Tough question,,,, about what to do... When I see news reports and "on the scene'" video or pictures,, there is still TONS & TONS of debris everywhere... Sure sure. people can't get back in to clean up because there is no power. etc etc. Yet the ones who are working, who are cleaning, are simply taking the tons of debris and PILING IT UP in the front yard!!!!! NOW someone,,, either them or someone else is gonna have to come along and pick it all up AGAIN,,, to haul it away.. Why hasn't Waste Management and every other disposal service like them,,, in the ENTIRE country,, shipped every single one of it's available dumpsters to N.O. so that people can place the debris in THEM..... Gee,,, you'd think every container manufacturing plant in the World...... would be on triple shift making NEW dumpsters... 24 yard 40 yard... each easy to pick up and easy to drop.... Add a light system to the top of each box...Green Light,,, means "theres still room in here, load me up".. Red light is the word to the truckers, to "pick me up i'm full"... Now, where to take it???? not sure... Amazons Idea about using the debris as fill and then leveling it and covering it in soil is a good one... We build parks, playgrounds etc on top of landfills alll the time,,,, and in N O the fill is not 100% household garbage, but it is construction debris, wood, cement, gypsum, shingles.... In any event it won't matter !!! The "pace " of the clean-up is sooooo slow... that Mother Nature will take care of everything, anyway by this coming July August Sept..... category 5 is gonna be the new benchmark for storms,,,, NOT the Rare and ocassional 'monster cyclone'... God Forbid, but i am scared for the entire Gulf Coast,, since they are not done yet..... this is just a wintertime reprieve that we are in, and next Hurricaine season,, you can bet, we will see. similar and powerful destruction all over again.. Then all the crap will be washed over again, a certain, "annual rinsing" and flushed out into the Gulf.. rebuild N O ?? ... ok but if you (we, the taxpayers) do it... It should be done on some open areas hundreds of miles inland.... Don't mess with the Almighty, Don't toy with Mother Nature. Don't fall into the trap of thinking than MAN knows all the answers.. Hell MAN ( i. e. our Leaders and Gov't. ) hasn't yet even figured out the questions......But pouring Billions into an area that is suspect,,,,is foolish and stupid... IT's The GEOGRAPHY & LOCATION that is the problem.... NOT the people who live there!!!!!! This is not a Racist Issue,, this is not a poverty issue as alll the politicians and media people would have us believe... It's pure and simple common sense that on the geological level a sandy coastline, with the countries largest river adding to soil displacement and erosion which sits as a bowl below the level of the surrounding waters ( G of Mex) should be the least likely and least appealing place to build your homes . Sure exploit the river and the nearness to the waters for commerce, or transportation, or other 'business' but for Christ's Sake...... don't LIVE there...

..Ashtanga and AlexCrowley.... ...well the steroids comment in my original post was a bit "tongue in cheek".. cause I don't really know much about them... AND i'll take your advice,, and stay far away from them... A H. S. teacher once told Us..."hard work Rich Rewards".... so work.... I will. jmy

I had rotator cuff surgery in Nov... the Doctor said, the tear was massive, lots of fraying and retraction of the cuff. etc etc... He spent time to do procedures he had not expected to do. and only did some,,, of what he planned to do. Anyway. I HAVE been doing P T since 5 days after surgery, stretching and resistance excersizes... Yet i still feel very weak...They ( the therapists) tell me I have to 'build the muscles back up" ... Is there any certain diet or food group which I should consider, which helps in muscle growth??? Protien??? supplements???... My days of dreaming about professional Baseball are LONG gone so even steroids might be an answer..... No one seems to be able to help me... I was weak going into the surgery,, having dislocated the shoulder in July,, but at least before the surgery I could still raise my hand over my head.... Right now ,, I can't... I'm in my early 50's and not at ALL ready to become an "old man"... any ideas??? I am willing to work at it, as I have been doing now, for a while... ..any suggestions?? skydive softly skydive often skydive with friends

good question... this photo gives a better idea of the landing areas..plus aside from one Farmer McNasty, there are a good number of outs.. Each student is briefed in front of a 3' x 4' aerial photo and also taken outside to note the windsock location, and see what it's doing. Good instincts carbonezone.. some people do get a bit stir crazy around here, this time of the year.. and could just be making mischief... Funny how we have not seen a response from the original poster to any of the many replies..... -

Frontier Sky Divers MOST Expensive place to train

hmmmmm. Well I don't HAVE much money,, but I DO have Brains... and I know a good DZ when I see it... and soooo I have skydived at Frontier since the mid 70's I don't remember seeing YOU there.... and so just WHAT do you KNOW about the DZ I call HOME..???? The price list????.. What do you think.. since we are "non-profit" we will Not charge you to learn to skydive????? get real.. Ever look into just what DOES go into running a DZ.. ??????? Expenses,,,, are what keep us Non profit.... Much of the day to day work around the place is accomplished by volunteer-members... Still the USPA rated Instructors, the top notch student gear,,,the aircraft, the grounds upkeep and all the viscious and various "overheads" do require Money!!!! We all pay an annual membership fee, AND pay for our skydives or else work ( and work Hard) for our jumps....there's no free lunch John. If it was possible to train people like you,, and charge much much LESS.... we would accomplish 2 things... 1. we would be a "non ANYthing dz" 2. we would allow some newcomer like you... to share in what WE have worked decades to create... WHY should YOU get to jump out of a turbine, at 13,500 with two 20 + years AFF veterans going along to "cover for your student inadaquacies" and eventually guide you to a safe landing, and then get it "cheap".... go jump somewhere else.. The price of jumps. needs to be compared to the VALUE recieved for that expenditure..... and when turning out safe, capable student/novice skydivers is the Value..... the amount asked from folks like you.. is small small small.. I have grown weary the past few years of a growing Number of Non-skydivers who happen to fancy themselves as "adventure seekers" who come to our place as though it's "McDonalds".. and order up a tandem,,,, and "oh by the way, I want it with the best cameraperson you have, and I want it with a certain color jumpsuit, and I want it with this particular Tandem master, and I wanna jump with my 3 buddies, and I want It "IN THE NEXT HOUR"..... Take a back seat pal.... This isn't an amusement ride,, The hundreds of people who have come, and in some cases gone ( due to dissatisfaction with having to share their dropzone with impatient and sometimes inconsiderite "customers"... who show up once and then depart, leaving litter, empties and cigarette butts all over our manicured lawns).. those people have created the Place where you can " explore your wild side "..... you wanna skydive "cheap'??? I can name a couple of places you can go... But you'll get a 182 to 10,000. You WON"T jump with your friend,, and it'll be late afternnon before you get outta there.... OR you can come to our place.. PAY the very Fair price we are forced to ask,,,AND while you're waiting for you load.. maybe YOU can get on the tractor and spend 3 or 4 hours to mow the landing area the way a certain FEW members have been doing for years ( you know who you are,, all you hard working frontier staff and members) as for others,,, We DO have a welcoming attitude and a pleasant way at our safety conscious DZ... Please bring the same ,, if you THINK you are going to get to skydive with US..Experienced Jumpers... YOU are always welcome. bring your in-date reserve and your USPA/FAI credentials and we will share the sky, together... -

-
Sure..... did that for years,,, only i kept the mirror in my pocket... works just fine in the plane,,,or on the ground.. still the CamEyeII/ LANC port combo... is essential to me now,,, while in FF and under canopy.... guess we have to keep our eyes open for, decent condition, "obsolete" models which we can have on hand , should our current cameras fail.....( or Fall) jmy .....o[:-)

You absolutely have MY sympathy jkb,,,, and I KNOW of which you speak... I had arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, on my right shoulder about 1 week before this past Thanksgiving... The Doc said he found "massive tearing, frayed ligaments and a muscle which was torn lengthwise as well as on it's end"... ...I had first hurt it 4 or 5 years ago, landing in a mud puddle, near the pea gravel.. In a effort NOT to slip right on my butt when my feet kicked out.. I reached back with my arm to "catch myself"and really racked it,, when I fell against it...Then this past july 10th, while exiting a 6-way from a casa,, that same shoulder dislocated....( interesting dive ) ( good campfire story).
