I know I'm not alone in saying this, but I haven't slept very much in the last week because I can't get the picture out of my head, I had an ambulance behind me in traffic the other day and my skin started to crawl. I know this will pass, its just that the more I hear, read, and talk to other people about Raff, the more I realize that to say we lost someone special, really doesn't do him justice. I didn't know Raff all that well, actually I had just met him that Saturday. Long enough to introduce ourselves. He was looking forward to kicking off a great season. Unfortunately I saw what happened to Raff that Saturday night, and as horrible as the event was, I still marvel at the inner strength and fortitude that came from Raff during the incident. I was also one of the many to stay with him until the paramedics arrived. The whole time we were telling him it wasn't that bad, and trying to comfort him, all he could say was to take care of Alexas. I feel she should know that.................................... My deepest condolences to Alexas and Raff's family, I hope that I may have the chance to meet you at the memorial as I regretably and sadly am unable attend the funeral. I was the big dude in the blue and black FF jumpsuit. I was doing a lot of 3 and 4 way HD's that Chris Lynch was putting together, and trying to jump with new people. Got pretty cool video of this girl Abby's first chopper jump and other freefly foolishness (funneled hybrids, reversed rodeos, and the like). Maybe next time we can get together and jump. I wasn't really in the mood to jump on Sunday either, so I left early. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!

From my experience, I have somwwhere in the neighborhood of 75 or so "pro" coach jumps, and I have found that I get the most "mental" from pros. Mental being relaxation, focusing, and visualizing techniques. Consider that you grind breathing, body position, awareness, and the other physical attributes of freeflying into your head on the ground (some of this can get pretty creative). While your in the air for 50-60 seconds, your coach takes note of what you are or more importanatly are not doing (hopefully on video) and tries to give you fine tuning with hand signals. Once on the ground it's video review, more body positioning and posturing (arms down, feet in, legs strong, breath deeply, relax, lean back, breath, etc), and then works your strengths and weeknesses into the next jump. Having said all of this, I think understanding the physics of freeflying is important, but communicating that information is paramount. Especially if you want to stay safe, knowing how to stay safe does no good if one can not explain how to stay safe. I've been pretty fortunate to coach with some of the best in the biz, but where the learning curve really kicks is in taking what you learn with the coach and flying it with peope of similar skill level (or preferably higher skill level) on a regular basis (currency applies here too). Personally I waited until whichever coach I was with expressed that he thought I could safely fly (head down, sit, mirrors, etc) with others. I also took care to explain to other freeflers my current skill level along with whatever quirks I had discoverd while coaching (backsliding, orbiting, driving, unstableness with docks, and whatever else). Since most of us can't afford a fulltime freefly coach, I think peer coaching with some intelligence is an invaluable learning tool as it allows you to apply what you have learned with your coach on a day to day (or weekend to weekend) basis. I haven't met anyone that got better by not practicing what they have learned. Oh yeah, if you have a pro that wants to make a fun jump with you, GO and GO again if ya can, you can't help but learn. I'm there and stuff, I just have to figure out how to get the weekend off. I feel a case of the Freefly Flu coming on, that shit starts about a month out doesn't it, strong feelings of not wanting to work, and boss go fuck yoursefitetis. A word of advice for choosing a school. There have been a few schools over the last 5 - 10 years, which have been busted by the FAA for sub standard practices "feeding answers". When these schools lost their cert, so did the all the mechnics who had recieved their license betweenv specific dates. Something to the tune of 3,500 mechanics lost license and tuition money, and had to start over again from scratch. I am an A&P for a major airline, the money's not bad and the flight benefits kick ass. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!

It was the fucked upest thing, Tyler knocked on my door this morning, and tells me there is blue skies, and let's go. I stepped out the back door, and there they were, blue skies, got my shit together, stepped out the front door, and there it was, clouds .............. everywhere. What the fuck over. We actually had eight jumpers committed which as you all know is enough to send the Otter. Next Thursday dammit......gimme 2500 ft and a plane.
