I disagree. He is there to teach algebra. If he is hypothetically faced with a classroom of students who do not have the knowledge base to advance to algebra, how can he successfully teach them algebra? I'm not saying this is the case, just showing that there are other possibilities besides him being a crappy teacher. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Doug, the competition to beat is John and Shanna's dog, Dusty... can you really top that??? -
What whas the degree of preparation of math classes in previous years? If he's stuck trying to teach algebra to a bunch of kids that can barely add 1 + 1, he might be facing an uphill battle. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Very well stated. I think you should come to the Pelt Head Boogie to visit Kyle so I can actually meet you in person. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

What skills did you work on after getting the A-license?
peregrinerose replied to chrismgtis's topic in Safety and Training
I'd recommend not jumping by yourself so much... you don't learn much in freefall unless you have at least one other person with you... you don't have a frame of reference as to exactly what your body is doing. You could be turning, orbiting, backsliding, and not know it. My mission in life, as much is possible around working as a packer, is to make sure that newer jumpers aren't doing solo after solo. I help them work on basic survival skills... tracking, fall rate, turning, etc, just in two ways. If they want to open high to work on canopy skills, that's fine by me. I've jumped with too many people now with with 60-100 jumps, 90% of them solos, that have no idea what their bodies are doing in freefall. You don't need to dive into 4 ways or freeflying or whatever, but find a coach or experienced jumper who's willing to work with you a bit.... you'll be surprised how much quicker (and safer!) you'll progress as a jumper. Most of us are quite happy to work with you on spotting skills or anything else as well in the course of the dive. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -

Health insurance and skydiving acidents?

My injury was pretty minor (wicked whiplash after hard open) and the insurance covered the ER visit. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -

Kids that young really do have a sense of gender. They may not be verbalizing it yet, but they are learning constantly from birth, socializing from day one. Just because they may not be able to form coherent thoughts on the subject or have a conversation about it with you doesn't mean that they aren't perceiving social gender roles. I agree Doug. Rocky Radabaugh, John Fitzgerald, Bob Atkins, etc are some of my favorite people to jump with there! Just look at Stan, he doesn't look anywhere near 60. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

As a little girl, you were probably acutely aware that you were a girl, it is your nature. These kids, though perhaps in a 'boy' body feel just as acutely that they are a girl (or the reverse for the girls who feel they are boys). They probably don't label it as transgender, all they know is that they are being forced into a societal slot that they don't fit into from a psychological perspective, they feel wrong. I thought the same way until watching the show and talking with my patient... gender identity has nothing at all to do with sexuality. Gay guys don't want to be women, they just prefer men as partners. Transgenders truly believe they are the opposite sex, and all that goes along with that. There's a difference between wanting a barbie and insisting that you are a girl and want to be treated accordingly. Those kids were all very vocal about their feelings of being the opposite gender. All of them were diagnosed by professional, not their parents. Adult transgenders started out as kid transgenders. Most of them just weren't fortunate enough to be diagnosed at a young age or couldn't verbalize their feelings at a young age. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I saw that show too... There was a LOT more to it than just the onsie, over the years. Every kid interviewed actually believed in being the other gender for a period of years, all of them had to struggle with their parents and the parents took years of convincing. All of them have been diagnosed by multiple doctors/psychologists. It isn't as simple as a parent making their boy dress like a girl. Imagine what it would be like to feel female and be stuck in a guy's body (or the other way around), and then finally go for living the way you feel rather than the way you were born. These kids get ridiculed every day, they have a very long, tough battle to fight before being accepted as they are. For a kid to chose that path despite the baggage that goes along with it takes a great deal of strength and courage. I have a transgender patient, and I can't even imagine what she went through to become female. From what I have read, the reassignment surgery and maintanance that goes along with it is extremely painful. Plus this woman had kids prior to finally getting the surgery, so the family psych issues can't be easy. She has my respect. I may not be able to identify with it or understand it, but that doesn't mean that gender issues aren't real for other people. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

That sucks that you've been cheated on multiple times. Though honestly, if I was picking the same kind of person who did the same kind of thing to me, I'd start questioning the wisdom of my choices not all men as a whole. (My history of bad choices was people who were physically violent toward me, took a while before it dawned on me I was just picking the wrong guys). Do you want to be lumped in with "All other women" by a guy who's been hurt by multiple women? Probably not. Take each day as it comes and take each individual for the person they are, otherwise you let the assholes you've come across dominate your life. Don't let them win. And to Ian... why do you think those of us that have admitted to cheating once feel horribly about it? It's not just for shits and giggles. It's 100% BECAUSE of what we put the other people involved through. What we did to the other people sits in our head for the rest of our lives and there's absolutely no way to atone for it. I know Chad's plan... if you thought last year's legendary Flaming Gay Cabana Boy was frightening, this definitely tops it. I can assure everyone that the little daisy dukes will not be part of the outfit though. No chance of anything hanging out and violating the nudity rule -
I agree. I never understood Mother's Day. A woman makes a decision to pop out a kid (and take on the responsibility thereof) and one day a year the kid is obligated to pay homage to her. I don't understand the point in thanking someone for making a self-serving decision... after all, people make the choice to have the kid, the kid didn't chose to be born.
