  2. I have tickets to the right show. And if the need arises, then WFFC is only a short drive away. I might do the WFFC one year, just to say I did it, but I'm not really a fan of such big crowds. I am going to both Rantoul and Summerfest! The whole "my boogie is better than your boogie" mentality cracks me up - I'm glad to have the options! ....Someone better tell Couch Freaks to reschedule since Richmond is the same time. Or better yet, someone tell Eloy to cancel Xmas since Zhills, Sebastian, Deland, etc have their Xmas boogies at the same time. This and "my dz is better than your dz" are the two biggest pet peeves I have in this sport. Would you want less options? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  3. I'm surprised there hasn't been any Jessica Rabbit jokes, or am I the only one that remembers Roger Rabbit? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  4. For now stay away from TMobile and Us Cellular. Sprint, Veriozon, Cingular and AT&T have the best coverage around. ALL of them have issues, sometimes it is the phone (not related to the carrier), and other times it is the switching software. I've had good usage from AT&T, however their customer service is now almost non-existant. Personally, if I had to change companies right now - I would go with either Sprint or Cingular. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 6. Yup, so now, if you go out you have to carry WAIVERS to be signed by your partner stating: I ___________________ certify that on the _____ day of the month of _______ at _______ [AM/PM] will have sex with Mr.____________________ and I WILL NOT CHANGE MY MIND during the sexual encounter or copulation. Sincerely, _______________________ Will they have those in Rantoul? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 7. Sorry Sunny - the pink is gone! The new rig is a J3 gray rig, with agua blue panels. In fact, I match now! woohoo!!! (think of your rig sunny, excpet blue where there is pink and that is what it looks like). If anyone wants that pink poptop/freebag its for sale! lol _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 8. Exactly, it was a student rig with a B yoke, and an adjustable main lift web (DOM3/94). Most people do not have them on their rigs, but there are a few floating around. If allowed you to change the length of the harness - much like a tandem harness. Unfortunetly, we lost a jumper in Miami when his MLW snapped on deployment - he had an adustable harness, and it appears this was the breaking point. After looking at my own rig, it appears that the hardware (much like the hardware on you leg straps) was causing significant wear on the webbing. The wear appears to be starting on the edge of the webbing and working its way in towards the center of the strap. The webbing was worn, the yellow thread was gone in a few places and you were able to see some green thread (?) in it as well. The master rigger/owner of Para Concepts Kirk Smith feels that it would not have broken on my next jump, or maybe the next few jumps, but it is very possible it would have in time - no one is sure just how much time that would have been, and he grounded the rig instantly (which Sunpath agreed with). Sunpath will be getting my rig to look at. A couple people asked me why I never noticed this on a gear check, esp those that know me as very annoying safety person. Several years ago I had a Sabre 230 as my main and the terrible openings it would give me would cause the lift web to slip upon deployment. I had a rigger tack it down so this wouldn't happen anymore. All of the wear happened underneath the webbing, out of site of a gear check. It is possible that tacking down the liftweb may have caused more damage than normal since the webbing could never move - thus forcing the hardware to cut into the same exactly place everytime. Needless to say the thougt of, what if I had been making a ton of more jumps, or done a Mr. Bill has crossed my mind a few times. I guess being unemployed and not jumping as much this summer turned out to be a good thing. The two nightmares I tend to have about skydiving (re:bounce dreams) deal with horeshoes and my harness breaking. **cold shivers** _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 9. Noticed today that AT&T extended their GSM coverage down I-57 all the way to U of I, but does anyone know if the GSM signal reaches the airport? I have two AT&T phones, a pure GSM Nokia (swapping the 6200 for the 6800 today), and the Multi-Band Siemens phone as well. Just wanted to know if I need to bring both with me. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  10. Guess I thought I was an expert or something after that jump yesterday. Took my exams.... I am now D-26647 as of this morning! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  11. Brian, sorry bud, I know how much that sucks. Hope your insurance covers it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  12. Yup, which means later on we will see an attempt labeled "the first completly unassited attempt....." sometimes in the search for a new record, we put too many labels on it. BTW, he is admitting he wants to be a skygod? hmmm...think he will be wearing a white jump suit? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 13. I disagree. I think he owes far more than that. He should be buying beer for every weekend he didn't jump a Cessna. How does anyone go 5 years and nearly 500 jumps without jumping a Cessna? That's just plain spoiled rotten and for that you owe lots and lots of beer. Perhaps I'll take mine at Summerfest. Ok, first off - when SDC is your home DZ, you don't have a chance to jump a cesna very often. I was grounded by my doctor this past winter and couldn't do the cesna boogie either. Every time I went to a cesna DZ I was weathered out. I was beginning to think the skygods didn't want me in a small plane! And second - just when were you going to tell us you were coming home for summerfest???? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 14. I need to get one of those free tickets so I can get to the lovefest boogie otherwise I will be driving to Tampa. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  15. the new rig wasn't planned - i just happen to find someone that was selling exactly what i was looking for after i found out my rig needed to be retired.....shortly after that happened, they pulled the cesna up and I asked the DZ manager if I could hop on it for a hop n pop with my new rig.....the rest is history _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 16. I'll get you one in Rantoul! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  17. My rig was officially grounded this weekend due to the Javelin SB. I had a DOM94 former student rig as my sport rig....and after my rigger looked it over, it turned out that it wasn't safe to go back in the air. Betzilla at ParaConepts chased me down to make sure I was safe and wouldn't jump it without having it checked out. Thanks for looking out for me Betsy!!! I will still get you some beer, it may not be a true save, but I look at it as one! HeatherB, Jerm, and Sunshine made a bunch of calls trying to find me a rig that I could jump at Rantoul this weekend - all three of them combined found me a bunch of options....I was working all weekend and had no time to make a phone call or check the internet and they did all the hard work for me. I was shocked with how many options I had by the time they were finished! You three are great friends! Thanks!!! Luckily I found a great guy at the DZ this morning that was willing to sell me a rig on a payment plan and allow me to take it with me to the convention. Thanks Jeff!!!!! (not sure if he is on here) _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  18. Skydive Chicago is my home DZ. They put up the Cesna for a single early morning tandem, I happened to be at the DZ early to pick up the remnants of my old rig that was grounded due to the Javelin SB. If it wasn't for that - I wouldn't have been in a Cesna yet! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  19. It was jump#450. I jumped a C130 before I jumped a Cesna! I loved the ride, I loved hanging from the strut, I was in there with a tandem and video guy, don't see why everyone complains about them. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 20. My rig was one of those grounded. DOM was March 94. Betsy, Kirk and Para Conepts did a fantastic job of tracking me down during the week in concern for my safety! As Betsy mentioned, it did have some wear on it - I put over 400 jumps on that rig since I purchased it used. I also had the lift web tacked down since it used to slip on harder deployments. Upon a typical inspection you could not see the wear since it happened underneath the webbing - if this SB had not come out, I doubt I would have discovered this. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 21. Just how much beer do I owe??? Made my first Cesna jump today (#450) after 5 years in the sport! Oh yea, it was on my new rig!!! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  22. G cards also do B - it is backwards compatible. The more Kbs is usually better - but it has to be compatible with the access point (AP). If you have a G AP and a B card, your card should work if the AP is allowed to have B clients. In theory, all G cards should work with any B AP. The higher the encryption the better - but almost any encryption can be hacked if you know what you are doing. You can also get a card that does all three bands (A,B, and G) which should allow you to work on any AP you have access/rights to. I went with the G card since I have yet to find that many A AP out there. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 23. This is the part you need to focus on... as others have stated you cannot just get one to have it, nor can you start the process before you are actually employed by the agency or contractor that requires it... So, do you have the ability to qualify for it? Have you ever been arrested? Do you assosiate with others that have been? Do you have money problems? Have you ever had Money problems? Do you drink a lot, or do drugs? Do you have an "alternative lifestyle" (no it is not a disqualifier, but if you try to conceal it you'll get ding'd)? Have you ever belonged or assosiated with "questionable" groups (commies, islamic extreamists, malitia types, etc)? Do you have a clean medical history? What countries have you traveled to? If any of the questions make you squirm, then you -might- not have "the ability to qualify for it." Josh Nope, not squirming at all. Well, the only thing I could think of is if they talked to people I jump with at the DZ and I have no idea what most of their personal background is. This may all be moot - I have a 2nd interview today for an inside sales position with a very stable (perk) company! Keep your fingers crossed/vibes around 5pm CST! Oh yea, did I mention that a great dz.com person set me up with this? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 25. Noticed yesterday that someone got their 400th jump in Maxim magazine in the letters section. Guy jumped solo with the magazine in his hands. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
