  1. I should really have pointed the response at the original post as it seems that is what was implied in the article. Kerry shouldn't criticize the Bush administration because it encourages terrorists. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  2. So if a Democrat was president and was botching the situation in Iraq would the Republican candidate just ignore it for fear that saying something would encourage terrorists? "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  3. Great. And if my uncle had tits, he'd be my aunt. What's your point? Well you need to trace back through the thread but the point is it was damned close and things besides Florida played into it. They do. They have a mandate from the people of the United States to run the country in the way that they think is best, this statement isn't limited to the Rebublican party - it includes ALL elected officials. - Jim man·date ( P ) Pronunciation Key (mndt) n. 1. An authoritative command or instruction. 2. A command or an authorization given by a political electorate to its representative. There is nothing authoritative in loosing the popular vote and squeaking by in the electoral college. What GWB had here was a real need to live up to the "I'm a uniter, not a divider" statement he made. Yes I see definition two also but the popular use of the word is definition one. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  4. I stand corrected on actually taking a state but had the Green Party voters in New Hampshire instead voted Gore, or even just a little over 1/3 voted Gore and the rest stayed home NH would have gone to Gore and that would have flipped the electoral college. Also as that page shows Gore did win the popular vote. Any way you split it it would have been so close that neither candidate could have claimed a mandate, although GWB and the rest of the Republican party seem to act like they have one. 5. My middle schooler mentioned once that the world would be better off without people in it. Next thing you know Mom and I are being interviewed by the principal, a counselor and a cop and my son has been classified a terrorist with his own file down at the police station. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  6. It is entirely possible he looked at the lay of the land and said, wait four more years and this will all be well behind me, no W to contend with. Then he and Hillary can duke it out for the Democrat nomination. Had Nader not taken a couple of small states the results would probably have been different too, with or without Florida. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  7. No Kev that plane just happened to be loaded with a bunch of real men, one of those freak statistical things.
  8. While they don't make it very well known Shiner got bought by Miller a few years back which is why it is now available all over. Quality went down at the same time. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  9. Replying to the orignal post just to keep it simple. 1) Cleary this (felony charges) is a huge over reaction to what happened. 2) A 15 year old gifted (in this case really smart) student should have known he was treading on thin ice. 3) For carrying on as long as he did he should have been busted for something, but within normal school bounds, like detention for the rest of the year for being a dumbass. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  10. Nothing more needs to be said. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  11. Yeah? Well. MINE are bigger than yours. So there. Nyah! Bwaaaaaaaaahhhaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Ciels- Michele Well clearly we need pictures. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  12. And everything he said too since he did it so much better than I did. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  13. Sorry John you realy loose on this one, at least most parts. First there was reason to suspect, and probably suspend, the photographed students. Certainly a drug test after the photos would have been in order. Secondly a private instituition has, in my opinion, the right to set up any rules they want. If the rule is "no bue eyed teachers" that is fine because it is a private instituion. You show your objection by not participating in the group. If you are old enough to remember Anita Bryant and her problems with gay teachers you should consider this. I was appalled at what was going on until I found out it was a private school she was talking about. I still disagree with her but it is the right of the parents of a private school to set rules that wouldn't fly in a public school. "Truth is tough. 14. As another low jump numberer (numbering?) I would have to agree that safety and training answers really should be from far more experienced jumpers but in other locations like General Skydiving Discussion and here in The Bonfire I can see how these responses would be valid. Lets face it, who has a better idea of what an AFF5 feels like, someone with 1000 jumps or someone with 10? The advice can be completly valid too as they know what worked for them to solve the problems the poster may be describing. The problem comes when people try to answer problems they really have no experience with because they have read other answers to the same problem here. "Truth is tough. 15. Well I'm a liberal and I drink Shiner Bock so what does that do to your genearlizations?
  16. 100% perfectly average at 56%. 20 years ago I could have bumped it up a little on the dance question. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes

Love it. It gives you the freedom to get movies you would worry about the rental price on otherwise. I have seen some good flicks i would never have rented. Some stinkers too but I don't feel like I got taken when that happens. I sent two movies back today and expect the replacements by Thursday so it is easy to get your money's worth as long as you watch them within a day or two of arrival. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  18. At A license time I was still waving off at 4500 but it doesn't take long before that becomes a problem to the other jumpers on the load. Everyone here can say what they want about "doing what is comfortable" but peer pressure still comes to play. (BTW I turned 46 today so I am no kid easily swayed.) I now wave off at 3500 and am in the saddle at 2500 with my audible screaming in my ear as I consider 2500 my harddeck. Line twists at this point would get the requisite two attempts to clear and then yes I would pull the pillow and go for the silver. As to the main topic, you (cvfd1399) will soon be bored jumping alone, believe it or not, and will want to start RW or free flying. I don't FF yet because I am renting not FF friendly gear but the free flyers I know are realy doing RW-FF so you stil need to work on fall rate control. Get a big baggy suit and learn to hug the air. Edited for clarity. "Truth is tough. 19. The article at the second link is headlined: "DOD Misidentifies Photos of Columbia Crew Remains Arriving at Dover AFB as Being Iraq War Dead" Can you tell it is not a US military member being carried out there? I sure can't. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  20. Not to start a religious debate but if her office is a Wintel office then the Powerbook would be a mistake. Computer for yourself, well I won't comment "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  21. Toshiba "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  22. 170lbs - down from 200lbs last year. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  23. Tongue in cheek right? Not much of a threat if they are living in the 15th century. And if they have been happy living that way why do we need to impose democracy and everything else about modern civilization? "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  24. We are violently agreeing here. Let me phrase it the other way. To stop something you hate you have to vote against something you like. Of course you can make it known to the world why you voted the way you did but lets face it there are a lot of bills and a lot of amendments and putting out a position paper on each one is probably not going to happen. Frankly I believe that there should be a requirement that amendments have some substantial connection to the bill. No tax breaks for sheep farmers on a bill about road construction. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  25. The Bush adminstration did everything it could to foster the belief that Saddam was directly involved with 9/11 to the point that something like 70% of the American public believed it until W was finally asked point blank and had to say no they were not directly involved. But they used this belief to rally support for invasion of a "festering boil" that was of no direct threat to us. The WMD logic says we should be invading North Korea and the direct support of terrorism logic says we should be invading Saudi Arabia. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
