It's just evil to taunt like that. I'm still at work for another hour. But in 2 hours... I'll be on my way to sunny GA!!!!!! ETA bright and early tomorrow morning. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -
If you have both cell phone and land line, get rid of the land line. Get rid of cable TV/satellite Turn heater or a/c down a couple of degrees, leave lights off unless actively using them to save on utilities Don't eat out Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I agree completely. It pisses me off how stupid and inconsiderate some pet owners can be. There's a cat that comes into my yard to eat my fish out of my fish pond, I've rescued a couple of mice and a bird from it as well. I pellet gun the fucker in the ass every time I see it in my yard. I don't have the heart to actually hurt the cat, but I won't let it keep killing things in my yard either. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I don't work til 12 today... it's why I get out so late. We're packed, I got the oil changed in the car (and vacuumed and Febreezed so you won't bitch about eau de dog). Chad's repack is done. We need to stop at the DZ to pick up the air mattress after we get you. I have directions printed and an atlas. Chad's going to sleep for a few hours when he gets home from work and will take first shift driving. I'll take over in the middle of the night when he can't stay awake any more. Mapquest says 12 hour 26 minute drive. How's this for completely hijacking your thread Oh, if I was your whore, your brain would probably melt in a puddle with all I would teach you.... you couldn't handle it young grasshopper. Girls suspended over 'Vagina Monologues'
peregrinerose replied to Armour666's topic in Speakers Corner
Did you actually read the description I wrote of the full scene? The part about the girl telling her story, being abandoned by the woman after that one night, and ending up in prison? I'm not certain how you see this portrayed as a good thing. Something that may seem 'normal' and 'right' to you as a child doesn't make it either 'normal' or 'right', which was the freaking point of that monologue. The confusion about herself and how the 2 molestations of her life (one consentual, one not) affected her profoundly as an adult. If you see any movie with Hitler in it, he's pretty happily condemning Jews to death and torture. If you take that one scene, quote that one scene, you can portray the entire movie about being pro-Nazi, even if the reality isn't the case. I know what it's like to be 8-15 years old and molested every day by another woman, so for me to be able to see into the heart of that monologue and be able to defend it honestly is a big deal. Child molestation is far from something I take lightly... but it is a part of my life 'story', just like it was a part of that particular monologue. It doesn't make it right, but it's a part of the tale. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -

I thought it was the word 'vagina' that was not permitted, but that the remainder of the text was fine? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -
We were told by our master rigger yesterday that as packers, we are not permitted to pack any Javelin without an RSL unless he confirmed it was removed and documented by a master rigger. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Girls suspended over 'Vagina Monologues'
peregrinerose replied to Armour666's topic in Speakers Corner
The play was not performed, only an excerpt from the play. I don't know what excerpt was used.... not all of the play is overtly sexual in nature. I agree that the entire play probably would not be appropriate for a high school performance, however an excerpt (depending on the excerpt) could be appropriate. I'm not sure what personal vendetta you have against the Vagina Monologues, but based on some of the things you said, 2 months ago, I probably would have agreed with you. But then I decided to actually see the play. My opinion changed. The scene with the 13 year old... the whole story is that the woman was interviewed while she was in prison. She was raped by her mother's boyfriend, then raped by the woman several years later, and abandoned by that same woman after the one night. It was a very sad story, not glamorous at all. Shitty things happen to people... that's the point.... bringing something to light is not the same thing as glorifying it. This is wayyyy off track here, but this thread has so many branches now it's insane. Back on topic, the girls' suspension is actually on hold pending further review, and Eve Ensler (writer of the play) will be lecturing at the school. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -
I also thought it was a lot like Crash, with the entwined story lines, and loved both movies. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

My first car was a 1988 Tempo. It died after 230,000ish miles. But the last 50K it was being nursed along by the guy I gave it to, who was a mechanic. 1988 S10 with about 170,000 when I sold it 1988 Jetta with 160,000 when I sold it 2000 Ram with 96,000 miles when I sold it 2000 Saturn with 98,000 miles on it (I bought it 2 years ago at 38,000!) still going strong 2000 Dakota with 93,000 miles still going well too I don't think I'm capable of having a low milage car I'd rather put my money into jump tickets. Agreed. An out of context line is an insane reason to judge any play... the same could be done of Shakespeare or anything else. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -

Have you ever actually seen the play? Understand the context of it? Know why it was written? Realize just how much money has been raised as a result of this play? A friend produced it for her college, so I drove 2 hours to see it. It was extremely well done, funny, but very thought provoking as well. There was no endorsement of pedophilia of any kind. The coochie snorcher skit was more sad than anything, though it had funny parts to it. The play was completely different than what I had expected... I went only to support my friend, not because I was actually interested in the play (though I admit, I knew little about it). It made me think. A lot. I'm not sure if it is appropriate for a high school play or not, but the play was 'open to the public', not presented in an elementary school, for crying out loud. If you don't want your kids to see it, don't take them. Seems pretty simple. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -
It's not 100% uv protection, actually much lower than that, which is the problem. Bigger pupil size would easily negate any positive affect that the UV protection of the lens has. Remember that these lenses are not made for sun blocking, they are made for contrast enhancement, two completely different things. For the right application, they are a good tool. Skydiving probably isn't it. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

These are not made to be sunglasses or sun tints, they are made to enhance contrast. They come in 2 colors, green and orange. Both are a fairly light tint and due to the contrast enhancing properties would not do much from a light sensitivity standpoint... they are made for sports, not as sun protection. I don't recommend the use of contact lenses for light control (with the exception of aniridia, iris coloboma, or albinism where there is no iris or the iris is transparent to light... and those are opaque iris contacts, not sun tints) just because you can't take them off in a pinch like you can with sunglasses should lighting change or you not want them there. Another drawback is that you get UV protection from sunglasses. If you have sunglass tinted contact lenses, your pupils are bigger, so more light is going through. Unfortunately, contacts offer little to no UV protection, so from a long term damage to the eye aspect (cataracts, macular degeneration), you would be doing yourself no favors this way. Husbands and Wives Living Apart -New Trend?
peregrinerose replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
I agree. My first marriage fell apart after 3 years of the long distance thing. He worked 2 hours away from my grad school, so I'd live there during the week and come home most weekends unless there were exams or I had to work. When I finally graduated and we had a solid year together, we'd had so much strain due to living apart for so long our minor issues snowballed into big ones. It was ugly. I'm ADD- Need Simplified Packing Tips!?!
peregrinerose replied to somethinelse's topic in Gear and Rigging
It is 8 gazillion times easier to learn to pack when you have your own gear. You can do it at home, punch walls when you need to, scream and yell in frustration and it's okay. I packed my own rig at least once daily for months to work on getting more proficient with it. It was time well spent... partly from a packing standpoint, partly because I got to know my own gear really well that way. A patient rigger to work with you makes all the difference too..... they'll give you little pointers to make your life easier, like little lessons that you can then practice at home. So do what I did... left crappy PA in January for a few days in FL, then in Feb went to AZ, then next week, go to Dublin GA. I've only done one jump so far this year in PA! That was a 4 way from a cessna at 4000 ft for my 400th Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I'm ADD- Need Simplified Packing Tips!?!
peregrinerose replied to somethinelse's topic in Gear and Rigging
I have to differ with this. I'm 5'3" and pack tandem rigs without a problem... it's a matter of practice. Either way you decide to pack requires practice. Get together with a patient rigger who can help you learn in person and give you feedback. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
