How do you burn an MP3 CD using Windows Media Player
ChasingBlueSky replied to Hp7900's topic in The Bonfire
Hahahahahha Damnit, I wish you hadn't had to leave so early during the boogie... You'll just have to go to Eloy to make up for the craziness and fun! Is there something going on in Eloy??? There should be a post about that. Nah, he is going to be in Zhills with the cool kids _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
Saw an article on the AP yesterday along the same lines. It said the world should be ready to see an Iraqi version of the Tet Offensive. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Yea, sometimes there is nothing more beautiful than being on the first load of a cold winter morning before the sun has had a chance to melt the morning frost. The view is amazing, and this is coming from a guy that hates the cold. I've also found that canopies open softer and the control is very crisp! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... You say die-hard. Us cold weenies say insane. I'm with Wendy. If it gets below about 65 on the ground I'm not jumping. I got enough of being cold in freefall doing tandems. I just don't need to jump that bad anymore... Mailin, you should be fine - the adrenaline will overcome a lot of the cold. Just bring your least bulky warm clothes and gloves. More than likely your instructor will have been up a few times before your jump and will be able to tell you how many layers you're going to need up there. Have fun!!

I have a $5 bottle of Mezcal (worm included) that I purchased at some little stand somewhere in a jungle in Mexico. Should I bring it? Think the TSA would allow it thru? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

It's never too cold, and don't listen to those weather wimps. Warm is nice, but if you are a real die-hard, you will jump in the cold as well There are some extra safety concerns with the extra layers and gloves you need to wear. If you do not dress properly the pain in your hands will be intense. I have jumped every month of the year in Chicago and tend to jump all year with gloves on so that aspect never changes. The coldest jump I have been on was about -30F at altitude...another poster, Kallend, was on that load with me. Once the ambient temperature drops below -10F your body can no longer sense a temperature drop. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Powell Declares Iraq Has No WMD and Is No Threat
ChasingBlueSky replied to PhillyKev's topic in The Bonfire
See, I'm rather curious to hear the explanation on how Powell can sit around and say this....then a few year later pull out that tiny example of what Iraq may have, in front of the UN as a reason to bomb them to submission? Please, I'm realy curious. Want to know the best way to defeat a politician? Let them talk long enough and they will hang themself. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
How do you burn an MP3 CD using Windows Media Player
ChasingBlueSky replied to Hp7900's topic in The Bonfire
Windows Media Player only burns in the terrible WMA format. Use Nero, Roxio sucks. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
DVD-A has been around for a few years - it has occupied a small spot at Best Buy, etc for a while now. I've yet to hear DVD-A, but it is supposed to give you the warmth of sound that is missing from CD audio. Do a google search on it - there is plenty to read on it. Is it here to stay? Not sure. There was/is a Super CD audio format it was competing with, but that seems to have gone away. DVD-A has been fighting for a market share for sometime and just doesn't seem to go away. The thought process is that CDs are bound to become older technology soon...so everyone is positioning themself to be the next big thing. Then while you are there, read up on blue ray dvd technology. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... All in the same breath I can't wait to finally see this movie, but I don't want the story to be over! That is pretty much the same reaction I had when I read the books....something this good will finally come to an end. Well, at least it looks fantastic from this trailer. Wow, has three years gone by that quick? http://www.lordoftherings.net/index_rotk_trailer.html Edit to add: Just noticed the HUGE army in the shot with the Fell Beasts diving at the White City.....about 70x bigger than the one from Helms Deep. Hope that battle in the fields doesnt take up the entire flick. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Soft Links and Excess Brake Line Stowage
ChasingBlueSky replied to geronimo's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hooknswoop is right on with this - NEVER stow the excess line over the top of the riser. Use only the method associated with that riser per the company...or have a rigger add a way to stow the line. I honestly believe this is one of those non-negotiable things when it comes to packing. I know of a jumper that stowed the excess over the top of the riser - the toggle couldn't get a full release, so she pulled harder and stalled out her canopy and spun hard into the ground, she tried to fix it real time and it almost resulted in her death - she survived, but was severly broken. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Question to Chicago skydivers (non-skydiving related)
ChasingBlueSky replied to vladavr's topic in The Bonfire
Lakeview isn't that bad of an area. I spent a few years living up on the north side, and they have some nice apartments if you look good enough. Since the area is pretty much over populated, some buildings have been divided up even more and the apartments are smaller than they should be. The best bet is to try to find a two or three flat - this way you get an entire floor to yourself. Usually these are you best bets for getting parking (street parking on the north side is tough, and impossible after a good snow). You may want to check out an area called Central Station - its a new area on the near south side that has been growing in the last few years. The infrastructure is starting to come into place as well (has a starbucks and a grocery store now). The plans for this area really have it booming in the next few years, and the Mayor lives there as well. Personally, I like the south side and close burbs (like Oak Park). I live about 4 blocks from Midway airport and rent an entire two flat with a couple of friends, the entire building looks great inside with hardwood floors, etc....however, we are still working on the extrerior of the building - plus parking is never an issue. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... One fun jump at Zhills (I think I qualified for a funnel fish, not sure since it was a borderline funnel)....I'm starting to wonder why they call it the Sunshine State - I haven't seen it that much while I've been there this summer. Either way, had a great time at the DZ. The Bomb Squad and the Hellfish have a way of making you feel welcomed

Cubs have been here before, they probably will choke again - just part of being a Chicago team. If they get to the World Series, then I'll shut my trap...until then, all they have done is prolonged the "wait until next year" speech _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Chmn of Joint Chiefs opinion of Gen Clarke & his flip flops
ChasingBlueSky replied to sundevil777's topic in The Bonfire
Mine! But those are more than just a play on words, so that has to have me at least at a 5th grade level! It's pretty easy to make the conservatives angry, huh? I may have to make it a new hobby of mine...kinda fun. Now, here is hoping that they put the O'Reilly Factor between Friends and ER...we need a much better comedy than Coupling there. Oh yea, picked up Newsweek last night and read most of it on the flight down to FL last night (between watching a really cool A&E special on HG Wells)....I found it interesting how Fox News took a good article (mostly neutral) and try to turn it into slander or a negative spin on Clark. There was a big W supporter in the seat next to me, told me how she is near the age of retirement and how tired she is of the political spin and she will most likely be voting dem for Pres because of how bad the current administration is and how she wished she didn't waste her vote on W.....it is going to be a very interesting election, and I for once believe that Bush will lose the race. Now, will it be Dean or Clark? Newsweek hinted, again, at the chance that Gore and Hillary may still run. Now, I need to get to the Discovery magazine article about Gravity - all the political talk isn't going to get us anywhere....the conservatives will hate anything Dem, the Liberals will look at both sides and make a real choice, both sides will call names....and in the end it'll be the electoral college and a few hanging chads that matter the most. Not all this bantering between skydivers..... Now, let's go jump. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Um, they didn't think they would need to do nation-building? Why not? You dispose of the leader, and the entire support structure, the public infrastructure was taken out on both sides, and you drop a couple billion dollars worth of warheads into every major city....how can you not think you would have to rebuild? Did they plan to leave it in ruins much like Afghanastan? They didn't plan on being there a year? Experts before the war, on BOTH sides, voiced that we would need to be there for over 10 years to support the country after a major attack. After Vietnam how could you not think the locals would get upset and fight back? We were there to help them that time as well. It's even worse this time with the different religions/beliefs in Iraq. Even some of us on here (once again, on both sides), mentioned how the war would be short, but the time there would be long. File this one under "DUH" for W. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&cid=540&u=/ap/20030926/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_us_military_1&printer=1 Signs Show U.S. Underestimated Iraq War 51 minutes ago By ROBERT BURNS, AP Military Writer WASHINGTON - Wear and tear on tanks in Iraq (news - web sites) is outpacing the Army's efforts to repair and resupply. The administration is scrambling to find thousands more troops by early next year. Stressed American soldiers are suddenly being given two-week vacations. Five months into the American occupation of Iraq, there are growing signs that the Bush administration vastly underestimated what it would take to stabilize the country after Baghdad fell in early April. Pentagon (news - web sites) planners had not expected that such a large U.S. force, now totaling 130,000 troops, would be required for such a long period — more than a year it now appears, rather than weeks. They won't acknowledge the miscalculation publicly, but recent developments make them obvious: _ Wear on tank treads and vehicle tires that has far outpaced the Army's ability to resupply them. Treads that normally are replaced once a year are wearing out in two months. Asked whether war planners had anticipated such heavy work for U.S. ground troops this long after the war, Gen. Paul Kern, the Army's materiel chief, said, "Some did, some didn't." _ The decision to require 12-month tours for all troops in Iraq, including reservists. When the 3rd Infantry Division and the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force conquered Baghdad in early April, those troops thought the war was over and they would be headed home in a matter of weeks. Instead they stayed for months, and their replacements will serve even longer. _ The disclosure this week by senior military commanders that they may have to take the politically sensitive step of calling up thousands more reservists for Iraq duty than was planned just weeks ago. A troop rotation plan announced in July included mobilization of two National Guard brigades. But that plan is being re-evaluated in light of continuing attacks on American forces and slow progress in getting other countries to contribute troops. _ The Pentagon's decision to begin granting troops a vacation break, leaves that began this week and are expected to increase in number. "They planned to pull the troops out quickly," said Anthony Cordesman, a defense expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. That plan was based on what Cordesman called an illogical assumption that U.S. forces would be greeted almost universally as liberators, that political control could be handed over to Iraqis quickly and that there would be no insurgency. "We never really had a nation-building plan," Cordesman said. Pentagon planners did foresee some postwar difficulties. They were prepared, for example, to deal with a refugee problem, with acute hunger, with a torching of oil fields or with an explosion of ethnic violence — none of which happened. What they did not fully foresee was the violence aimed at U.S. occupation troops and the other security problems that have hampered the reconstruction efforts and angered many Iraqis. An early indication that the administration did not foresee a long and violent postwar period was a statement made by Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld on Feb. 27, shortly before the war began. "It's not logical to me," he told reporters, to think it would take as many troops to keep the peace as it would to win the war. The implication was that once Baghdad fell, U.S. forces could begin to draw down as Iraqis took over more of the security duties around the country. It remains the plan to transfer security and other responsibilities to the Iraqis. But the looting and lawlessness that descended upon parts of Iraq immediately after Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) fell — followed by increasingly sophisticated and deadly ambushes of U.S. troops — have prevented any substantial decrease in the number of American troops on the ground. Some say it may have been beyond the Pentagon's capacity to anticipate these problems. "Military operations, in my experience, rarely turn out exactly as you envisioned them, without having to make adjustments," said Steve Abbot, a retired four-star Navy admiral who was deputy commander of U.S. European Command when it ran the air war over Kosovo in 1999. "Clearly there have been major adjustments." ___ EDITOR'S NOTE — Robert Burns has covered military affairs for The Associated Press since 1990. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
