  1. I was more annoyed with the very vocal/loud 18 year old kids that are of the "annoying, never shower" geek type that were all around us. I asked them to stop talking twice in the first 30 minutes....the third time I turned and told them they wouldn't want me to ask again....that worked. After the last fade to black into the credits the theatre sat quiet for a moment, then all broke out in applause. That wasn't bad at all _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  2. I won't need them when I am gone...they can take whaterver they need. You know one of the biggest things that annoyed me growing up? My mom telling us not to donate....her paranoid reason why???? She claimed that the medical staff wouldn't give 100% to save you if they knew you were an organ donor. Did I mention she is a BSN? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  3. It does jump around a bunch - but it is very easy to keep up with what is going on. During the last week I found out they used a different editor for each movie, therefore each one has a different feel. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 4. Well, I would have liked "The third age was my age, and Sauron was my enemy" and the revelation of the secret ringbearer....and they never mentioned that Sam was a ringbearer but I don't know if "Samwise The Gardener" would have fit with the tone at that point......and I thought Frodo gave him Bag End? Still, I liked it, I liked the rebuilding of the Fellowship at the end, and how he handled it overall. And Shelob?! Holy cow he did a great job there! Still not sure which one is my favorite of the three, but at the moment I would say Fellowship. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 5. Wow, just home from seeing it...... I always hated coming to the end of the books because this amazing story had to come to an end....and I had the same feeling going into it tonight. (Some Spoilers below) It's a fantastic movie....go see it. Is it exactly to the book? Of course not, but I have to admit, I don't miss the ommision of Scouring of the Shire.....but I did miss the lack of the Houses of the Healing...more thoughts to come...... What did you think? OH yea...the whuffos didn't find it funny when I yelled DOOR when they finally opened the theatre for us to sit down. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 6. With Credits the movie is 3hr 30min - roughly 3 hours and 24 min without the credits... Seeing it in a few hours myself. Now, if only this migraine would ease up and I could fully focus out of my left eye..... _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 7. Today is going to be a good day - I work for a Culinary School in Chicago - today is our "holiday" celebration. Nice big lunch for us, then our dinner gathering in the evening....everything cooked by LeCordonBleu Chefs (noice!). Then, off to watch the Chicago Bulls play the Orlando Magic (free tickets and free parking - noice)! Then off to the 12:01 showing of what should be Movie of the Year: ROTK (the tickets were purchased for me as a return favor for fixing a computer).....then finally my first day off in 12 days on Wednesday! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 8. That is a great laptop - and it is on the market under several different names (AlienWare is owned by the same company that owns Barnes and Noble, which owns a couple other laptops - they just rebrand them). However, I believe that monster of a laptop is called desktop replacement because of its weight and larger size. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 9. Just be careful, those things are dangerous!!! http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/54/28245.html Man burns penis with laptop By Drew Cullen Posted: 22/11/2002 at 10:00 GMT And now for proof that some laptops run hotter than a badger. A 50-year old scientist, previously healthy, burned his penis after placing his laptop on his, err lap, for an hour. Oh, he was fully dressed in trousers and underpants, according to this letter printed in the Lancet, the UK's best-known medical journal. (reg req'd, free.) The following is not for the squeamish: The next day he noticed irritation and oedema of his penile prepuce. Furthermore, the ventral part of his scrotal skin had turned red, and there was a blister with a diameter of about 2 cm. These findings were verified when I saw the patient 1 day later. There were no signs of phimosis or balanitis. The patient recalled that, while sitting 2 days earlier with his computer on his lap, he occasionally had felt heat and a burning feeling on his lap and proximal thigh, a sensation that was relieved at least temporarily when the computer was moved slightly. After the first 2 days, the penile and scrotal blisters broke and developed into infected wounds that caused extensive suppuration. More than a week later, the wounds were covered by dry crusts and thereafter were healing quite rapidly. No antibiotic treatment was needed. Thank goodness. The Register is happy that the patient was in such able hands, but disappointed in the lack of technical detail in Claes-Goran Ostenson's report. What was the make of laptop*? Did it have a desktop chip in it? Roll on Banias. The unnamed laptop maimer may have to change the caveats in its instruction manual. Ostenson notes the branding iron firm's safety instructions: Do not allow your portable computer to operate with the base resting directly on exposed skin. With extended operation, heat can potentially build up in the base. Allowing sustained contact with the skin could cause discomfort or, eventually, a burn." Don't trousers and underpants count? The 50 year-old scientist has learned a lesson, although we're not sure what. And we are relieved that this is not a case of objectum sexuality, most commonly expressed in sexual love for cars, but also a phenomenon among... owners of PowerMacs (they are nice, aren't they?). Here is a snippet from a recent Wired piece. That's when Mark realized it wasn't Bryan he fancied, it was his Mac. "Bryan, my cyberboyfriend, was in a lot of ways, my PowerMac G3, webcam and telephone," Mark wrote on his website. "He literally lived inside of this machine ... that I myself could control like a light switch. The perfect boyfriend." Quite. ® *Reg Reader Peter Dudek of Switzerland writes: Just thought I'd mention that by doing a google search with "Do not allow your portable computer to operate with the base resting directly on exposed skin. With extended operation, heat can potentially build up in the base. Allowing sustained contact with the skin could cause discomfort or, eventually, a burn" as the search string, I believe, reveals the mystery laptop brand. It's a Dell Latitude. The search pulls up a support website from support.jp.dell.com, that has, essentially, the exact same warning in the "User's Guide". ® _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 10. It was snowing here in Chicago last night - I found it to be beautiful the way everything looked. Too bad all the f*cktards were out driving I saw two accidents in 10 miles and one car up on its side. Why is it that someone will, for no apparent reason, just hit their brakes on the expressway sometimes? Esp if they are in the left lane and no one is in front of them? I'm ok with the snow now - lets see what happens in a month after I'm sick of the stuff. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 11. Everyone will ask for his life and have a 1000 ways of trying to kill him, etc.... The best bet? Humble him, make him live exactly the opposite life he killed, stole, raped and mamed to get....as far away as possible from the lavish life he was in. Whatever it is, it needs to be done by legal internatioal war crime laws. We need to be better than he was. Put him in a small, dank, poorly lit cell with no entertainment or pictures. Give him a job along the lines of scrubbing toilets the rest of his life... _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 13. Try opening your eye lids.. That is a good start... Rhino There was another attack this morning on a police station shortly before they announced they caught SH. If there was a victory, that attack would not have happened. My eyes are wide open, nor are my views myopic; you should remove your blinders. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 15. Why? I don't find this a day to rejoice. This is just part of the process, this is not about American pride, etc.....this is about helping a country get back on its feet, and I am looking at the bigger picture and the long run. I don't bite on "breaking news" anymore - I more concerned with what happens next. I'm tired of Americans getting killed in a country that we possibly shouldn't even be in....and I am concerned that GWB and those he keeps company with will spend more time coming up with ways to capitalize on the death of Americans, and use this as a campaign tool. I don't see victory - this was never about victory but liberation. I don't see mission accomplished because Iraqi's still live in fear. I'm proud of the dedication of our American troops, as well as the rest of the coalition forces that put their lives on the line to help with this rebuilding. That feeling and support is as strong today as it was yesterday before this capture - nothing has changed for me with his capture, and I don't feel more American because of it. When you are losing a football game by nine touchdowns, do you celebrate when you get one - or do you concentrate on getting another? Which is the better way to spend you energy and effort? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  16. Same here - which one? I do the most of my work these days from my Toshiba P4 1.6Ghz 256mb RAM over a Wireless G connection. There are over 10 homebuilt computers in my house over two floors. Anything from an old 486 up to this P4 and AMD Barton based systems. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 17. Kris, I've seen some SATA drives that can easily hold their own against SCSI - and have a smaller CPU footprint. The only downside is that you can have one device per channel. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 18. Oh, we can only hope. What a wonderful Christmas present for our troops. While they won't be home yet, this will have to be a less stressful Holiday for them, knowing their efforts are paying off and that this whole mess could soon be over. GOD bless our Military!! THANK you for an EXCELLENT job! We haven't even made a dent in rebuilding Afghanistan, and from the reports I have heard over the last week, we have barely made a dent in Iraq (partially due to the attacks). I doubt that our troops will be coming home any time soon - in fact, I can see the US having a presence there and in Afghan for several more years. You can't bomb a country into submission then waltz out less than a year later. BTW - guess this means our intelligence for that "Decapitation attack" to try to kill Saddam last year was wrong. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 19. I'm curious to see when the attacks will begin again. UBL has troops in the area, and the Iraqi's that are still upset about the lack of supplies, electricity, crime, etc will still wake to find those problems there tomorrow. We should get a better feel over the next week if SH was really organizing the attacks on the invasion force from his hole. Remember this is a culture that has been surrounded with violence for the last hundred years or so(if not more), and for most - that is the only way they know how to handle an adversive situation. Now, who gets the $25 mil for finding the Ace of Spades? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  20. I'm more happy to see the people of Iraq celebrating this event. That's the most important thing. I don't consider this an American victory, but more a victory for an entire people. Now the hard part begins - who gets to put him on trial, who gets to pay tax dollars to keep him alive, etc. This should all become very complicated esp with the mood some of our allies have been in recently in regards to our handling of things in Iraq. I also find it interesting that the timing of his capture happens just days after GWB apparently started his campaign for next year. You think Jessica Lynch was used for PR, wait to we see how this is used. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 21. Doesn't it rain in Seattle all the time anyhow? One of the main reasons for suicide up there I thought.... 0:0:0. Had to work today - will work tomorrow as well, and the next day, etc etc.....only 8 days to go before my next day off. Jumping....hmm...I think I remember how to do that. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  22. http://www.wired.com/news/evote/0,2645,61543,00.html?tw=wn_tophead_1 For Sale: The American Voter One of the nation's largest commercial distributors of voter data sold voter-registration lists featuring detailed personal information without verifying the identity or intent of buyers. Aristotle International used a website to sell the lists, which contain details about registered voters from nearly every state. The data includes birth dates, home addresses, phone numbers, race, income levels, ethnic backgrounds and, in some cases, religious affiliations. Although voter-registration data is a matter of public record, 22 states have laws restricting the purchase or use of voter lists. Yet Aristotle, based in Washington, D.C., sold lists online to anyone who wanted to buy them. "This was accidentally mislabeled at the Aristotle site as the Elections Code," Colopy explained in an e-mail. "Nonetheless, it is an accurate representation of the applicable law, actually from the implementing regulations referred to in California Elections Code 2194 (a)(2)." It's unclear how long Aristotle's site was processing unverified transactions. Colopy said the company launched the site three years ago to make it easier for clients to purchase their data in an automated fashion. But only authenticated clients were supposed to make purchases. Three days after an initial discussion, the company still had not determined the source of the problem. Colopy said the company temporarily disabled the automated feature to prevent further unauthorized sales. Any new buyers visiting the site would have to deal with a live person before completing a transaction, he said. But two days later, Wired News again was able to purchase lists on the site using a phony name. Besides a name, address, phone number and birth date, the lists included each voter's registration date, political affiliation, income range, occupation and whether he or she owned a home or had children. Ethnic codes identified voters as black or white (nine states ask voters to declare their race; three of them require it) and other codes identified Scots-Irish, French, Arab, Jewish or Catholic voters. A phone survey of voters who were identified as Arab on the list, however, indicated the data was incorrect. Aristotle also listed information about each voter's participation in past elections, as well as campaign and charitable contributions taken from Federal Election Commission records. Charitable contributions were divided into religious, environmental, animal-rights and domestic-abuse categories. see link for rest _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 23. Yeah, yeah, yeah......how often are you gonna see an overtime game-winner traveling at a blistering 3 mph?
  24. That's not a hockey team....the Red Wings...now THERE'S a real hockey team. The Blue Jacket fans are cuter, though.
  25. Phree - I am in agreement with you - some tweaking is needed - but they can be scaled....I never said they would fly the same.
