I just received this in my email from Rob Kampia "On September 27, Jonathan Magbie died while serving a 10-day sentence for marijuana possession in a jail in Washington, D.C. Magbie, a 27-year-old quadriplegic who used marijuana to treat his chronic pain, was unable to breathe on his own. The jail, unable to meet his medical needs, allowed him to die while in custody." Full Article Here:http://www.mpp.org/states/site/quicknews.cgi?key=8319 and somehow this type of war against our citizens continues

european influence.. ex: saying "smashing" as an adjective for a something great, not something americans tend to do, however with as many brits as there are in 'liberal california' I myself began to adapt after 4 years, which would explain that. ex: your sig line contains french and many more like the first example.. that's all, I hope I didn't offend you. yes I'm a registered voter too I will be voting for Badnarik

Hi Michele!

Marijuana should NOT be illegal. My main concern is not with the population but the excuse the government is using to obliterate our rights. The U.S. federal government spent $19.179 billion dollars in 2003 on the War on Drugs, at a rate of about $600 per second. (this is from the ONDCP) Someone is arrested for illegal drugs every 20 seconds, and nearly 50% of those arrests are for cannabis (that's just over a half million SO FAR this year for pot offenses alone) (again ONDCP) The war on drugs is absolutely a war on it's citizens, to even call it a WAR is against our constitutaion. A war against the citizens is considered treason. To go against the states is ridiculous.. I can't wait until Alaska shuts down all federal offices when the feds go after them for legalizing.. it should be very interesting. For those of you FOR legalization please take a moment to donate to the MPP.org Education fund.. this is a TAX DEDUCTIBLE donation and yes I have donated, and will continue to do so. I would like to smoke marijuana legally. However my main motivation is certainly the sick. My grandmother died suffering with nausea, pain & the lack of appetite certainly did not help. She should not have been forced to leave this world in discomfort & pain simply because the government did not approve of this treatment for her. If they can grow it and perscribe it to others in this country why not her? Sounds like discrimination and it is. 30 years ago, marijuana was legal. 100 years ago, marijuana was legal. The biggest problem I have and ANYONE SHOULD have with this so called war on drugs are the lies they use to support their methods. If you knew the truth, then they wouldn't be able to lie to you anymore. Do you realize the only reason they say it's bad is because the primary way of ingesting it is smoking it? They can't even admit that if it's not smoked, that it can actually be good for you. Children eating a marijuana cookie or muffin for breakfast have ALL BUT ELIMINATED the need for ADD & AD/HD kids to take dangerious drugs perscribed by our government. Do we care that these kids experience an entire day of being able to focus & participate in life without being drugged down? 16 people have been arrested for minor marijuana usage in the time it took me to write this post... End the war on our citizens, even if your not one of the "users" it doesn't matter, it's still a war on our citizens and it's wrong. Millions of families split up each year, children of these families live in an average of 12 foster homes per year, our children, our future, are the ones who suffer the most. Wanna boost the economy too? Legalize growing, 2+ million families will save thousands of dollars per year and have that much more to spend on shopping, vacations, etc. The average smoker spends about 6K per year in off the street, crappy and unpredictable pot.. yes that's approximately $12,000,000,000 per year. Seems like lots would be better if that money were floating around our legal economy instead of the black market. Wage Peace and donate to mpp.org How much better could it be to deduct a donation to a foundation such as this, who has brought forms of legalization to 11 states in the last couple of years?

No Kerry didn't propose it... This entire idea is based upon similar practicies in other countries. Yes, I can do with 10 hours less pay per week, and still live in the manner I choose, to enjoy more time with my family and to see many Americans rise from total poverty. Can most of America? I'm sure not without alot of whining about having to live some type of lesser quality of life, but they will adjust.. are you saying we can possibly make change without changing? Are you not willing to sacrifice for the common good? When a project takes longer than 30 hours? The same thing that happens now, only there will be more people who are employed, and therefore less stress and no overtime since there would be plenty of workers to go around. It's ok that you don't like it, that's the beauty of our democracy.. we can completely disagree on how to do things and it all comes down to how who we vote for actually does it. Thanks for your opinions.

Hi Jib, It's my understanding after listening and reading further into Kerry's ideas, that he will find the funding, by stopping the waste. We send money, and spend money in a great many areas that are unnecessary. Our financial interests are so scattered that in fact we are wasting money in areas that are LESS important and if we redirect our focus to the areas that are MORE important, we can regain some financial control. Listen I was happy to get my tax refund check and all, but I too would GLADLY let them keep it if they would put it to good use. And the majority I guess will be deciding in fact if Bush has been irresponsible about his job. I think Kerry's plan is to try to "even the playing field" a little bit for American's.. perhaps it would be unfair to those "rich" people to have to pay more, but as a society, we do not benefit from having our citizens living in such a broad spectrum of situations. Fix Jobs and Society... to me, it's simple. Cut full time employment to max 30 hours per week This will put the unemployed back to work as more workers will be needed to complete the work week Families will have more time to spend with eachother, the benefits of this are too many to list here.. communication, bonding, less outside influence, quality of parenting, less $$ on child care, etc.. This will boost the economy a little, some people will immediately experience a small monthly loss, but it will boost because so many people will now be workign & paying taxes which in the end will be better for everyone This will reduce crime rates as previously unemployed families will now be able to move up in society with gainful employment and live in better neighborhoods, to me the benefits of such a small act of congress (so to speak) are infinite, and would afford our too busy society a chance to break and pay attention to our families, which so desperately need us and our guidance and mostly our time. I however am voting Libertarian, although i feel Kerry would be a satisfactory alternative to Badnarik. However, BUSH must be stopped, before he turns this country into his ideal. His ideas are bad for us.. we do not want what he has us headed for.. he may be a good Texan, but he's a BAD American President.

You were FABULOUS chicky!!! I was glad we could take you on your first flight ever!! It was good to fly for a minute with you while you were getting the hang of it and I must say that was the first time I flew with a first timer in the tunnel!! Does that mean that I owe ? Great picture too btw!!

Would you watch this execution?
Bodyflight.Net replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in Speakers Corner
I would certainly want to make sure that they televised the event overseas as well... however, I wouldn't watch it.. -

We have had constant discipline problems in school... after many years I have decided to basically relinquish my responsibility for it and give it to our child, who is now responsible for her own schooling (10 y/o) We did all this with a parent/teacher/v.p./student conference & signed a contract, etc... The last resort punishment for non-compliance in the contract is "Paddling" with a wooden paddle by the Principle.. They have to call us first of course and we have to be present, but oddly enough, since we all made this agreement... we haven't had many problems at all. I think school discipline is necessary but should never be carried out without a parent's consent. IN THIS STORY YOU POSTED the father OBVIOUSLY doesn't have respect for the school or dress code and his son has OBVIOUSLY picked up on that and has adopted the same lack of respect for rules. In this case the father should be ashamed of himself for first setting a bad example, second for not monitoring his child and making him follow the rules and third for blaming the school for taking action when he wouldn't/didn't. I bet the child has even LESS respect for the schools authority now.. way to go Scott Allison, set a bad example, then blame everyone else... what a lesson to teach a 12 year old!

Hey Zoter... only a couple of things come to mind... wear a suit thats a 'little' bigger than you would normally wear.. you'll need the drag in there. It's my understanding that Perris is slightly slower than Orlando. I'm not sure they'll let you go head down in there.. you'll have to check (or perhaps you already know) but it seems that the technique of doing a handstand in the air (on the net) while working on the balance in your legs is the best way to go to get started.. you can work on feathering out your position to get a solid feeling in your leg movements.. now unless your really that good or nearly there, you shouldn't be flying up off the net, just resting there learning to balance, and deflect air with your legs.. Recovering from this position at high speeds with those crazy walls can be tricky.. best to have them drop the air slowly until you can bring your legs back down and under you, then they can bring it back up to flying speeds. If you can find someone more your size to work with you, that is ideal.. although any coach will do.. someone your own size is better equipped to help you learn to balance your own body (same goes for any body size wether petite or XXL) Other than that.. have fun & be careful!! I'm not a professional.. but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express recently

http://www.opendebates.org/news/pressreleases/zogbypoll.html All I want to know, is where are the rest of the cadidates.. this rigged bi-partisan system will hopefully be taken down before the next election..It's obvious people want it... we just didn't make it this time around. ********** Did you know that Kerry & Bush had the same debate coach??? ********** Kerry was eloquent & educated. Bush is a good ol boy who OBVIOUSLY resented having to be there & explain himself. Bush said there were 100K troops already trained in Iraq (to attest to his progress with returning control to Iraq).. but forgot to tell us that 40K are about to be fired for being incompetant! That is probably the biggest OMISSION/LIE I heard. And why are we setting up military bases near the oil... no wonder those people don't trust us.. one day they are going about the life they know.. the next day we take over. Same basic life, different tyrant, and now instead of hating one person, a sick demented man, they now hate an entire country. (added: obviously some people want the new system, hence the voter registrations, but still these voters are still a small few of an entire country) Kerry is just idealistic and will of course come down a notch or two if in fact he does win the job.. but all in all, he seems like a better businessman than Bush. Bush acts like a parent to this country not a Commander in Cheif.. I don't need to be told who I can marry or what I can do with my body, that's not the job of the president, IMO and I will not vote for someone who thinks it's his business Wage Peace Vote Libertarian Badnarik for President

Wind tunnel - fear of height?
Bodyflight.Net replied to rainman's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I get a natural fear of heights in the outdoor tunnels when I get up to say 25 feet above the net level or airbags.. but the indoor tunnels are different for me.. I don't have a fear at skyventure because apparently when the flight area is smaller than 20 feet, it's something I'm used to seeing visually. (same thing at flyaways) It's like being able to know pull altitude without your altimeter.. you get used to the way it looks.. so you can learn to get used to the different heights using the same premise. -
I think it's a great way to get started sit flying, but the position you will use to successfully sit fly at vegas will of course be different than that at SkyV Perris or in the sky itself.. it's a great enviroment for getting started with the different orientation and you will come away with good 'head up' practice I'm sure. Vegas tips, pick a good suit with solid closure, also since you will be sitting while wearing a baggier suit, make sure that the length from crotch to neck isn't so long that the suit will hit you in the chin. Just remember to have a little fun while your in there too!!! Good luck! I learned to sit fly in a 'prop-jobbie' and the major difference when you get into the sky is really diggin in your heels and pushing down.. but that will come later..

Do wind tunnels cause outside turbulence
Bodyflight.Net replied to chutem's topic in Safety and Training
The is true only when the incoming air is not filtered first like in current skyventure units... Fortunately, not ALL open-circuit tunnels are that way. -
HH, a simple search shows how many tunnel oriented posts there are and of what subjects.. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=search_results&search_forum=all&search_string=wind+tunnel&search_type=AND&search_fields=sb&search_time=6m&search_user_username=&sb=post_time&mh=50 in the previous link example you can see that the names & participation is all over the board and in such a variety of forums... I'm not sure, but in my experience in life in general, it's going to be difficult to see evolution when education is so scarce and disorganized... Of course, I'm doing my best... Good luck with the HH decisions Cheers

I've seen many people head down, but all of them had loads of tunnel hours... I don't know, are you a tunnel rat too or primarily a skydiver? Can you hold head down at SkyVenture? Without knowing your skill I can't say for sure... however I CAN say that they haven't yet taken the tunnel up above 70% power and as such are only at a maximum airspeed of 128mph. Several people agree that it is as fast or feels as fast as SkyVenture's max, but at this point, if your mostly a jumper and have less than lots of tunnel time, I would say, hang on and wait until they get it up to at least nearly full power.. and then you will know for sure that if you need the airspeed, it will be there..according to the progress so far it looks like we'll be seeing at least 145mph out of this one, NOT that ANYONE needs that kind of speed out of that kind of air.. It shouldn't be too much longer, and if you like, I'll make sure and let you know when we pass the 135 mph mark! In fact we're going tonight.. so ya never know... Yes and Open on Saturday's... reservations info available through my clicky

I flew in 30 degree weather for a half hour, exposed face, normal suit... full face helmets for some will be great (and are available), but honestly, because your so active, you hardly notice the cold.. and unless you spend a half hour by yourself.. the cold weather is hardly an issue. And we flew through the last hurricane.. pouring rain... nothing noticable on the suits or helmet camera.. so it doesn't pick up and blow the water at you at all.

You were looking pretty good in there for your first time!!! I wish I had some film for when you two were flying together, it looked great, especially later at night like that too! couple of the pics from your earlier flight ps apparently Fuji film sucks..

Indoor vs. Outdoor tunnel time
Bodyflight.Net replied to lightningbugirl's topic in Safety and Training
This is only partly true IF you are looking for a skydiving/tunnel coach who can take you through AFF, etc.... The best wind tunnel coaches associate themselves with a variety of wind tunnels & disciplines, they don't limit themselves to any one in particular. They understand and utilize the values in cross-training. There are several dozen people who have been coaching in tunnels for over 10 years and in some case over 20 years.. long before SkyVenture existed. added: even though they might be harder to find, without a corporate advertising budget, they are still more than qualified and shouldn't be forgotten. -
