  1. You think quade and ChasingBlueSky and mikkey would ever agree with that? Never! It did show balls and concern for our troops. I think the Commander in Chief could show his concern and support a thousands other ways than a two hour photo op. This was just more cowboy bravado. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  2. I do nothing huh? Well, glad you are the expert on my life and what I have done. I can talk because I did make a differance from the time I entered 7th grade, up to the age of 25. I did a lot during those years on a full time basis, and now I try to do something when I have the time. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 3. So you want GWB to succeed, because he wants exactly what you want. I too am I liberal who wants the same things as Bo. Does that mean I want GWB to succeed? Sure. Does that mean I want GWB to be President? Absolutely not. I don't like Bush. Does that mean that I want him to screw up the country just so a Democrat can be in office? Hell no. Ditto. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  4. Same here. They want to see our efforts in Iraq fail, the economy fail and terrorism prosper just so they can win the election. I'm sorry - I don't want the economy to get any worse, I don't want any more Americans to die in either country, or any American by terrorists on our own land. I'm a liberal, thus proving your thought wrong. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  5. Hillary, Bush, whatever....it's all a publicity stunt. Both will use this on their campaign "When I was in war torn, blah blah blah....." Now, if they both went out to the front line to raise the morale of those troops, then I would be impressed. I've never subscribed to the idea that one persons life is any more important than the next guy. We are losing Americans on almost a daily basis between Iraq and Afghan - I find the amount of work and effort of security to protect one person sickening. BTW - think any of those troops asked Bush why he is cutting their benefits? Why their families are on food stamps back home? How much money did he waste going over there that could have been used for Medical Support for the troops, food for the troops, benefits for the families at home. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 7. [url]http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/11/27/sprj.irq.main/index.html[url] Bush pays surprise visit to U.S. troops in Iraq BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) --President Bush made a surprise Thanksgiving Day visit to U.S. troops in Iraq. After meeting with U.S. troops in Baghdad and the Iraqi Governing Council, Bush left Baghdad at about 8 p.m. Iraq time, or noon EST. Air Force One stayed on the ground for just two-and-a-half hours, the White House said. News of the trip was not released until the president's plane was airborne and headed back to the United States, The Associated Press reported. "You are defending the American people from danger and we are grateful," Bush told some 600 soldiers, stunned and delighted by his appearance, according to the AP. Bush slipped away from his Texas ranch Wednesday night at 8:25 EST, flew in and out of Andrews Air Force Base and landed in Baghdad Thursday morning at 9:31 a.m. EST, according to reporters traveling with the president. The troops, mostly from the U.S. Army's 1st Armored Division and the 82nd Airborne, had no idea Bush would be there, Reuters news agency reported. Without telling anyone that the commander in chief was there, Iraq's U.S. civil administrator L. Paul Bremer told the soldiers he was supposed to read the president's Thanksgiving proclamation to them but would instead defer to the most senior person on the premises, Reuters said. At that point, Bush emerged wearing a military jacket to great cheers, according to Reuters. The White House told reporters he planned to spend part of his Thanksgiving day calling U.S. troops around the world to thank them for their service, and then host family and friends at their 1,600-acre Texas ranch for the holiday. The president's daughters and parents, George H. W. and Barbara Bush, were to be among the guests. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

  9. Wonder which ones I have - landed my PD reserve at a 1.6 WL (my first, 2nd on canopy) after my mal. I did demo a PD reserve at Quincy when I first started jumping, and did some jumps under an old F111 7Cell as well, I've also jumped a Diablo, Tri, and Spectre. I feel very confident under 7 cells at almost any wingloading up to 1.7. A reserve at that WL is a very serious consideration, and it is NOT a WL for newbies. The PD-R flew like a Sabre/Spectre at that WL, and flared strong, but it was a really deep flare and it has to be timed right - doing the typical 1-2-3 like you do on ZP will get you broken in half. Turns were sporty and the recovery arc from deep turns was immediate. I could have stood it up, but choose to PLF just in case (it was an off landing). The PD Reserve is an amazing canopy -- opened fast and on heading after an unstable deployment. I have no desire to to jump any other reserve, but I am starting to hear good things about the Smart _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 15. http://confluence.org/ Here is the story I found on it: http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/fun.games/11/26/confluence/index.html New hi-tech extreme sport hits mark From CNN Technology Correspondent Kristie Lu Stout (CNN) --A new extreme sport called "confluences" is gaining followers around the world. High-tech adventurers armed with satellite maps and GPS devices are scouring the globe for "confluences," points where the lines of latitude and longitude collide. "We're looking for imaginary points," says confluence hunter, Richard Jones, standing on a pier in Hong Kong with other hunters, discussing the game plan in the search for one elusive point. The goal of "confluencing" is to use GPS technology to track down every major intersection on the planet, snap pictures and post the proof on a Web site called confluence.org. There are 16,146 confluences on the planet and less than 3,000 have been documented. "It's adventure travel to find a spot wherever it may be. On top of a mountain, or in a valley, or in a fish pond, or in the middle of a rice paddy," says confluence hunter, Tony Basoglu. Any place in the world can be defined by giving its position along the invisible latitude and longitude lines that circle the world. While many people use minutes, this game uses only the whole numbered degrees. The target of this mission is at 22 degrees north, 114 degrees east. It is the last unvisited confluence in China's Guangdong province, in the ocean off the coast of Southern China. Chartering a boat, the group speeds past Hong Kong into mainland Chinese waters, familiar territory for Targ Parsons, the so-called "confluence King of China." There are more than 1,000 intersections in the mainland and Parsons says he has hit more than 70 of them. Bad weather has prevented him from reaching this target, but on this mission, the team hit the sweet spot. "This is it," says Parsons. "It's just very unfortunate that the visibility is so poor that we can see absolutely nothing. We're only four to five kilometers from Hung Dong island but we can't see it." According to Parsons, this is the first time anyone has reached this confluence and documented it. So another confluence is in the bag, leaving just 13,000 to go. For this group it's time to document the finding and celebrate. If you don't have a GPS device, you can still join the hunt. All you need is a compass, a detailed map, and a good sense of distance. You don't usually have to go far since there is a confluence within 79 kilometers (49 miles) of where you stand. Just remember to document your finding in full detail at the confluence.org Web site. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 16. And take a step backwards? One word: Verizon Remember, number portability is here and CDMA is the prevailing technology in North America. Greater capacity, better coverage characteristics, faster data, better technology than any Time-divided/channel divided technology (GSM/TDMA/iDEN). Either way, your V60 is dual mode, so it'll scan analog if digital service isn't available. GSM is nice, but AT&T uses GPRS for data transfer. As far as I know, CDMA is still faster than GPRS. However, I haven't tested EDGE against CDMA yet. I have the Nokia 6200 (GSM/GPRS/EDGE) and the Siemens S46 (GSM/TDMA/GPRS) ..two of the best phones I have ever used....with the 6200 getting full time use now. I drove from Chicago toTampa with just about full AT&TGSM coverage the entire way. I'm thinking of eventually getting the Treo 600. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

See meg- in Indo-European Roots.] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- master·dom n. Usage Note: Master has been a productive source of compounds in English, evidenced by words such as masterpiece, concertmaster, mastermind, and masterstroke, to name just a few. It is also used frequently on its own as a noun, verb, and adjective, with meanings ranging from “an original document that is to be copied” to “a man who serves as the head of a household.” The latter sense lends the word masculine connotations, which, along with the word's associations with the institutions of slavery, causes some people to be offended by the use of master in any form. Nonetheless, many senses of master, such as the noun sense “an expert” and the verb sense “to make oneself an expert at,” have long been thought of as gender-neutral and are in wide use. Some compounds, like masterpiece and master plan, have lost most, if not all, of their associations with maleness. They exist as distinct words, and people do not usually think of them as a combination of parts each containing a different meaning. One bound in servitude as the property of a person or household. One who is abjectly subservient to a specified person or influence: “I was still the slave of education and prejudice” (Edward Gibbon). One who works extremely hard. A machine or component controlled by another machine or component. intr.v. slaved, slav·ing, slaves To work very hard or doggedly; toil. To trade in or transport slaves. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Middle English sclave, from Old French esclave, from Medieval Latin sclvus, from Sclvus, Slav (from the widespread enslavement of captured Slavs in the early Middle Ages). See Slav.] Word History: The derivation of the word slave encapsulates a bit of European history and explains why the two words slaves and Slavs are so similar; they are, in fact, historically identical. The word slave first appears in English around 1290, spelled sclave. The spelling is based on Old French esclave from Medieval Latin sclavus, “Slav, slave,” first recorded around 800. Sclavus comes from Byzantine Greek sklabos (pronounced sklävs) “Slav,” which appears around 580. Sklavos approximates the Slavs' own name for themselves, the Slovnci, surviving in English Slovene and Slovenian. The spelling of English slave, closer to its original Slavic form, first appears in English in 1538. Slavs became slaves around the beginning of the ninth century when the Holy Roman Empire tried to stabilize a German-Slav frontier. By the 12th century stabilization had given way to wars of expansion and extermination that did not end until the Poles crushed the Teutonic Knights at Grunwald in 1410. ·As far as the Slavs' own self-designation goes, its meaning is, understandably, better than “slave” it comes from the Indo-European root *kleu-, whose basic meaning is “to hear” and occurs in many derivatives meaning “renown, fame.” The Slavs are thus “the famous people.” Slavic names ending in -slav incorporate the same word, such as Czech Bohu-slav, “God's fame,” Russian Msti-slav, “vengeful fame,” and Polish Stani-slaw, “famous for withstanding (enemies).” Source: The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition Copyright © 2000 by Houghton Mifflin Company. 21. 'Master' and 'slave' computer labels unacceptable, officials say LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) --Los Angeles officials have asked that manufacturers, suppliers and contractors stop using the terms "master" and "slave" on computer equipment, saying such terms are unacceptable and offensive. The request -- which has some suppliers furious and others busy re-labeling components -- came after an unidentified worker spotted a videotape machine carrying devices labeled "master" and "slave" and filed a discrimination complaint with the county's Office of Affirmative Action Compliance. In the computer industry, "master" and "slave" are used to refer to primary and secondary hard disk drives. The terms are also used in other industries. "Based on the cultural diversity and sensitivity of Los Angeles County, this is not an acceptable identification label," Joe Sandoval, division manager of purchasing and contract services, said in a memo sent to County vendors. "We would request that each manufacturer, supplier and contractor review, identify and remove/change any identification or labeling of equipment components that could be interpreted as discriminatory or offensive in nature," Sandoval said in the memo, which was distributed last week and made available to Reuters. The memo did not include any suggestions for alternative labels. Dennis Tafoya, director of the affirmative action office, said in a separate memo that an "exhaustive search" had been undertaken to find all such labels and replace them with more "appropriate" ones. A form was sent to all departments to identify equipment carrying the labels "master" and "slave" or any other offensive terms. Faced with an avalanche of complaints from vendors and the general public, Sandoval told Reuters in an interview that his memo was intended as "nothing more than a request" and not an ultimatum or policy change. "I do understand that this term has been an industry standard for years and years and this is nothing more than a plea to vendors to see what they can do," he said. "It appears that some folks have taken this a little too literally." Sandoval said that he had already rejected a suggestion that the county stop buying all equipment carrying the "master" and "slave" labels and had no intention of enforcing a ban on such terms with suppliers. "But we are culturally sensitive and we have 90,000 employees," he said. "We have to take these things seriously." Sandoval added that in addition to the e-mails he's received "telling me how stupid I am and how I should be fired" he has gotten a positive response from some companies willing to reexamine their labels. In June, the Los Angeles city council unanimously passed a law requiring that any companies doing business with the city disclose profits they may have made from slavery in the 19th Century. In 2000, the council supported federal legislation seeking reparations for descendants of slaves. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
