, of " a college kids' letter to his Mom"... a pack of double A batteries,, a functional smoke alarm, in case his ROOM, is without... don't be satisfied if there is an alarm in the hallway... head phones or good ear plugs, in case the roommate is noisey or inconsiderate in his music volume... A picture ( preferably an 8 x 10 Glossy,,,,) framed,,,, of his dearest Mother..... A letter from you,,, with instructions NOT to open it, until he has been at school for one full week... In it, you can express your pride, and best wishes to him, and help to "console" him,, in case he becomes 'homesick'.....

nice set-up providing that the remote wire is eventually run inside the liner of the helmet, then out through the shell to connect into the camera body.. you may also want to consider a 'disconnect plug' somewhere between your hand and your helmet..... this way you can don the helmet,,, and then connect up ,, prior to jumping.. It also will allow for a breakaway point, between you and the helmet,,, in the rare case where you have to shed the helmet...during an emergency... I had success with a SoNY DSC-V1, which had a wired remote. running the cord inside the sleeve of the jumpsuit worked well, especially with the additon of a 2 piece "molex connector",, located on the wire,, about a foot below chin level... plug the ends together, stow the connection inside your jumpsuit,, and you're good to go... ps,, i now use a NIKON (top mounted ) but sometimes also add the V1, onto the forehead of my helmet skydive safely. jmy A 3914 D 12122 4 stack 930

quite right.... I've been blasted MANY times before... about that idea... "sell alot less videos"... fact is it doesn't matter to Me,, very much, whether the club or DZO sells video... I've Never been in it for the money, and less videos,, especially at a cessna DZ simply means MORE open slots, for fun jumpers,, solos , or H & P's , and less of the 'commandeering of the plane' by the tandem concession.... no offense meant to anyone,,, especially those who 'make a living' shooting videos... skydiving existed just fine for ME, for 25 years BEFORE>> everyone who makes one damn jump, Needed to have a video of it.. i swear, better than 50 % of all people who DO make a jump, only do it, cause they can get the vid... which i DO understand, is a motivational force helping to sell first jumps... it's just that I disagree with alot of that premise... skydiving was doin' just fine Before tandems and the related videos... i suppose it's the way things evolve, but i still tend toward the 'primitive side'... just the way i am...... jmy 4 stack 930 nscr 1817 36 hr ff # 1281

"demands" and dropzones simply do NOT go together.... especially if the demand is from some whuffo... further evidence that the "general public" often views us as a "place where they can "buy a skydive".... Charge card handy???? well the the sky's the limit... "I'll have a couple of tandems for my wife and her friend,,,", and "oh yes, we want a turbulance -free ride to altitude, we want a perfect spot, No dizziness or upset ( vertigo nausea etc ) for the student, we want a spot -on -target landing, best to be sure it's standing... Get video of EVERYthing said or done by "the star of the show", and get the landing and the part afterwards, where my wife tells me how great it was"...and how i'm such a Dear for buying it for her.... "Oh ,,??? you say the cameraperson had a cutaway, and landed out??? " So" ???? i bet No words of concern were mentioned... "Is she OK??" "did someone go to pick her up"? no understanding of a reserve ride .. " so THEN ?? WHERE was the video person??? No.... Only, "Breach of contract.. i want a refund..." screw 'em.... those sort of folks just bug the hell outta me... I've often said,,,, NO video at ALL on a first jump.... Want a video??? come back and do a second tandem!!!.. That's One way to increase the number of T 2's that a Dz might do... hell i had 1500 jumps before i ever even saw a photo of myself on a skydive, let alone a damn video with soundtrack and interview, and top notch footage,, all mixed and ready, within 30 minutes of landing...... one of the reasons, i would rather pay my own slot and video a fun jump with friends, than shoot a tandem student.... Man.. guess i'm getting jaded, in my old age,,, pardon me... jt

Nikon D200..... deal or no deal ?
jimmytavino replied to jimmytavino's topic in Photography and Video
well the Deal is Done... met with the seller who was cordial and punctual... the camera is in clean and very good condition.. The seller included a charger with power cable, 2 batteries, usb cable, video out to analog video cable, ( to allow for running slide shows on a screen,) and a camera bag... 550, hard earned dollars went from my hands to her hands. craigs list. over the past 4 months or so. Nikon D200 ..................... 550 70mm to 300mm lens ..... 200 SB-80 flash ...... 400 above set-up complete, 1,150... Body only on the D200 new was around 1,500... alllll components are in very good to excellent condition,,, 'and most everything for the D200 is compatible with the D70s... except for the remote jack, which plugs into the body, and accepts the tongue switch ...well can't have EVERYthing,, i guess.... still need to get the adapter for that... jmy -
that linkage is very delicate, and so if anything comes out of alignment it can effect the loading of a tape.. do you jump that camera with or without a protective box? without one, the camera can be subjected to taking a hit, usually as one exits from inside, and accidentally bangs the top of the door jamb.... if that happens something could have become bent. the door which closes over the tape latches right at the top of the camera body,, and that area is susceptible to such damage. A strike of the camera could occur and not even be noticed,,, as you exited... try taking a good look there,, to be sure everything aligns like it should.. outside the camera and inside. visualize how all that tape carriage linkage interacts and make delicate adjustments if needed ... good luck jmy

.. well that's almost as good as "an amazon hug"... i'll look forward to it.

Nikon D200..... deal or no deal ?
jimmytavino replied to jimmytavino's topic in Photography and Video
Thanks Laszlo I spoke to the seller late this afternoon. Photo student, Just graduated,, bought the camera new, sale includes Body, Two batteries, charger, usb cable, cd, and owners manual. Not sure if she'll include any compact flash card (s) Said she's been shooting more film, than digital and wants to buy a Hasselblad film camera...... and so is selling this "lightly used Nikon" said she's lined up work in NY City. She couldn't say just how many shutter activations, but i gathered from her answers to some questions, that it's NOT 10's of Thousands, or anywhere near that... i plan to look at it on friday. I'm pleased about the 2 batts. and charger I hope to find this item to be in very good condition... thanks all j t -

Nikon D200..... deal or no deal ?
jimmytavino replied to jimmytavino's topic in Photography and Video
so here's the scoop... I'm perusing Craigslist and i come upon someone who wants to part with a Nikon D200 body only... College student Roch. Inst. of Tech. ( R I T ) well i'm happy with my D70S but... I could be Happier with a D200... i'm guessing that it takes the same battery and charger as my D70S.... true?? or No?? since it doesn't appear like the charger is included. I think the D200 is heavier,, but i can live with that. seller asks 650 USD i offer less. seller indicates they will accept 550 USD... i'm thinking DEAL!!! any reason(s) it should be NO DEAL????.. help me quick friends... wanna close this deal by thursday. Saskia??? J Agard? namgrunt?? all you Nikon lovers out there?? helllllllp !!! jimmy -
You gotta watch the Duck Man story, you just gotta.
jimmytavino replied to skymama's topic in The Bonfire
I had no idea they nest off the ground like that, that's interesting. Was the EARTH movie worth seeing? Nor did I,,, the movie was very good and as you'd imagine some of the footage was great... It's all good, but we left the theater thinking , "they left OUT so much".... since the natural world and the oceans and jungles, and Ice caps and forests have Soooo many amazing stories and visuals... I went with my daugher and her boyfriend, to a weekday matinee, during her spring break a while ago. ( She's a 7th grade Soc. Studies Teacher) saved a few bucks that way... It was time well spent but a film better rented, once it's available , as long as you have a nice screen at home,, ( which we don't !! ) ( the discovery channel series Earth may have some of the footage compliled here, and vice versa... ) NOW back to the QUACKERS!!!!!! jmy -
2:00am - I can't sleep if you want to talk. OK, that shit made my decision even easier. NO DICE. hahaha i did NOT see this post when i sent in a reply earlier.... NOW , checking back here, i read that the guy has itchy texting fingers at One and Two O'clock in the morning!!!!!!!!yikes... and your reply here... simply reinforces what i mentioned earlier...i.e. good instincts

hahaha Very Nice. I can see where all Moms would identify with seeing the Mother and her ducklings make it to safety.. -
no loss here... except maybe for HIM.... you both showed initial interest, in one another and you were straightforward and Up Front about how and where you spend your free time... ( doing what makes you happy ) and His reply,,, "even I ONLY golf one day a week.... (snob reply) he's divorced for a reason,,, and it's just a guess here,, but I'd say that an attorney is more likely to be impacted by last minute "work related emergencies" and "sudden changes of plans",,,,, than most other professionals or skilled tradesmen... When the date is broken or feelings are hurt due to such last minute rescheduling, it is always the case where the 'rescheduler' dictates the situation, and THEN plays like THEY are the victim here..... that sort shit could get tiring Fast... IMHO The text message was Nasty and somewhat insightful... A person who accuses another of Lying is often one, who is prone to such behaviors themselves. Interpreting your words, as a lie to "get out of dating me" is rather crass AND presumptuous comment on his part...wouldn't you agree??? As soon as they wanna know, "why would you jump from a perfectly good airplane"? ( a phrase that i Hate hearing and hate answering) walk ,,, no RUN !!! the other direction... is it good to have a S O who is NOT entrentched in our sport???? Sure... and that blending of the skydiving world and your real life world CAN be a good one and CAN work,, AND it does result in a better balance than say a SO who is also overenamored with the sport...hundreds or thousands of jumps are FINE.... but it's also good to have a full and "normal " life , when Not at the DZ... "I'll call you in a few weeks "to see if you're still into this skydiving thing"...' say WHAT???!!! ..... he does NOT get it... so who CARES if he's HOT and good looking......... your post shows that you know exactly what you're doing and have good instincts, traits that will carry you well, on a DZ and OFF.. my $.02 skydive safely, skydive often, skydive with friends jimmy o[:-)

true enough, my knowledge IS limited, cause i never heard of a sony IP5.. always used hi8 camcorders and then mini DV since the late 90's... the PC series have always been well regarded and the trv series for top mount... now high def sony, either tape based or memory stick would be a good choice. prices are very reasonable and if you want video, it's good to strive for the BEST quality you can get... ( micro tapes are for answering machines... aren't they??/?? ) ....

the cameraPERSON.. influences whether the shot will be stable...... or Not. the camera is a tool... better to use the BEST tools you can find/afford.. soas to limit disappointment...whether you're videoing for work or for play... good luck jmy
