nice... what kind of camera??? and how are you firing it????? o[:-) ........ jmy

.... waited for the D70s which came available in may/june '05....... the package I bought included charger battery cables software (to unload pics into my computer) AND AN 18 -70mm AFS Nikkor lens... I did have to buy the compact flash card,,, so I got a Lexar 1 Gig....that writes at 80X..... the lens works just fine at the 18 mm setting and exits as well as freefall shots fill the frame nicely... Anyone else get the D70s ????? with a different stock lens???? I then got the wired remote ,,,after 3 months on backorder,,, and Newsshooter12 helped me figure out how to splice the conceptus t switch onto it... the jack from the remote (MC-DC1) and the port on the camera body have a unique plug arrangement,,,, so we had to splice the conceptus onto it...... only used it for maybe 20 jumps,,,toward the end of our jumping season.....worked just fine...jmy...o[:-)

....sure.. ONLY don't think about to TOO much wow when you put it that way,,, 30-40 a year X 25 or 30 or 35 YEARS... then it DOES hit you hard,,,, between the eyes... And TOM.... it Has to be soooo much more difficult for an S & T A........... the more we give to the sport.. the more it can take from us... Your position of respect and authority tends to bring you closer to such occurences than the normal fun jumper might face..... For the fun jumper can turn away.... leave the sadness of trying to 'interpret' skydiving fatalities to those charged with such tasks... ( Dzo s , instructors, S&TAs )... so surely I DO have a sad sense of from where you are coming..... Yes we all study and follow these sometimes difficult to explain incidents, in the hope of learning the things which may prevent re-occurences, and when it is a Unknown person,, from far away, we say a prayer in our minds,, and strive to NOT repeat, any behavior which could be deemed the 'cause'..... It's nearly impossible to be an active jumper for a long length of time and NOT have a firsthand connection to someone from your own club, or your own 'area' or (sadly) your own 'group' who experienced a " life taking" situation and failed to survive it....should that ever occur,, I hope that I am not on the dz when it happens... So far... that hasn't always been possible... and regardless of the 'connection' to us of the jumper in question,,,, we ALL ache, we all hurt and we all cry inside and outside because we are a brotherhood and sisterhood and when bad things hit one of us,,, they hit all of us... In a world where high speed and high adrenaline sports are prevalent, danger DOES exist... ( Your instructor was right) In some sports it's worse than others. I have always felt that our sport was near the lower end of creating a possible fatality... BECAUSE we have a healthy respect for what we do... (more so than lots of other 'sporting' activities)......and because of real improvements in equipment and training... Yet when looked at,,, over DECADES, the numbers do make us wonder and yes the numbers ARE high, but so should be our resolve to lower them, year by year . as a tribute to those whom we have lost........ Be at peace Tommy for you are one of the people who is doing His part toward educating and assisting jumpers, in order to spare each of them such a fate... jimmy T

hmmmm Yikes!!!!!! I do not think those guys are "cameramen"...... Looks more like 3 skydivers with cameras on their heads...... and EVERY one of them is demonstrating... 'tunnel-vision' Meaning that they are so busy looking at one thing and one thing only,,, that they do not see EVERYTHING...... The one who is the main subject of the footage.. never sees the guy who comes from his upper left....til the last moment.. The one coming from the upper left,,, never sees the "subject" flyer,, cause he is focused on the one who is shooting this footage,,, and the one who is shooting THIS footage,,, never seems to Look UP to keep track of the flyer who enters the shot from the upper right.......... Camera flyers should NEVER get so focused on one subject, that they miss the rest of the Action!!!!!... Any ideas??? at what altitude this 'near-miss' might have occured????? ..... Let's be careful out there.... jmy.....o[:-)

....VERY cool thing ,, for you to do...

Now this guy knows how to handle a canopy ...

...real cool... like jumping rope..... any idea if.... that footage was shot from a hot air balloon????? that's the kind of sport where I'd prefer to be a 'spectator' .... -
Will this mean that people will be able to get tandems at reduced prices? [laugh*** .... Question is... what will they Both do... when every reputable skydiving facility in the country engages in a "silent boycott"...., and none of their clientele can get the jump accomplished.....???? could be interesting...

I thought twice about posting this.... but it needs to be said..... Damn.... you work in an elementary school???? and you say,, " ME and 3 co workers"??? yikes!!!!! Are you the Teacher or the Student??? Shouldn't that be "I and 3 co workers"??. man..... go as 4 Books.... a dictionary , a thesaurus, an encyclopedia and a book of Grammar.... and then Read yourselves.... or go as the 4 seasons... summer winter spring and fall... ( You can be Fall..... just put on your rig)... (get it???? Fall? yuck yuck yuck...) edited to correct MY spelling mistakes -
well... it never should have even come to a "trial".. lemme see if I have this right???? First we ( the GWB administration) declare this Guy, nothing short of 'public enemy # 1 '.... then we use that as a reason to go over there, ( we can't even evacuate a city on our own territory, of it's own people,, during a "peacetime' weather catastrophe, yet we can muster TONs and Tons of munitions, equipment, and supplies and thousands and thousands of troops, halfway around around the world to blow the tar outta a bunch of sad, sorry and poor sand dwellers ) to "raise a little hell" and assert OUR way of life onto an indiginous population whose customs, laws, and behavior are ignored and are swept aside in favor of 'democracy'.... His two sons were killed when they were located. Can anyone explain why Saddam escaped that same fate,,, when HE was located?????.. IF we are at war!!!!!! with this mans' philosophy, unhappy with his past "atrocities" and looking to 'even the score' for the death and destruction for which S. Hussein is responsible... then why on earth was he not "dispatched' on the day he was captured... Certainly, NONE of our US troops who have given a LIFE behind this "cause" had any sort of a chance to 'plead their case' before a tribunal,, on the world stage,,, evoking every last loophole, lawyer trick and twist of words, in an effort to extend their life.... Yet this seemingly "viscious" former tyrant.......who looks like he may be as "out there"... as one can be....will receive all sorts of considerations and 'support'......... Likely to be sentenced to death????? don't count on it..... work for peace, peacefully.

I started using a sony DSC-v1 when it first came out in the spring of 2003...The current updated versions are now out. W 1 etc. It takes very very nice shots... it's 5 mpixels the remote is complex as pointed out, earlier in this thread.... BUT.. it gives you an amber indicator light when the unit is ON, ( think cam eye II ).. it lets your fire the shutter, one shot at a time or multiple shots... It has a rechargeable lithium battery, it does take a compatible sony wide angle lens, and it IS small... drawbacks.... kinda slow, especially if the flash fires, and the wired remote which CAN be fished down a sleeve and clipped to your left hand,,, ( i wore it attached to the 'tubestow' part of my alti III), is a bit clumsy.... I superglued a little plastic piece onto the shutter button which gave it a better feeling profile..... i am now using a Nikon D70s.. top mounted,,,, it has a plug-in wired remote which we configured to work by tongue switch, (stock conceptus)........I still can attach the V1 to my forehead mount,,, IF I wanna fire Both stills.... i also run a dcr-trv27 on top of a full BatRak....

Difference from a 280 down to a 170?
jimmytavino replied to artistcalledian's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
roger that... so now add 20 pounds for things like your container, reserve, shoes, helmet instruments, and clothing...... and then factor in not only your relative lack of "time under canopy" but also your fewer than 2 dozen landings,,, and you'd likely agree that 169 ft2 is a bit too small....... hell, you need to be using a 210 or so..... -
... reminds me of a GREAT saying from the early '70s ....."Pot will get you through times of NO money.... ...better than money will get you through times of NO pot " ...

Would you let a 13 year old do a tandem?
jimmytavino replied to LawnDart21's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
. so the whuffo dad can't be happy with being at a dz,,, watching people skydive ,and being told in a polite way,, that "this is our policy".. regarding underage tandems.... huh????... No HE has to get pushy and rude and press his point,,,,, in effect saying,, " well !! we'll see about that ! ".. He must think he is at some amusement park or some fast food place,, where it's "ok to abuse the hired help".... well fine.... If and when he does return,, Notify him that the cost for those under age 18 is 200 dollars for EVERY year, that the student is below the age REQUIREMENT>>>> i. e. 1000 bucks for precious little miss salt.......See what he says THEN..... Sounds like the type of father who hosts underage drinking parties for their little "dears" so that the kid can be popular in school... Sheesh,, what ever happened to responsible Parenting.....??? -

Probably not....... No one ever said it was an Academy Award Show , Picture of the Year. But it's not Lame!!!,,, and certainly not stupid..... It's more like a 'long time ago movie',,(1984), that sorta developed a cult following over the years.. The skydiving scenes were pretty accurate FOR THAT TIME.......Small plane, "renegade" DZO, ( who did it "his own way", and was basically correct,, but was still Out there ! ) In the 70's and the 80's it was... No rules at a lot of places.... You have a cessna? you have a couple of rigs? you have a pilot and a a place with a runway???? Then you Had a "Skydiving School"
