  1. This is also what I was told and read online. A civilian cannot just get one to have one. You have to have a need to know, and get your appliciation submitted by the contractor that deals with sensitive information. My secret clearance took a few months to get cleared to 'interim', while they completed a more thorough investigation. (usually takes about 5-6 months for secret, up to a year or longer for top secret). That is interesting - you would think if the "need to know" basis was on a per job basis, HR would not ask you if you currently had any sort of clearance. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 2. A few months back when I was considering a career change and becoming an ATC - I was told that the background check would take 6-14 months depending on how backed up the feds were. I guess there were a few people that lost their job after a year when they found some red flags. I never bothered since I was informed that I was too old at age 30 to work for ATC. Oh well. I am curious - what do they consider red flags? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

  4. Applying for jobs all over the place - and came across a couple today that asked someone with Top Security Clearance, or the ability to qualify for it. How does a non-military person obtain this, what is the procedure? Let me guess, if you told me, you would have to kill me? Any help or link to a web site on this would be great. Thanks all. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  5. Get me wasted and you can have all that for free. But the question is, will she bring the tubular webbing? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  6. Yup, pretty much what I have noticed the past couple of years. I'm guilty of it as well - usually not spending too much time in anyone spot so I can catch all that is going on. I know there was more than a few hours that went by that no one was in the DZ.com tent last year. I figured if everyone had an idea of where/when to be, we might have a few more people hanging around the tent when it comes time to dirt dive. Even if we only do a 10 way - I know it will be a blast! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  7. Well, now that we have the interest - let's start hamering out the details: Practice jumps: Sunday the 3rd, meet at the DZ.com tent. Need a time for this. Record attempt: Monday the 4th, meet at the DZ.com tent. Need a time - start early, say 10am? LO: Bill/Amy/Flyangel/FlyAnglel/ScottyC all have been mentioned. One or two of them want to step up and claim it? Ticket Holder: skybytch Sound good? Anything else? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  8. Agreed, tailgate chuncks are the easiest exits I have ever done, plus the divers usually can get out quicker so there isn't as much distance to travel. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  9. A couple people have PM'd me wondering if I wanted to do the LO. I think I will have to pass on this since I believe that someone else could due a better and safer job than myself. I'll help with the cat herding that seems to go with organzing bigways at a boogie, and will be willing to do practice jumps with all those that want to be in the base so we can work on fall rates. Not sure why the Casa or Skyvan wouldn't be a good idea? We could do a one plane shot with an attempt at breaking the record. Unless we have enough people with experience in a trail plane? Does a Monday (the 4th) attempt sound like a plan? Start around 10am or so? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 10. Yes, big ways might be an exception, not really though, because it's still your responsibility to not put your faith in someone who's going to hose you. Just like packing, if you use a packer and they give you a line over. Who's fault it is? Yours, for not packing your own rig. Big ways and boogies would be the exception. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  11. Great - it sounds like we should be able to put something together with video. How about we plan on trying the actual attempt on Monday (4th), and if needed some practice jumps on Sunday(3rd)? Gather at the dz.com tent? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  12. Consider me a shoe in for the base then. Rock solid on exits, fall rate on my belly from 115-150 (no weight vest needed). _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  13. Hmm...28 way? (guess this post made me an old hand as well) _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  14. Was discussing with someone this weekend if there was going to be an attempt at the convention and on what day? I was also wondering (for safety reasons) who wanted to be on it and what experience level they had? So, I'll start this list: Personally, Sunday and/or Monday would be good days for me. I have 450 jumps, best jump is a 2-point 36 way (also my largest formation), best jump this year is a 2-point 16 way. I have a few hundred 20+ ways under my belt as well. I'll take a slot in the base! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

  16. Best NOT over thumbs - can lead to a dislocation. Wear them over your palms. John is right - swoop cords can do some decent damage to your hands if you are not carefull. Wear them over your gloves, and over your palms. Also, never let the cords get too loose or they can work their way over your elbows....and on the rare occasion enough slack can cause a half-hitch and get caught on your jumpsuit, altimeter, etc..... _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 17. Looks real enough. It is for entertainment, so I don't care if it really is. Hmmm....so criminals can see them for free, but I would need to pay $75 to see them this weekend at a race track? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 20. http://www.cnn.com/2003/TRAVEL/07/18/sleeping.pilot.ap/index.html Accusation: Pilot reached snoozing altitude FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (AP) --A charter pilot resigned Friday after a videotape surfaced apparently showing him sleeping during a flight from the Bahamas while a co-pilot flew the plane. The man was the captain on a Walker's International flight from Walker's Cay to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport last Sunday. Fifteen passengers were onboard. The incident is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration. Neither the agency nor the company would release the pilot's name. A videotape taken by passenger Chris Ballard shows the pilot with his eyes closed and apparently sleeping during the flight. He said the co-pilot, who was flying the plane, noticed him taping the pilot and a woman taking photographs. "He didn't wake him up, so I wasn't going to get up and go into their area and wake him up myself," Ballard told CNN. Bill Jones, Walker International's general manager, said the man had been a charter pilot with the company for about a year. He said the man denied he was sleeping during the 55-minute flight, but decided that the videotape and the resulting publicity "made a difficult situation." "He thought it was the best thing to step down," Jones said. Jones said the co-pilot "reports that at no time was he aware that the other pilot was asleep." He said interviews with about half of the passengers revealed an uneventful flight and no signs that one of the pilots was asleep. Jones said: "When I see the video it looks very bad." He said the pilot does not have a lawyer. The pilot did not immediately return a phone message left with the company, which flies about six round trips to the Bahamas every week. Kathleen Bergen, an FAA spokeswoman in Atlanta, said the pilot faces sanctions ranging from a warning letter to a suspension or revocation of his pilot's certificate. "I would not assume the pilot is guilty based on news reports. We have to do our own thorough investigation," she said. Bergen said under FAA regulations, "when two pilots are necessary for a flight, then they are both required to remain awake, alert and performing their flight-related duties." _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 23. There were 77 friendly fire and "incidents" according to the radio this morning. I do not know if those are included in the numbers Bill mentioned. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

How much do you recall? http://www.msnbc.com/news/938823.asp What you don’t remember can hurt you A news quiz for the post-Sept. 11 generation July 17 — Online polls and surveys are notoriously poor ways to predict anything, but they can tell us something about how much we know about a certain topic. For instance, what have you retained of the swirl of conflicts, tragedies and personalities that became common knowledge — or at least fodder for television talk shows — after 9/11? Here’s an interactive quiz to see whether you have retained any of the new lingo and realities of the world according to al-Qaida, John Ashcroft and Donald Rumsfeld. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 25. As much as I don't like the current administration, I doubt this will happen. It feels more like the Dems are positioning themselves for the next election with this. Or just a bit of "you impeached our guy, now it's your turn." I do believe, and have voiced many times, that Bush mislead this country into war. However, I doubt that enough proof will be found to start the process.
