jimmytavino replied to pchapman's topic in The Bonfire

Question about logbooks and currency
jimmytavino replied to ikon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
keep one... some day you'll be glad you did. as for alti track or pro track..... what's to say ??? you didn't simply grab a buddys' and USE that.... as evidence of jumps completed??? not saying you would... but technically i suppose, you could... it takes a little bit of effort and discipline to stay on top of written log books. and both effort AND discipline are GOOD traits to have, and to further develop,, if you wanna stay in this sport for very long. -
Green light ... "Go! Go! Go!" ... just venting

"with the door open" hell back then, we jumped out of alot of planes, that didn't even HAVE a door. just an open space, in the side of the fuselage.... as i'm sure many of us can recall.. jmy -
Any entomologist out there? Huge ant looking bug need help identify.

That is an Ant which would make me say " UNCLE " !!!!!!! jt -
i'm sure that EVERYONE has daydreamed about what they would do if they Hit it rich..... but dreaming and reality are two different things... I would start up a crew.. give them uniforms and a truck, brooms and trash containers.... I would send those crews to every single convenience store, liquor store, and newstand in the area, and have them Clean UP the TONS of "loser scratcher tickets", which inevitably always litter the parking lots, around those places... I've seen people who can't buy milk and bread for their kids,,, throw away $$$$ on scratcher tickets,,, play them in the car, and then casually toss the losers OUT the window onto the ground.. (that soooo pisses me off ) anyway.. my crews would be instructed to take their truckloads, and DUMP them onto the lawn,,, at the State capitol.. so that Those idiots who envisioned , authorized and then created the biggest drain, on poor peoples limited money,, could see how wasteful the whole idea,, really is... Next. I would go out and buy the type of equipment that i install in my work,,,( wheelchair lifts and stair lifts) by the dozens,,,, and sell them for 25 cents on the dollar,,,so that i can effectively shut down the places against whom i've had to compete all these years,,,,, AND soas to allow those who need such items,,, to GET them,,, at a sensible price... Running That operation at a huge loss will offset the income,,,, which i hope to generate, when i buy up distressed residential properties,,, rebuild them, using the crews from my "lottery litter teams" and then sell THEM, for a 100 to 200 percent improvement from what i paid... That would create jobs, improve the housing stock in the area, provide homes for working class people, and keep my sister-in-law, the real estate agent, flush with commisions... If i won over 10 million, I would earmark one million each for my 2 children, establishing a trust fund which only allows for 50,000 dollars withdrawal, in any calendar year..And i'd create a similar fund with 3 million in it for my Wife.... with NO restrictions whatsoever!!!!!!! hahahaha Oh yeah... I'd buy myself a new rig. and once a month host "jumps are on jimmy" days at the DZ make 2 make 7 , what's the difference??? jimmy's picking up the tab!!!!!! If i hit for 25 million or more....There would be a spanking new Super Otter flying those jumpers... ..Like i said... DAY dream..... jt

jimmytavino replied to pchapman's topic in The Bonfire
I truly have NO idea!!!!! HOW we EVER managed to exit an airplane.... BEFORE there were lights???? does this mean that a couple of thousand jumps i did,,, B . L > "before lights",,, without the benefit of someone screaming at me..... don't count??? just wondering... -

well then, speaking of tomatos the cherry tomatos have been ripening for a couple of weeks now and the bigger ones are just now starting to come in... The BEST..... is a tomato & cucumber salad... WITh generous pieces of red onion, a HUGE handful of fresh basil,, ( those plants are pushing 3 feet in height, ) LOTS of salt, some pepper, some oregano, and some oil and vinegar.. I prefer that salad to be made up, mixed well and Chilled in the fridge, before enjoying it. Oh and another great thing is the basic Tomato and Mayonnaise sandwich.. Big slices, just a bit of mayo,,,, with salt and pepper, to taste........ better have a napkin handy jt

has this happened to anyone else?
jimmytavino replied to kapers's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
if you stepped up for your dzo when help was needed,,, AND if you are doing a safe and proper job while packing, then the DZO should now step Up for YOU, and any other longer term packers,,, and let the interlopers know that 1. the current need for tandem packers was met 2 weeks ago( when you started helping out.) 2. there is "a line " for packers and they can get at the end of it, and can step in whenever YOU have had more work than you can handle. I'd suggest that you not be knocking your self out, teaching others to pack, so that they could take work away from you... How much volume is there??? is there enough work for Many?? or not?. Are you at a turbine Dz or a cessna dz? if there are only so many pack jobs a day,,,,, then it seems to me, like YOU have seniority regardless of your active skydiving experience and even though you " are a high school kid". Being ambitious is a good thing and you should be rewarded for that, not made to lose work, simply "cause others have shown up" at YOUR dz... just my $ .02 jmy -
Ah..... i see. my bad... sorry. thanks for explaining jt

"that's just too funny" what the hell is so FUNNY about someone going in??? jmy

simple then,,, WHO was the last rigger to sign off on it...? i've always imagined that a repack consists of pulling the reserve completley OUT,,, going over everything, and then Packing It!!.right??? but, could be..... i dunno, but maybe.,.. some riggers, only do a "modified version" of the UNpack procedure.. especially IF they are the rigger, who ALWAYS does the repack... any actual testimony to support this possibility??? besides, what skybytch has just now brought to our attention... jt

Man Pleads Not Guilty to Naked Doorbell Ringing
jimmytavino replied to Sletzer's topic in The Bonfire

i'd say it's not an orgy Unless it lasts for say, 6 Hours or so... for me,,,, ??? it's mostly,,,,,,, "a dream" .... ( and so is " 6 hrs, or so" )

does the group work as a team ??? to contain the reserve as the Rig is removed from the jumpers back??? Then the jumper is seatbelted safely to the aircraft??? the rig is monitored?? and everyone lands... with the plane?? certainly a different situation in a cessna, as compared to an otter.. so what say you????? everyone..??? stay In the rig, or get it off the jumper??? what about the possiblilty of an aircraft emergency (mechanical ),, ? (i guess we ALREADY have an aircaft emergency)..... but, what if it becomes necessary to GET OUT.. while the plane is in descent mode??due to an engine issue??? i suppose it's not the best idea to get out of the rig.... but it seems to me that it has become a "hot Potato",,,, and might be better if it was NOT secured to a jumpers body... good question, OP... jmy

parachute related, cause it happened on the DZ. A recent A Lic. holder, was a middle aged guy who is young at heart.. he'd been around for a while and so one day was at the DZ with some of his Family members,,,, So while trying to be friendly i went over to say hello.. and I asked him,," So.. Is this your Mom" ? and he replied,, " NO!!! It's my WIFE"!!! Yikes!!!!! did I feel like an IDIOT???? Damn right... ( haven't seen her AGAIN,,, at the DZ.. ever....) IDIOT>>> second best blooper,,,, being unable to reach my PC hackey, on the day i returned from an injury layoff,,,, busting through 2 grand,,, and then finally pulling my reserve left handed.. in the saddle @ 1,200 feet. at least i beat the cypres to the punch..... jmy

Video: No jumpsuit BFRs from Summerfest
jimmytavino replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
"luckily, i was in the base"....skittles reply..... on a dive like that, the base is simply another name for "the target"... and with all those meat missles zoomin' around,,, thank you very much,, but i'd rather be a late trailer.. looks like a fun time... thanx for sharing. on no suiters and speed stars,, there is nothing wrong with LOOKING around a little, before actually closing to a slot...often there can be more than one person eyeballing the same slot, and the quickest way to mess up that sorta jump , or ANY jump, is when someone falls on it, or bangs into another docker,, Be ready to "yield the right of way", and either WAIT, or slide over to a different slot , if the situation allows.. if at least SOME of the people can be a little patient,, the chances for a completion , improve. jt -
Doing tandems vs. NO skydives
jimmytavino replied to ocb217's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
sangi..... buddy i love ya' and you're a good example of the wonder that IS DZ dot com.... we live in a wild and widely diverse world... and this site connects us,, from the Americas, to Europe, from east to west, and to well below the equator to the great amazement that is Australia..AND S.Africa...(cheers peej ) Variety is abundant and differing opinions are many.... You ask "why should a 20 year old do what the Mother stipulates"??? hahah i am gettin' into my late 50's and i still DO what my Mom asks... especially if it is a sensible request.. BUt you're correct, in that i may NOT have been so quick to comply decades ago, when i WAS in my 20's.. Funny how time and life's journey, changes how we think about things... As others have noted, your posts are telling, can be "strongly opinionated" which is neither here nor there. I guess what matters is,, you're free to express those ideas, right or wrong, for or against....here on this site... amazing thing , the internet... thanks all ,,, for the fun and vigorous dialogue, here in the forums.. it's why i check in, from time to time. skydive safely, skydive often, skydive with friends jmy -
yes maybe at first glance.. BUT the REAL villain, as we later learned,,,, is that mysterious, hooded ,Emperor Palpatine the dark side CAN be as powerful a force, as it is,, evil.and sometimes , even the strong succumb... My choice would be the Great White... who busted up the vessel Orca, and took out a great , complicated, and tragic movie (almost ) hero,,, Quint..in a most horrendous way... Few other villains can be so quickly identified, by just a few bars of Music!!! choice two... might have to be That nasty ET who Sigourney Weaver had to deal with, in the first Aliens...That thing was Interplanetary Evil...and tearing her crewmate in half,, was about as villainous as it GETS... Then of course there is "Newman" whose eyes have "been looked into," and he "is PURE Evil"...( always thought that show should have revealed newmans first name,,, ) ( and my idea would have been to clear it first, with the GREAT Mister Paul Newman, to get His ok,,,,, and then letting jerry and all the rest learn that ......their nemesis WAS indeed,,,, PAUL Newman!!! ) But i digress.....

Star Crest Awards -- Please check in
jimmytavino replied to Douggarr's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
great story...a formation load night jump , IS special I see that you listed your NSCR as 2350.... i think maybe you added one too many digits, since i earned MY NSCR in around the Late 70's and received # 1817.... soooo your number has to be waaay lower than what you listed. since you made the jump many years earlier. just settin' the record straight. jmy uspa 9452 scr 6190 scs 4876 nscr 1817 -
Doing tandems vs. NO skydives
jimmytavino replied to ocb217's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
very good post... Inspiring,,, in fact... As the parent of two 20-somethings children , i can only add that this is NOT a skydiving issue, but an issue of family dynamics,,, and it's not anyones' place here,,, to dictate that the Mom is being "mean" or unreasonable... By her own account the O P states that she's had a love for animals for years, which has led to a course of study in the veterinary sciences... That goal is a far greater one than the "joy" from a few AFF skydives.... it's no ones' place to intrude into that issue, and advise the OP to " go behind her back " or "do what YOU want, it's YOUR life".... A parent accepts the Huge responsibility of raising that child,, from the moment the child becomes part of the family, (in fact, from the moment of conception).. A child is assured financial support to to a certain age and emotional support up to and beyond adulthood, which is NOT determined by a number, but by an attitude. Some Kids are responsible at 16, some at 26, some, never.... A college education is not a right.... and payment of tuition, by the parents, is NOT an obligation...AFAIK... If they can help,, fine, if they set conditions, that's fine too...and not for anyone outside the family to critique'... I've been a parent, and i've been a son.. and unless each one here, who is chastising the Mom, and encouraging the O P to be deceptive, has seen the issue from both sides... then they cannot fairly advise ANYthing,,, other than adherance to the wishes of the Mom... it's real basic....... IMHO papa jimmy
