  1. Call up to Maytown... they do water jumps into the Susquehanna every year. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  2. She's beautiful! And must have a big heart too!
  3. I like that idea... going to start doing that. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  4. My husband wanted to know how to pack a reserve, but isn't interested in taking a rigging course. So I let him assist with my last repack. He thinks it's funny that I'd let him work with my reserve but not let him touch his own
  5. I don't think so. Ideally we'd all be perfect and there would be no problems. I'm under absolutely no delusion that I am perfect. If another rigger found a problem, no matter how minor, I really hope they'd give me a call or have the owner of the rig let me know.... how else can I learn and prevent the same issue from coming up again? Last weekend another rigger pointed out a cable housing that had shifted on my repack that needed to get put back. Took 2 seconds to fix, but I just didn't notice it. Though it would not have done anything at all from a functional stance, I appreciated being aware of missing it... one more thing to pay attention to as I try not to make the same mistake twice. I'm a very very new rigger with only a handful of repacks for friends and have only seen 2 problems, both minor, from previous riggers... nothing that would have made a difference in the function in the event of the chop. I didn't say anything to the previous riggers, only to the owners of the rigs. One the owner already knew of the problem before bringing it to me (bent pin). The other required a repair to be made (patch), so I had to point it out to them to get permission to have it repaired prior to the repack. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  6. You didn't make the wrong decision! Eloy scared the shit out of me the first time I was there... multiple planes flying, a lot more swoopers than what I'm used to at my home DZ, many more people, just the fact that it wasn't 'home'. I had a couple hundred jumps and still sat on the ground for a few hours watching load after load land and getting a feel for things before actually manifesting. The first jump, I just did a 2 way with my husband and we opened a little high so we had time to orient ourselves under canopy prior to landing, it also made us last down from the load, which alleviated our traffic concerns. We walked away from jumping at another DZ... Sedona. Everyone there was so nice and we really wanted to jump, but the weather conditions weren't ideal and the landing area fairly small. At our jump numbers at the time, we both knew we weren't ready for it even though other jumpers were in the air doing fine. Bottom line, you're normal
  7. I also use a protrack and protec. I made a little cloth bag to stick the protrack in, there's velcro sewn to it, and the oppsoing velcro in both ear holes so I can use either one. My helmet is covered in fur, so no problem hearing it, though I also didn't have any problems hearing it before it was fuzzified. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  8. They have to like me, at least tolerate my husband, be quick to forgive my blunders, and be able to laugh a lot. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  9. I would suggest watching the packers, find one you feel comfortable with from a packing style, neatness, care taken stance. Ask the DZ riggers who they recommend. Ask local jumpers who they recommend. Then walk over to the packer(s) and introduce yourself. Ask what the packing system is at that DZ. Let them know if you have any special needs for your rig. Watch them the first time or two they pack for you to make sure you still feel comfortable with them to pack for you. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  10. I'm jealous... I don't have a VT SD shirt I don't have orange, but will wear maroon to work tomorrow. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  11. Nope, he just spends more time talking than packing, so ends up packing 1/2 as much as we do. Plus he has the nerve to be moving in 2 weeks so won't be around much to pack any more We'll miss him. Even if he does talk too much. I had to use the phrase 'shut up and pack' entirely too much last summer! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  12. They were poorly written and weird, but not indicative of a killer necessarily. I've read far more violent things before. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  13. Yep, I was in Dublin... I was packing tandems most of the time. When the weather was crappy Friday, a few of us went to Savannah to explore a little. I have a hot pink furry helmet, you can't miss me
  14. Brian, do you have a beverage of choice? I plan on making a run to the beer store (or soda if that's your preference) before heading to the DZ Friday. How many jumps should I be budgeting for this weekend? Looks like the weather will be great too!! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  15. Hi. I don't know you. In fact, I know very few people on here. But wouldn't a better way to get to know a few people be to just randomly pick a few user names and PM them? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  16. I don't think a higher power is 'needed', but I also don't see a problem with using the word 'prayer' by politicians or newscasters. Even for those of us that don't believe in prayer, I can't imagine there are very many people now that don't have the VT family in their thoughts and wishing them well and healing. 17. Congrats on that A license! Hopefully the weather up this way will finally start getting nice enough for more jumping. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  18. Thank you for paying attention to the people around you and their gear and taking the time to make sure he gets the extra help he needed to not make that mistake again. It makes me feel better to get on a plane knowing there are people like you that care enough to pay attention to everyone else as well. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  19. I second that request... when it's done, post it here. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  20. Damn, where do you work? There are 2.5 packers at our DZ and we are all treated very well by every jumper there. They all know we pack well, we care, and we bust our asses all day long to keep loads flying and keep everyone in the air. We even throw all of our tips in a jar and every summer host a Customer Appreciation Day... last year we bought the DZ a very nice new grill and bought enough surf/turf, beer, and sides to feed everyone. 23. Kyle's completely delusional if he thinks there's a snowball's chance of any of the ladies removing any clothing at all for pudding wrestling There are 7-8 contestants minimum, and all of us will be fully clad!!! For those who missed out on the Cabana Boy Contest last year, and have an urge to enter, here are some pictures of previous contestants... JR, are you ok with it if I post the picture of you as well?? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  24. Yep, it was Jamie, that I talked to. He said he'd been in touch with all of the jumpers and everyone is fine. He told me he'd had about 30 phone calls about this and is feeling very loved right now. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  25. Rachel, I'll give you one guess as to which of our friends is the class cutter I agree, it's a sad situation. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
