Indoor vs. Outdoor tunnel time
Bodyflight.Net replied to lightningbugirl's topic in Safety and Training
I was saying that if someone has a tendancy to hit the walls, then that person will probably fall out in a outdoor tunnel without walls. Once you have learned not to fall out (or hit walls) then it shouldn't matter much either way.. indoor/outdoor or walls/no walls.. another thing is there is no PRESSURE on your body in an outdoor tunnel (no designes we've encountered yet anyway) -
Indoor vs. Outdoor tunnel time
Bodyflight.Net replied to lightningbugirl's topic in Safety and Training
It certainly is a consideration.. however I have always failed to see how this reflects on the quality of the tunnel.. if you hit the walls at an enclosed tunnel, you will fall out. If you can fly in the middle of the column, the walls should be irrelevant. However, in the case of the exisiting outdoor facility that is competitive.. the cost of time/coaching is half of that at the orlando facility (not sure about Perris but I don't think it's cheaper than orlando) So the short answer is yes, but the long answer is no.. as your skill builds you will only exit when you want to. -
Indoor vs. Outdoor tunnel time
Bodyflight.Net replied to lightningbugirl's topic in Safety and Training
On personal opinion only.. I like flying outside.. it feels better and less 'closed in' for lack of a better term. Until recently there hasn't been an outdoor tunnel that was fast, large diameter and quiet. Meaning the 'traditional' notion of an outdoor tunnel is a propeller driven machine that you tote around behind a semi.. This is what many associate with an 'outdoor' tunnel. It's not necessarily that way anymore, and so hopefully, flying outdoors will get a fair chance. There is nothing like looking all around you and seeing nothing but sky.. to include clouds in spotting, to watch the hawks fly overhead (I always wonder what they are thinking). No doors, no windows, just me, the air and well, that's it. There's nothing like it. edited to add: and the photos & videos come out so much nicer outside, in the sunlight. -
Good to see you on dz.com Paul... everyone is anxious for news, so keep us posted!

too funny. it does have a porch on it now.. which I didn't include in the pic.. but the addition, is like adding another one of these right ontop of the other.. it'll be fun.. gotta an OK view of the mountains & valley too.. that's probably the best part

Where to go for AFF: SDU, Deland, Zhills, ETC
Bodyflight.Net replied to Terminal-V's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It's apparent to me that interjecting your opinion into my responses and attempting to correct me has become a sport to you over the last few months. A nice paragraph with your own opinions & thoughts addressed directly to the person with the questions would've been much more appreciated. -
The whole reason I learned to type was because of the sound that a typewriter makes.. I miss it.. the sound itself would encourage me to type faster and faster.. had it not been for that, I probably wouldn't be the blazing speed typist that I am. I wish I had one now... I might go find one at a pawn shop.. I prefer to write books/short stories on the typewriter.. that would be fun to do again. thanks for the idea!

Where to go for AFF: SDU, Deland, Zhills, ETC
Bodyflight.Net replied to Terminal-V's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hi Mike, Let me address some of your questions. SDU vs. Skydive DeLand.. this is interesting since SDU is at Skydive DeLand. Rob Laidlaw, SDU Head Honcho is very passionate about skydiving and the University is an excellent way to learn to become a great skydiver. Is it worth the extra $500, I would say Yes.. with the added training & time spent with instruction, and with a little tunnel time, the SDU course becomes an all around experience and a great way to get started. added: you'll be surrounded by jumpers of all levels training & learning, manufacturers doing demos, canopy classes ongoing, plus see team training. it's a whole experience @ deland. Zhills & SD DeLand are really so similar, the only real difference I can see between the two from a student perspective is that DeLand is a full time student & learning environment and Zhills has more experienced/solo jumpers. Also the Landing area in DeLand (although shrinking each year) is much larger for students and has a great many markers & guides built into the layout to help students. You'll also be likely to get a larger variety of aircraft at DeLand, but both have a wonderful fleet. They are both pretty equal really so either way, your in the hub of it all. Good luck!! -
Used to belong... never have given up on some of the life lessons I learned. "The road to success is always under construction" "The only difference between stumbling blocks and stepping stones, is how we use them" and finally "Detach from difficult personalities" words to live by

Would you sell your rig to get out of a bad situation?
Bodyflight.Net replied to kai2k1's topic in The Bonfire
I've had to contemplate this recently. I've barely owned it a year, spent everything I shouldn't have on it and haven't even been able to jump it yet! BUT I still can't sell it.. sold almost everything else I owned though... it would have to be pretty bad, besides.. selling something so special to me.. for just a couple of grand.. couldn't possibly be worth it edited to add: although, I did pull it apart and sell my AAD since I wasn't going to be jumping a while.. that part is easily replaceable.. -
So sorry to hear that....but yes, they are selective for sure, I was sweating approval when I signed up some months ago, but no obscene members/posts on our site so, no problem. There are other ways.. you'll find them, specially now that you have time! That's what I wanted to do most, explore the "other" ways to bring in the $$ Little here, little there, really adds up. Keeping you in my well wishes HH Good luck,

Way to go HH. I did the same thing 1 year ago Next month. After spending 40 plus hours per week at the regular job then coming home to manage the 'Network' every day, just got to be too much. You'll be glad to know that it and a few side projects keep me in the lifestyle I have become accustomed to.

Consider this an un-official 'pre' release of information. the Extreme Bodyflight project will continue, although with a slight delay. They have teamed up with a friend; another successful VWT owner and will together bring this project to completion in the UK.

Closest is Maggie Valley NC, then Pigeon Forge, TN. The outdoor tunnel in N.Carolina has the good air for skydiving training for sure. My sig line has links to all the info for many tunnels to find the best one for you

Absolutely believe in Karma Have seen it many times

Never use it... I have found a well designed ad, more like a webpage and a fair price do wonders every time.

I'd MUCH rather squat in the woods or the side of the road than most public toilets, for sure... no problem with that here at all and that is because: Apparently you have also been fortunate to miss the STDs and Staph infections that are alive and well on those same seats. Do you realize that once infected with, let's use Staph as an example, it does not go away. Do you realize that a hair folicle on your butt or thigh is large enough to capture a staph bacteria and infect your body for life (razor burn, or cut, mosquito bite, etc)? It's a recurrent infection and manifests itself in a variety of different ways for different people. Its not about tender, it's about sentencing myself, my family, sex partners or children to a second hand disease because I pretended not to know these things happen.
