  1. What license did you have to have to jump a "high performance" StratoCloud when they came out? The Para-Plane Cloud, Parafoil, Para Plane Sled. and Strato Star preceeded the "strato-cloud"... It seems my buddies never Never really thought about needing a license level per se.. mostly what you needed was "big Ones" and good health care coverage
  2. SIX BUCKS???????? Really???????? Damn... tickets are $10 here! Then go buy 3 gallons! speaking of gallons.. I was in Ovid NY the weekend after katrina, I put a One Hundred dollar Bill into the gas tank of my van. hahahaha.. That didn't even get it filled,,I refused to spend More than the 100., matter of principal.. Thanks for the heads up man.. I tried to read the book and just never picked it up again after maybe 75 pages... i sorta don't follow the whole "thing".. i don't know about any "code", but I do like DaVinci's inventions and art work, and he does have a cool beard!!
  3. Our club now uses a hard copy tandem 'lurker' form which must be signed by all involved. If either the TM OR the camera person declines to have the solo jumper join the dive, ( for ANY reason ) then it's a "no go". ...Lurkers can tend to over amp, or skate around near the Tandem. I have had more than one person slide right under me while i am concentrating on the student. i did see it coming and recovered Ok.... but it can add an unnecessary sense of "adventure" to the whole dive... On the other hand, if the solo is cool, follows instructions on where to be and where not to be, and leaves the dive as per the dirt dive, it is a nice thrill for the student.... It's all about freefall abilities and cooperation, NOT about showboating for a friend, and adding risk, to the mix...Most situations would call for more experience than A lic. level abilities..... " Sure ,, it's all fun and games, til someone gets creamed"...., and matching freefall speeds, ( or lack thereof) can often be a challenge and a surprise to the uninitiated...
  4. As long as the camera has a red "record" indicator light somewhere on the front of it. do what we did in the days before the cam eye II...carry a small pocket mirror to check your record status prior to exit... I never use the lanc port/ cam eye combo to turn the camera on and off. I use the standby switch/record button... Of course that could be a problem with some D boxes... but a mirror works/worked fine...
  5. usually never, at a club or a concert...hahaha but say, at a wedding?... sure !! I'll take a few turns on the dancefloor
  6. there is something comforting about a knowledgeable person who knows when to step up and speak, yet is also humble enough to know when to stand down
  7. That's the place.. Ask to speak with Mike Ordway.
  8. there is a video store a few miles from me,, which has been a Sony dealer for decades... It's the kind of place that has literally hundreds of tape decks and cameras and monitors and dvd players stacked all over the place.. some of this stuff has been there for 20 years... Anyway.. I'm in there a lot and last time I asked them what they had in the way of batteries and chargers for the 1000. He has new batteries still available as well as a charger that's compatible with them.. Not sure if the charger is factory orginal, but he assures me it will work. he quotes me something around 125 for both..... I'll put you in direct communication with the place,, ( It's called Video Awareness,,, Rochester NY ) if you like. jmy
  9. looks good. only I'd suggest that the ticker line continues to climb, as it fades off the page , to the right.. At the moment it drops....right there,,, and that is contrary to what investors might like to see... ... keep it climbing
  10. I hope you have solved the problem by now .... but for future situations, i find it is always helps to keep a key to the doors of my various vehicles, in my wallet, since that is always in my pants pocket... Has saved me some embarrassment a few times. Now,,,, if you can't keep your pants on,,,, that's another story
  11. ... your quote..."i'm lazy"...... Laziness leads to complacency complacencey leads to inattention and inattention in skydiving can lead to all sorts of "interesting things"... I fear not for you,, but for those who might be around you should such things occur. If you have more than a couple of dozen jumps and want to be considered a 'jumper'.. you really ought to know how to pack, and just like jumping,, you should at least do it often enough to stay current.
  12. ok... another good source for information

..ouch... for Fritz ...slick move Sid,,, picking up your legs so poor Fritz could absorb ALL 400 pounds of the 2 of you
  14. I absolutely agree........but I don't think her parents "created their empire".... they just live in it. The Grandfather was the real Reason for the Hilton wealth.. (or maybe a great grandfather).. Paris' father had it pretty easy i guess,,,and so does the wife and so do the daughters... as for the childrens choice in men ( and they are children) .....who cares???
  15. It used to be.... and maybe in some places ,, it still is.. but what a student is taught and what they learn can certainly vary... It's a matter of applying oneself and absorbing the information... I do NOT blame the system OR the teachers... I find that the fault lies with the students. In this day and age their priorities are faaaar different than was the case 20 or 30 years ago...And if a child can't see the importance of their various subjects, then they simply "tune it out"......When we were young we had puzzles of the 50 states, where we would learn the Shapes of the states AND their locations,,,, AND it was fun.. TIme have certainly changed...
  16. geography is NOT the only thing that the younger generation does not know.. we are hurting in math Science,,, hell,,, even grammar has been left by the wayside... But ask 'em about the newest X-box game or what Lindsey Lohan is doing , and they are all just about 100 % on top of THAT!!!... go figure. PS Nice Avatar Amazon....
  17. well good for you scoop... you and your Mom sound like caring and considerite people... Yes.. if it is at all possible and sensible, i too have a tendancy to intervene. I have a real problem with blatant cruelty. true enough though, as many people say,,,we need to be careful about putting ourselves in harms way and each situtation must be evaluated seperately. While i would not encourage my wife or our grown daughter to do much more than dial 911 on a cell phone.. As a grown Man, with a fair amount of smarts and strength, I would tend to have the confidence it takes to either speak up sharply, or wield a tool/weapon to further make a point... Should things escalate beyond just words and verbal exchanges, and I find my own safety is in jeopardy , I would either get very very nasty,, or else do the wise thing and flee.... fight or flight. Now in a non combative situation or a case where someone is stranded or has a broken down vehicle, then yes again... I have been brought up to offer aid. And i have done so many a time. This world is often a cold and heartless place, (which sucks) so when someone is in dire straights and feeling helpless I see nothing wrong with stepping up and assisting. I take a "what goes around comes around" attitude and so i wanna heavily load the scales of justice so that they will balance my in my favor, rather than against me and mine.. peace jmy
  18. I'm not a rigger,,, "but i DID stay at a holiday Inn express once. "
  19. I always have, and I still do,, flat pack my main ( PD spectre 210 ) I almost never pack in the 'normal' packing areas though, since flat packing takes up too much floor space. I usualy keep a packing mat/drag mat handy and try to pack in the shade. If it's real windy outside, or it gets to be night time, i'll steal a corner of the packing room and finish up promptly... Years ago we used to "flake" a canopy,, but round canopies,, not squares... "Flaking a cheapo" meant fixing the apex to a hook or a stake, asking someone to "stand tension", running a "4 line check" to be sure the canopy didn't have a step through or an inversion, and then manually grasping each suspension line one at a time and bringing them into the opposite hand while flipping the canopy fabric all to the same outside edge... Once all the lines were done and all the hems straightened out, the canopy would be laid down , fussed with a bit more, maybe folded, ( maybe not ) and sleeved or bagged. Para Commanders papillon, Sierra, starlights, etc.. were all flaked in a similar way, except those "high performance" ( hahahahaha) rounds required a bit more care, what with steering lines and apex lines.... Not much flaking going on anymore, except for pilot seat packs and round reserves. But flat packing still works very well for those who choose to do it.
  20. you need to be considerate of how MUCH the container moves UPwards on you... It will affect where your main pilot chute handle winds up at deployment alt., and could make for an awkward pull. ..IF the 3 rings are waaay up , near your ears,, as you say...will you even be able to reach your toggles,,, and slider?? Try it out from a suspended harness set-up at the dz. I once had Javelin resize a harness for me and they did a great job... good luck..
  21. ..." i SAID,,,,," Greeeeen Light"!!!....didn't you hear Me???"
  22. lighten up man...... the switch broke???? or.. you broke it???? they ARE delicate you know.....
