  1. Thanks! Oh, and for those that asked - yes, this is the same Rodney that was on the MWSL team Booty Surf last year. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  2. Cross-post from talkback. This Saturday Night a friend of mine was injured during a night jump. He broke his femur in two places (middle of the bone and up at the neck of the bone) during a no flare landing. This wasn't his first night jump and I think he has better than 800 jumps now....I did see his approach and landing - both were very conservative. He somehow misjudged his altitude and hit hard enough to break himself. It's not as bad as it could of been, so he is very lucky in that sense - and he is in good spirits. He had to have surgery Sunday Morning to get a rod and some screws in there - he is back home now. The recovery will have him out of work for some time, plus he has no medical coverage. Dr's want him to put no weight on the leg for at least 8 weeks. Team Funnel (which he is a part of - and one of the founding members) has decided to try to help Rodney (aka Sparky) thru this time by raising some cash. I was hoping that some of the DZ.com folk could help us out as well - we have put together a PayPal site on our webpage. Aside from the warm fuzzy of doing right by a fellow skydiver, you'll have a chance to win big!! If you're a skydiver, you could win a complete skydiving outfit! That's everything! This is the same deal we had going for The Make-A-Wish foundation (and it will revert to the Make-A-Wish foundation Monday, 9/29). There are still 3 -- count them THREE -- of these available! If you're not a skydiver, you'll win a prize of your choosing (other than cash) of up to $9000!! Pay off your car! Go on a cruise! We'll work it out when you win. (Make sure you read the rules on the Prize page) Just go to our web page and click on the HELP SPARKY button towards the top of the page. Tickets are just $5 a piece! Check it out here: www.teamfunnel.com So, please help out if you can! You guys rock! 4. Come to the midwest, you can see Mammatus clouds a couple times during spring and summer. Always funky weather, often followed with green skies and this big noisy thing. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 7. Have to agree Kris - I'm not a fan of the psycho pack. Now, I know of several people that have had nothing but perfect openings for years with that pack job...but there is always the exception to that rule. I do believe PD doesn't recomend anything but a PRO pack on the Stiletto. Remind me to show you my packing style for getting larger canopies in the bag when we ar at Zhills for the Lovefest Boogie over Xmas (ya know, where all the cool kids are gonna be ). I learned how to pack on a Safire 260 and a Sabre 230 _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  8. Wow - glad you are ok bud! You are going to be sore for a while, so I would go to the Dr just in case....nice job on spotting your own chop. I'd be curious to see what the graph from the protrac says when you finally get up and about. The first thing I thought when I read your post was....hmmm, must be out of trim - it wouldn't seem that at 250 jumps it would be so out of what that it would hurt you and the canopy that much. The only times my Stiletto 170 or my old 190 use to hit me was when it was out of trim.......OR, when I used to pull the slider out front. I noticed that my openings tended to be significantly harder when I pulled it out over the nose, and it seemed that the slider would not come down symetrical/even during deployment. This would cause the slider to not catch as much air, and slid down the lines really quick and often bury the slider over the tops of the large risers I had. I hope PD comes up with a good answer for you! Get better soon! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 10. "Be daring, be different, be impractical; be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary. Routines have their purposes, but the merely routine is the hidden enemy of high art." - Cecil Beaton _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 11. I just mixed the drink. At least i'm not the dumbass that actually drank it!! um, bite me? As CB said, no one should be mixing the two...therefore, my screwdriver shouldn't have had jager in it! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 12. Have fun Bytch! This falling stuff is all good and well worth the risk! Maybe I can convince a certain someone to make a trip to Sebastian to visit ya if the weather is bad in Zhills next weekend! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 13. Seriously - no NTFS - but that doesn't mean that a few people around me haven't had hotbar removed, ad-aware installed, and converted to NTFS :) Yea, I know, still no file level security on the server, but still...I'm still a geek at heart! doesnt he use NTFS in the server??? so what does he use?? fat? Well that would make sense if it was an NT server since all versions of NT server run on NTFS IIRC. But the environment on the user side is all FAT32 - and the ghost image comes with hotbar on it!!!! yikes! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 15. Bwahahah!!!! I can finally bitch about the IT support guys!!!! (because I'm finally not the IT support guy) Nothing but problems with the network all day at work - first the ICA Citrix Thin Client decides to stop talking to the server for a few hours, and now the Cisco IP phones decided they needed to "configure IP" for the last 15 minutes or so. Guess I shouldn't be surprised, the head IT guy doesn't believe in NTFS and doesn't have an issue with hotbar installed on desktops. I may have made a big mistake thou - I fixed the computers around me faster than the support team did. Now I have people bugging me for support, and the support team pissed that I overstepped there area and made them look slow. oh well,.....they are probably monitoring what I am saying here anyhow _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 16. Yea, let's get back to having people with 100-500 (or any lowtimer) jumps giving advice on canopies, hook turns, and wing loading. Oh yea, don't forget about giving advice to students esp when you aren't a JM. But, since the advice givers have a high PW rating, those newbies should listen to them IMHO. Those are always my favorite threads _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  17. Let's see how those AZ folk handle a nice hot and HUMID summer one of these days (yes I have had a chance to sit thru a nice 110F day - kinda sucked right around noon)....or better yet, driving in rush hour as a blizzard moves into town, or one of those -20F with 50mph winds days we get every few years. Honestly, I'd take the heat anyday over the cold..... _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  18. Try eight years of catholic grade school, and eight years in the seminary (do you have any idea the amount of theology classes I have been thru?)! Ya beat me to it Bill! Usually the Catholic Church embraces the duality of its teachings and tries to pass it on to the congregation as the point where your faith kicks in. Such as, Angry/Vengeful God in the Old Testament or Forgiving God in the New Testament - which is it? Actually, BOTH! huh? Don't worry about it, your faith will figure it out. Or even - the duality of Jesus - was he a man with the ability to sin and open to temptation, or born without Sin and the Son of God, or was he actually God? Hmmm........ What people tend to forget is you can still have faith but not have to stick to the belief that an institution teaches you. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 19. use it often - I run it once a week and find about 5 new "objects" a week. make sure to update the program as well. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  20. I'm sorry, I didn't get any Popups....how is it that they are selective? Even the pictures on that page are spyware! Some spyware will wait a certain amount of time to get a feel for what web pages you use before they start hammering you with popups. Also, some software will wait a while before littering your desktop with those useless ads, hoping the average consumer never realizes it was that cool little smiley program that is doing that to you. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 22. Yea Bill, we should just believe everything the White House says - how dare you think for yourself and hold those in power to what they tell us! How dare you use that freedom of speech. I mean, it was the White House that told us that the air in NYC was 100% safe after the 9/11 attack, and the EPA even agreed. Oh .....wait .....that's right, two independent studies recently showed that the air was no where near safe for 9 weeks after the attack.....when the EPA was asked about this they OFFICIALLY let the public know it was the White House that told them they were not allowed to talk about anything negative in the air in NY. Hmmm...but I'm sure the GWB administration had our best interests in mind when they forced the EPA to lie as thousands of people went about their lives thinking it was safe to breath in the air. So yea....I should believe Bush that Iraq was connected to OBL and that he had WMD. I mean, he wouldn't lie to us.....politicians never lie, esp the American ones.... _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 24. We had something close to this happen here in Chicago - but after it made the news, the HOA buckled under the pressure and removed their rule that you could only display one flag at a time, and that it had to be an "official country flag" and nothing else. The owner in question was flying an Air Force flag next to her American flag while her son was serving in Iraq. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 25. Take at look at the midwest today - I finally have a couple of bucks saved to make some jumps this weekend, and almost everything in the Central Time Zone is weathered in. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
