USPA Membership Insurance = Gone March 2004
ChasingBlueSky replied to kevin922's topic in The Bonfire
I was hoping to contact AOPA on this, let me know if you talk to them and find out more. I'm already an AOPA member. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
USPA Membership Insurance = Gone March 2004
ChasingBlueSky replied to kevin922's topic in The Bonfire
Would that be considered false advertising or breach of contract? Would seem that they need to carry out insurance for each member until their membership ran out then. Odd that they publish it in the magazine that went to press over a month ago, yet the letter you got last week still talked about it. Either this is an example of the incompetence in the USPA office, or the total disrespect of the intelligence of the members. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... USPA Membership Insurance = Gone March 2004
ChasingBlueSky replied to kevin922's topic in The Bonfire
I will cancel my membership if this happens - I see no use for the USPA if this happens. I don't need a museum, a full color glossy magazine, or the fancy/expensive offices that they have. Publish online or go cheaper, stop wasting my money on a museum that no one will go to and just keep the lobbyist in the VA area. Move the rest to a cheap DZ space. Hmmm....wow, that was a simple way to reduce costs. Now, keep the insurance. AOPA will be the way to go. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -

MS Windows - Threat to to the Nation!
ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in The Bonfire
I wonder if these nations ever heard of LINUX I prefer AIX and SUN to Linux any day - but I fully support and endorse the GNU! But, they are not fullproof - go back and look up the MAJOR security flaw they found in sendmail earlier this year - it was so major that they were not allowed to release the flaw until they had the fix ready. Yea, this report was laughable for most in the IT world, esp if you have watched your entire company get shut down by a MS bug (or is that a feature?) or Virus. The are both Pros and Cons to having a common thread among computers and the software they use. I can remember not being able to open many documents in the late 80's and 90's because of the differeances between Word and WordPerfect (ah, the good ol' days of WP5). I can't wait to see what the bigwigs in Redmond say about this one! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Warning labels and what a waverunner is NOT for...
ChasingBlueSky replied to darkvapor's topic in The Bonfire
If you have ever seen the damage that can result from a jetski to these particular body parts, you would understand this warning label. This is a very real problem with waverunners. I had a guy on one of the talk shows I worked on - he was riding a waverunner around 60+mph in just swim trunks and a lifevest. He was tossed from the machine and landed butt first - blowing open his oraface and flooding his intestines with water at high speed. He literally blew up everything - surgery has not been able to fix it and his intestines had to be routed into a bag hanging from his hip. No joke. A wetsuit will help hold your stuff together and prevent this from happening. Look up the incidents involving these, you will find they are real. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... MS Windows - Threat to to the Nation!
ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in The Bonfire
Didn't see this already posted... http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20030924/ts_nm/tech_security_microsoft_dc_1 Reliance on Microsoft Called Risk to U.S. Security Wed Sep 24, 4:32 PM ET Add Top Stories - Reuters to My Yahoo! By Reed Stevenson SEATTLE (Reuters) - Computer security experts issued a joint report on Wednesday saying that the ubiquitous reach of Microsoft Corp.'s software on desktops worldwide has made computer networks a national security risk susceptible to "massive, cascading failures." The report, unveiled at the Computer & Communications Industry Association's meeting of industry leaders and government officials in Washington, D.C., saying that Microsoft is now the number one target for malicious computer virus writers. The report's authors told CCIA -- which is funded by Microsoft rivals -- that the software's complexity has made it particularly vulnerable to attacks. So far this year, two major viruses emerged that took advantage of flaws in Microsoft software. Slammer, which targeted computers running Microsoft's server-based software for databases, slowed down Internet traffic across the globe and shut down flight reservation systems and cash machines in the United States. The Blaster worm burrowed through hundreds of thousands of computers, destroying data and launching attacks on other computers. "The nature of the platform that dominates every desktop everywhere is such that its dominance, coupled with its insecurity, cannot be ignored and is a matter of corporate and national policy," said Dan Geer, a security consultant and chief technology officer of @Stake, a computer security company. Geer, along with other well-known computer security experts Rebecca Bace, Peter Gutmann, Perry Metzger, Charles Pfleeger, John Quarterman, and Bruce Schneier, said they issued their report to raise awareness of the risk to national security by using a single, wide-spread software system. The report's authors said the report was a reflection of their own views and not necessarily those of the CCIA, an industry trade group of Microsoft's competitors that has a long history of suing the world's largest software maker. But in response to the report, Americans for Technology Leadership, an industry trade group backed by Microsoft and other companies and organizations, called the report an attempt by the CCIA to exploit the "serious issue of cyber-security." "Cyber-security is an industry-wide problem that will not be solved by malicious finger pointing and political attacks," Jim Prendergast, executive director of Americans for Technology Leadership, said in a statement. IS MONOPOLY THE PROBLEM? Microsoft, which launched its Trustworthy Computing initiative in early 2002 to make its software more secure and reliable, said it is continuing to work with its customers and the government to make its software "as secure, private and reliable as possible." "Microsoft considers security for all of our customers -- from government networks to individual PC users -- to be our top priority," said Microsoft spokeswoman Ginny Terzano. "The widespread use of Microsoft products around the world means we are constantly working to be responsive when vulnerabilities occur." But the security experts said the issue of computer security had more to do with the ubiquity of Microsoft's software than any flaws in the software. The best solution, the report's authors argued, is to adopt a mix of different computer systems that will reduce the risk of a single security incident crippling a company or a government agency. "Having more than one operating system running inside your enterprise (news - web sites) would be a substantial improvement," said Geer. Bruce Schneier, a co-author of the report and chief technology officer of network monitoring firm Counterpane Security, noted a recent initiative by Japan, Korea and China to develop an alternative operating system to Microsoft's Windows to enhance security. "I wouldn't put all of the blame on Microsoft," Schneier said, "the problem is the monoculture." _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... How great would that be if the RIAA was caught using illegal/hacked copies of Software that has an EULA! As far as the cost of CD's go - at least one company has realized that $18 is way to much for 10 songs! I think Universal (now GE/NBC) is selling their stuff for $10. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I've left the state plenty of times - and when does a club stop being cool? Just because it gets old? Well, it's new again thanks to the construction - completely different inside...does the same rule apply for DZs? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Just like they did in Blade? Maybe the NRA is run by Vampires? Maybe guns are better than claws? I'm thinking that opening statement on how, the weapons and technology may have changed, but the war is still the same probably covered that issue? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... The New Republic magazine is not a fan of GWB
ChasingBlueSky replied to sundevil777's topic in The Bonfire
I have a few former co-workers that are employed by Rupert.....one of which that has a name that would be recognized by most of the people on here if I mentioned him by name. You should here what this person has had to say about internal memos when Rupert took over that newspaper, and internal memos on how there were now two conservative papers in town. Also, the first change to that paper was the H U G E font on the front page every day, less story, and more graphic pictures. The complaining about how conservative FoxNews is pretty much right on. Most people in the media will admit that it seems that news channel has an axe to grind. Now, is that wrong? Well, some think Rupert does this only to make more money. Either way - the news is being manipulated, which doesn't help anyone. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Well, power was out tonight - ComEd didn't know when it would restore it....so I went to see a movie. Underworld is a nice take on a Vampire flick! I'd say its worth the cost of admission. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

QuoteI used to think I was religious. Then I realised that there are SO MANY religions and a lot of them say that if you don't believe in them, you'll go to hell. So how am I supposed to know which is the "right religion"? Quote Well, if you listen to OBL or GWB their's is the correct path/god/higer power. Hmmm...how can they both be right? Oh! I know, lets kill a whole bunch of innocent people who don't believe and let the real god sort it out. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
