  1. I noticed in the article it says "they do not know who wrote the letter" Don't suppose it could have been written by a GOP member to take any steam out of an independent commision? Nah, that would be too much of a conspiracy, right? Nothing like that could happen in Washington, could it? This article is just as inflamatory and without any real source, just like that supposed real letter they found. Very irresponsible journalism. Hell, A FoxNews member could have even wrote the memo to help create a story.....but a station with a republican agenda wouldn't do such a thing, would then???? I'm surprised they didn't declare they found WMD, again, at the end of the story. Trace the memo, do more research and then come back to me with something a bit more real. Until then, this memo is not real news. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  2. It actually does. If you don't want to have a credit card anymore, just pay it off and cut it up and don't use it. Having a closed account on your credit report is a negative no matter who closed it (issuer or consumer). Now, if you're going to be making a 'major' purchase (read house), it's better to have an unused account than a closed account. Nice little scam created by the credit companies. Now, what did lenders do before computes and credit scores. No matter what the tables are tilted that ANYTHING you do lowers your credit rating - I deal with this on a daily basis as I watch my students apply for loans. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 3. I didn't mind that most of the movie wasn't in the Matrix, I did mind that it didn't focus on the questions it brought to light in the 2nd movie. While it was a typical "B-movie/Hero" flick with big effects, it was also about the human condition - the need, desire to survive despite the odds.....something that almost any sci-fi movie delves into (which is the only way I can justify that waste of time Rave scene). I hated that there was no story in the third movie - it seems like they took all the story for the entire Trilogy and gave it to the architect at the end of #2. They hinted that Zion may still be fake by what Morpheus says, they hinted at a lot of things but never answered anything.....which is very typical of Anime. I hated the fact that I needed to see the Animatrix and Enter the Matrix to get a better idea of what happened (Did you know Sati's parents are the one that betrayed the Oracle, and the Oracle's choice delt with the fact that Sati will help bring together both worlds?) They introduced too much in the 2nd movie and did nothing with it, which makes you wonder how much was planned out and how much had to change as this movie caused companies to go bankrupt. Somehow I wonder how much of what the W Brothers wanted to do was tainted by Hollywood and Joel Silver? When they pitched the Trilogy to WB, did they force them to put most of the story into the first one in case they never made the other two (much like Babylon 5 had to put all of the story into Season 4 in case they were canceled - then when Season 5 was approved they had almost no story left?) Did anyone catch the BLANTANT Jesus crucifiction reference at the end of the movie? As a reminder the voice (Deus Ex Machina according to the credits) says "It is done" (which is what Jesus says in the Bible when he is upon the cross) fullfulling the prophecy that The One needed to die to save mankind (remember that Neo in the 2nd movie said "it felt like death"). Neo went back to the source most likely - just like the One was supposed to, and he is probably in the machine now. More stories after this? It is possible. The W Brothers hinted that was a story to be told after this story, but it's main character would revolve around a "Neo type character" and we may see some of the original characters in that story, however they were not sure they wanted to tell those stories via books, movies, comics, etc. It would most likely focus on "the kid" IMO - if you saw the Animatrix you would understand why. I will see it one more time in the theatre - in IMAX just to see that Zion battle and rain battle again. The music in the rain battle was fantastic! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  4. One of my bosses in radio back in 95 left to go work at some wierd digital thing called XM Radio and offered to take me with him. I told him that paid radio would never take off. Bad call on my part... He explained that the idea was to offer digital quality radio with no "shadows" like you get in Metro and mountainous regions, which meant eventually installing repeaters in some areas. He explained that commercials would be introduced on the non premium stations to help increase revenue eventually. So, I would guess that the prices on the plans would change was the installed base hits a certain amount and offer plans much like cable companies. Content is roughly the same on both services - you can go to Best Buy and they have a pretty simple EndCap that shows the differences in the channels they offer and what you get for the price. A simple search on google also turns up a few web pages on both services. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 9. My flight arrives in Orlando at 10:00 pm. So expect to see me at Hirams sometime after midnight I think? By the way, I'll be leaving even worse weather conditions than what's going on in FL right now, so you can't blame me for bringing any bad weather. What is this Hirams thing? I'm landing at St Pete around 7:30p. Who all is gonna be there? Where is it? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 10. So.....say for instance, Heather and I rolled up late Saturday night instead of Sunday morning - are there possible last minute sleeping arrangments for a couple that doesn't have a tent? Last time I was in Sebastian I know I was able to find the Walgreens open and thats about it, I think I went two towns over to get a hotel room in the middle of the night. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 11. ANY of the caldera eruptions that could happen in the western states just scare the begeezus outta me... I mean we are talking apocolyptic shit here... and its bulging.. spilling water from the lake into the surrounding countryside.. that means the magma is on the move.... and when it pops... it will change the face of the earth as we know it. http://vulcan.wr.usgs.gov/Volcanoes/Yellowstone/description_yellowstone.html I was watching some program on Discovery, or one of those stations, about caldera's.....there is a scholar that spends his time trying to find connections between seperate scientific studies (he connects the dots). Supposedly he discovered a direct connection to the decrease in the human genome and the last caldera eruption. I'm not sure which worries me more: the massive eruption that could happen and the ash it would spew or the collapse of the ground that was above that bubble of escaping magma and the resulting earthquakes. It's interesting reading studies on the Yellowstone caldera - and the variance in opinions on how to handle it. I read one suggestion that put forth the idea to proactively vent it, the only drawback could be the triggering of the eruption! Guess it doesn't matter if it happens, most of us wouldn't be around for long to worry about it if it did. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 12. Dont sweat it too much ...yet. http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/volcanowatch/1998/98_07_16.html And more current information http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/volcanowatch/2001/01_10_04.html Another fact is that the seafloor topography around each Hawaiian island reflects large-scale underwater landslides in the geologic past. The seafloor is complex off the Hilina fault system, showing in places evidence for landslides and in other places evidence for huge, almost horizontal faults. We do not know if any submarine fault is currently moving, though a long-term GPS experiment by Scripps Institution of Oceanography may resolve this issue in a year or two. Kilauea has had no massive landslide in the last 100,000 years, nor is there evidence for a huge landslide anywhere in Hawai`i in that time. The chances of the south side of Kilauea suddenly peeling away into the sea are, in Dizzy Dean's famous words, "slim and none." Eh, no worries - the Yellowstone Caldera Volcano will probably happen first. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 19. So, if you donate to Bush you can get a war waged to help your business. Hmmm, I bet a few more dollars and re-election could help get rid of all those pesky clean-air rules here in this country Think that was inflamatory enough to get me flamed? http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&cid=540&u=/ap/20031030/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_contracts_2&printer=1 Report Links Iraq Deals to Bush Donations Thu Oct 30,10:51 AM ET By LARRY MARGASAK, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON - Companies awarded $8 billion in contracts to rebuild Iraq (news - web sites) and Afghanistan (news - web sites) have been major campaign donors to President Bush (news - web sites), and their executives have had important political and military connections, according to a study released Thursday. The study of more than 70 U.S. companies and individual contractors turned up more than $500,000 in donations to the president's 2000 campaign, more than they gave collectively to any other politician over the past dozen years. The report was released by the Center for Public Integrity, a Washington-based research organization that produces investigative articles on special interests and ethics in government. Its staff includes journalists and researchers. The Center concluded that most of the 10 largest contracts went to companies that employed former high-ranking government officials, or executives with close ties to members of Congress and even the agencies awarding their contracts. Major contracts for Iraq and Afghanistan were awarded by the Bush administration without competitive bids, because agencies said competition would have taken too much time to meet urgent needs in both countries. "No single agency supervised the contracting process for the government," Center executive director Charles Lewis said. "This situation alone shows how susceptible the contracting system is to waste, fraud and cronyism." J. Edward Fox, an assistant administrator at the U.S. Agency for International Development, took issue with Lewis' statement and aspects of the report. "It would ... be incorrect to suggest that there is no overall oversight of this process," he wrote the Center. "The USAID inspector general's review of all Iraq contracts which was requested by USAID Administrator Andrew S. Natsios on April 14th has shown that all Iraq contracts to date have been done in compliance" with federal regulations. The top contract recipient was the Halliburton subsidiary KBR, with more than $2.3 billion awarded to support the U.S. military and restore Iraq's oil industry. Halliburton was headed by Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) before he resigned to run with Bush in 2000. Halliburton's top executive, Dave Lesar, said Wednesday he was offended by criticism of the company's Iraq work but believed it was "less about Halliburton and more about external political issues." "As a company uniquely qualified to take on this difficult assignment, we will continue to bring all of our global resources to bear at this critical time in the Middle East. We have served the military for over 50 years and have no intention of backing down at this point," he said. Bechtel was second with a $1 billion capital construction contract involving Iraq's utilities, telecommunications, railroads, ports, schools, health care facilities, bridges, roads and airports. The company's Internet site says, "We do engage in the political process, as do most companies in the United States. We have legitimate policy interests and positions on matters before Congress, and we express them in many ways, including support for elected officials who support those positions. "We do not expect or receive political favors or government contracts as a result of those contributions." The Center's analysis of contractor political donations showed: _The top 10 contractors contributed $11 million to national political parties, candidates and political action committees since 1990. _Fourteen of the companies won contracts in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Those companies, combined, have given more than $23 million in political contributions since 1990. _Most contractors, their political action committees and their employees have contributed just under $49 million to national political campaigns and parties since that year. _In the same time period, contractor donations to Republican Party committees outpaced contributions to the Democrats, $12.7 million to $7.1 million. Many of the companies with large contracts have important political connections. Former Secretary of State George Shultz is a member of Bechtel's board of directors, although he has no management role, according to the company's Web site. Riley Bechtel, the chairman and chief executive officer, was named early this year to the President's Export Council, which advises the president on programs to improve U.S. trade. Jack Sheehan, senior vice president in Bechtel's petroleum and chemicals business, served on the Defense Policy Board, which advises the defense secretary on a variety of issues. Other contractors also had connections. Among those cited by the Center: David Kay, head of the Bush administration's search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, is a former vice president of Science Applications International Corp. He left the company in October 2002. Christopher "Ryan" Henry left the same company as a vice president in February 2003 to become principal deputy undersecretary of defense for policy. Scott Spangler, principal owner of Chemonics International, was a senior U.S. Agency for International Development official during the first Bush administration. The company receives 90 percent of its business from USAID. Sullivan Haave Associates Inc. was founded by Carol Haave, currently the deputy assistant secretary of defense for security and information operations. The Center's findings are based, in part, on 73 Freedom of Information Act requests and an analysis of a federal contractor database. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
