  1. I love the definitions given by skybytch and quade but voted finishing AFF because that was when my last instructor took me in to the packing room and announced I was a skydiver. I have to disagree with buying your own rig only because it is out of the question for me right now. On the other hand I have made a commitment of X dollars a month on jumps and I am accumulating other gear like helmet, audible and jump suit. I think it is the commitment of doing it on a regular basis that really counts. edited to fix a typo. "Truth is tough. 2. [qute]I've made mistakes when I filed my taxes several times. When the IRS discovered the mistakes and notified me... Considering the odds against the IRS discovering an honest mistake this implies highly imaginative tax planing, "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  3. By revieling these truths you are doomed to spend your life womanless. Sorry dude. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  4. While I know my exit needs a lot of work at 32 jumps the process has become boring. I am working on getting people to work with me in RW so that I can become more proficient ona new skill. 5. Did you read it? All they are asking is that it be made auditable by adding a paper trail, something I think anyone should be able to get behind. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  6. In one of the political threads someone brought up that the Democrats are the ones who want electronic voting. While this group is officially non-partisan it certainly leans to the liberal side. See what they have to say. http://www.truemajority.org/ComputerAteMyVote/ Also when I briefly worked with a company called Election Systems and Services (ESS) in Omaha, NE the bitch from the very Republican head of the company is that the Democrats would kill Internet/Electronic voting bebecause it would be akin to a literacy test. 7. ... Are you under the mistaken impression that there exists a "plastic gun" that is made wholly out of undetectable material? This was the LIE that was circulated in the '80s with the introduction of the Glock semi-auto pistols. There was no truth to it. The guns contain about a POUND of STEEL, and even the plastic (polymer) frame contains embedded steel to stiffen it. ... I stand corrected. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  8. Your command of the English language is nearly as impressive as your sense of humor. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  9. Uhhh No. I never said that. Didn't mean to imply it either. I only brought out the first part of the ammendment because you did. To say that the National Guard constitutes the "well regulated militia" and it purpose as defined by the 2nd ammendment doesn't fly with me. That's all. Sorry to have mis-read. Why does a militia have to work for the state, why not the feds? The purpose is to defend the country. The mission of the Texas National Guard is stated as: "Provide mission-ready forces, responsive to the community, state and nation." "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  10. National guard works for the federal government and not the state. Precident already shows us that when push comes to shove (state's will vs federal government's will) they follow the orders of the president and NOT the governor. That however is for another thread. Do you believe that people should be responsible for their own actions? What about their own lack of action or preparation. ... So now we have the real issue for you. You are afraid our government is going to turn on the people. Enough said. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  11. Gun crime overall has declined so it seems that the legislation had an effect, direct or indirect. The thread is about assault weapons. I think "plastic" guns are horrible. Yes they can but a deer rifle doesn't have a 30 round clip. Yes a car can and that is why I support the lawsuit protection of the firearms manufacturers. The climate for tougher penalities was almost certainly brought about by the same people who supported this ban. I have said several times that the impact of this legislation may have been indirect. Economy went in the tank a few years ago and no increase in gun crimes. I guess it's really important to go after the most mundane and smallest portions of these issues huh? I am pretty sure we should ban black baseball hats, as I am sure they are used in the commission of a crime far more often than so-called assault weapons or firearms bought at gunshows... Shutting down any source of dangerous weapons reduces the numbers available for illegal acquisition. If some one comes up to me and says "stick 'em up" I am not threatened by the ball cap. My life is not in danger because of the ball cap. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  12. Can you point me at specific items or sections I should start with? "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  13. Then explain how a smaller magazine has a negative impact on you enjoyment of shooting? National Guard would come under the heading of well regulated militia. Should we disband them? Ah yes everyone should be packing the world would be a safer place just like the old west. However the thread is about assault weapons and I don't think it would be practicle for us all to have M-16s hanging over our shoulders. Absolutely agreed. I can't get a drivers license without training but I can get a gun. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  14. This is why I call supporters of the ban FILTHY SCUMBAG SHITWAD LIARS. No just playing with statitics like everyone else does on every issue. If the numbers went from three crimes to one crime that is a 2/3rds drop. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  15. I said I don't know. The ban was not the only part of the law, so were background checks. All of this together may have sent a message to law enforcement to be tougher with existing laws. I find it hard to believe that there is not some connection between this legislation and the drop in gun crime that happened over the same period of time. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  16. Another anti-gunner who makes his choices in ignorance of fact or reason. If you had read all of my posts here you would have seen that I am not opposed to gun owner ship. I have fired and enjoyed firing guns, just don't have a desire to own any myself. Re-read what I said. Yes a deer rifle can kill people but it wasn't designed for it because it doesn't hold large quantities of ammunition. It is not made to be particularly light weight or as small as possible. AK-47, M-16/AR-15, Uzzi all meant to kill people. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  17. We wouldn't want the constitution getting in the way. Damnit, I thought we had hidden the Constitution so they wouldn't trample on it. So sorry, here is the relevent bit. "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." Lets all face it folks that couldn't have been structured in a more difficult manner. The whole argument comes down to where you lay the emphasis. I prefer to put it here A well regulated militia, while the pro-gun faction put it here the right of the people to keep and bear arms. I've got no problem with people owning guns. I don't see how a 10 round clip diminishes the pleasure of firing the gun over a 30 round clip. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  18. Please tell us what you think that means? What is the definition of an assault weapon as described in the bill? Well I would gather from the posts here that the main points have to do with clip size. My personal definition is closer to rifles that are primarily designed for killing people instead of game. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  19. Does anyone else find this quote hilarious? So let's see, you can no longer buy "assault weapons" for 10 years and the crimes where people used "assault weapons" in the past 10 years have declined? Hmmm... I banned potatos at my house 10 years ago, so there has been a 2/3 reduction in potato eating at my house in the last decade. I wonder if that's because the only way to get potatos now is to sneak them in when I'm not looking. Gee, I wonder if the people who woulda used "assault weapons" just went ahead and committed their violent crime with something that anti-gun people think you can't "assault" someone with. Maybe we should call "guns" "boom-sticks". Then we'd have ZERO "gun" violence in the US. Well I find your interpretation pretty amusing. It seems to me that we reduced to presence a particular weapon or group of weapons and crime with that weapon declines. That implies that the law worked. But even more interesting are DOJ statistics that indicate gun crime in general has dropped significantly over the last ten years. Because of the ban or not? I don't know. Also about 3% of people who attempt to purchase a weapon have been rejected for various reasons. For instance: "* About 63% of the rejections were for a prior felony conviction or a current felony indictment. Domestic violence misdemeanor convictions accounted for 10% of the rejections; domestic violence protection orders, 3%." So 97% of people wishing to purchase a gun had to wait a little while. 3% who should not get a gun didn't, at least not legally. Or is the DOJ anti-gun too? "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  20. Just some quotes from an article. What I know of this bill I support. Background checks, assault weapon ban AND protection of firearms manufacturers from lawsuits. Now a store KNOWINGLY selling to a felon is a different issue. Assuming the proper databases are in place I don't think checks put an undue burden on anyone and it is a very rare occurence when you need a gun today and can't wait three days. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  21. It is more about voting against Bush than for Kerry. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  22. Well put "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  23. In this case the shooter is killing out of hate or a misguided sense of justice. If OSB where caught I would have no problem with him being tried, found guilty and then executed. I would have problems with a lottery to pick the executioner. You are right that on 9/11 OSB did effectively do the same thing as proposed here and US citizens were outraged. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  24. I realy hate to admint thins but for once I have to agree with JohnRich. This was stupid and zero-tolerence anything is stupid. "Truth is tough.
