Another Campus Shooting--at My Alma Mater
ChasingBlueSky replied to ExAFO's topic in Speakers Corner
BTW, seperate topic, but did you fight against the Fourth Amendment raping this past week? Any info you have is now open to the gov't, so this is a weak argument now. I'm not for more laws, I'm for the right laws. See the subtle difference, it's a fine line but I don't think Politicians are smart enough to notice it and the NRA machine would never allow dicussion on it. This shit all hits close to home for me. Going back to Columbine where my friend and his wife worked/lived there and she worked on some of the victims. To the NIU thing yesterday to the Lane Bryant shooting where my closest friend and his wife live no more than 100 feet form the store. And despite all that I don't want CCW. I want the correct laws in place. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -

I can point you to a few web sites that deal with all these fairly atypical NRA responses if you want, I'm not going to waste my fingers on it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -

Yeah, those laws sure kept the guns away from VT and NIU, didn't they, Professor. The guy at NIU was 27 and a former student. And those laws and regulations STILL didn't deter him, did they? Another example of the fact that gun laws only deter the law-abiding. How about lack of gun laws preventing nut jobs from getting guns? But I'm sure the NRA has a solid reason on why someone taking drugs with a list of side effects a mile long need a hunting rifle to defend the farm. Lack of laws put the gun in this guys hand. More security is needed everywhere and on schools because of fucktards like this. But I'm sure someone will come back again and say "OMG I SWEARS CCW WILL BE THE BESTEST SOLUTION EVAR!" _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Here's a better idea - let's quit having the docs/schools hand them out like M&M's. Here is an even better idea: DO BOTH! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -

Ooooh - more than sixty! I think you'll find that with a combined total of thousands of semesters there are a vast number of schools, colleges and universities that forbid CCW that have gone without a single incident of gun violence/theft/accidents. Yeah, those laws sure kept the guns away from VT and NIU, didn't they, Professor. The guy at NIU was 27 and a former student. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -

Give me a break. I live in Illinois and don't want a CCW. Esp not with all the drugs that Dr's are handing out to kids to balance them out for whatever reason. Yes I know NIU, been there plenty of times. My friends wife just happened to not have class yesterday as well. So this hits way too close to home for me. Here is a good idea: Let's not let people on mood altering drugs get guns. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 935 False Statements by Bush & Co
ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
Many in the anti-Bush camp have been beating the drums for a long time about the endless parade of lies that have come from the White House since Iraq became a target. Well, it seems that a couple of people went about and counted every single one of them. It still boggles my mind how our Congress is just fine with not pushing for an Impeachment with staggering numbers like this. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080123/ap_on_go_pr_wh/misinformation_study And somehow we are to trust this administration still? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Too long - don't try to think about it because it upsets me. Why? Medical reasons related to my back and legs. A combination of issues and injuries that finally came to a head about two years ago that saw me lose partial use of my left leg for part of a day. The nerve damage eventually caused the pain to travel the sciatic route and it hurts just as much as people claim. The original issues were not caused from jumping but my last wingsuit jump opening was one one hell of a slammer and only made things worse. I will fly again, one way or another. However the recovery road is taking years longer than expected since it's not all that easy to work out with this injury. This isn't something I will rush as this pain is something I don't care to relive. I'll post as long as I want and don't care what anyone thinks. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Officials: Al Qaeda claims responsibility for Bhutto killing http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/meast/12/27/bhutto.dhs.alqaeda/index.html WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security issued a bulletin Thursday citing an alleged claim of responsibility by al Qaeda for former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination, a DHS official told CNN. But such a claim has not appeared on radical Islamist Web sites that regularly post such messages from al Qaeda and other militant groups. The source of the claim was apparently Italian news agency, Adnkronos International (AKI), which said that al Qaeda Afghanistan commander and spokesman Mustafa Abu Al-Yazid had telephoned the agency to make the claim. "We terminated the most precious American asset which vowed to defeat [the] mujahadeen," AKI quoted Al-Yazid as saying. According to AKI, al Qaeda No. 2 Ayman al-Zawahiri set the wheels in motion for the assassination in October. One Islamist Web site repeated the claim, but that Web site is not considered a reliable source for Islamist messages by experts in the field. The DHS official said the claim was "an unconfirmed open source claim of responsibility" and the bulletin was sent out at about 6 p.m. to state and local law enforcement agencies. The official characterized the bulletin as "information sharing." Ross Feinstein, spokesman for Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell, said the U.S. intelligence community is monitoring the situation and trying to figure out who is responsible for the assassination. "We are not in a position to confirm who may be responsible," Feinstein said. Feinstein said that the intelligence community "obviously analyze(s) open source intelligence," but he would not say whether the community believes the claim has any validity. For now, he said, there is "no conclusion" as to who may be responsible. Earlier, DHS spokesman Russ Knocke said Bhutto's assassination had not prompted "any adjustments to our security posture." "Of course, we continue to closely monitor events as they unfold overseas," he said. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... This post reminds of the one that went on for YEARS on the bnet forums http://www.blizzard.com/press/040401.shtml Blizzard Entertainment® Announces .999~ (Repeating) = 1 IRVINE, Calif. - APRIL 1, 2004 - At a press conference earlier today, Blizzard Entertainment® announced that .999~ does in fact equal 1. For seven and a half years, enthusiastic forum-goers have fervently debated the issue on the Battle.net® forums. Does .999~ equal 1? Does .999~ not equal 1? The popular forum topic reached its epic conclusion today, as Blizzard revealed the proof that finally brought an end to the discussion and thus resolved the conundrum that has plagued visitors to the forums for so long. "We are very excited to close the book on this subject once and for all," stated Mike Morhaime, Blizzard Entertainment president and co-founder. "We've witnessed the heartache and concern over whether .999~ does or does not equal 1, and we're proud that the following proof finally and conclusively addresses the issue for our customers." Consider: Proof: lim(m --> infinity) sum(n = 1)^m (9)/(10^n) = 1 0.9999... = 1 Thus x = 0.9999... 10x = 9.9999... 10x - x = 9.9999... - 0.9999... 9x = 9 x = 1. (infinity symbol code doesn't seem to work on these forums and thus entered the word up there) Elaborate and yet crafted with deceptive simplicity and elegance, Blizzard's proof that .999~ = 1 is a true wonder of modern mathematics. More information on how the proof was derived will be revealed in the months ahead. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... The drivebys were gang related, not everyone that died was in a gang. On another note, my Uncle was shot dead in a bar in Chicago as well. Owning a weapon wouldn't have stopped him getting shot in the back. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time as a bar fight went really bad. And from my understanding, the guy who shot the gun is out on the street now. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Same here. 34 years and counting, never have needed a gun. It should also be mentioned that both Kallend and I have worked in some of the highest crime areas of Chicago during that time as well. I spent one summer living on the block that had the highest murder rate in the city (five in one week) and I STILL didn't need a gun or a knife. I've also had someone break into my car and house....yet again, never needed a gun. And honestly, if the FAA can't put fear into Daley, the NRA doesn't have a chance of ever changing that law here while he is in office. That's politics in Chicago for ya. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

I can't say I have too many happy memories related to this time of year. Can't say I haven't tried to turn things around and make good ones, but after the events of this past year (Dad passing away from cancer and losing my job mostly due to missing time to be with family during those final months).....I can't even come close to the holiday spirit and just want 2008 to be here ASAP. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Why Ron Paul is lagging in the polls
ChasingBlueSky replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
Would it temper them or corrupt them and eventually morph them into what currently exists once they are in a position of power? The jaded side of me feels they will only remain pure while they have no control of anything. Paul is somewhat of an idealist and my biggest concern is that he would become quickly neutered by reality. Nonetheless, I still feel he is the best political option we have seen in many years. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Why Ron Paul is lagging in the polls
ChasingBlueSky replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
"Honest" and "in touch with reality" aren't actually word that you should be using to describe Ron Paul. He says we should immediately eliminate the IRS, FBI, CIA, DHS, HHS, SS . . . tell me, do you REALLY think that's being honest and in touch with reality or simply pandering? It would be chaos. Our government can't be dismantled over night and have every thing be rosy the next day. It simply can not be done and anyone that says it can is NOT in touch with reality or being honest with the public. I agree, the infrastructure in place couldn't go away over night.....or maybe that's what those in DC want us to believe. Slimming things down may be the best way to buck the system and break the commonality of unethical practices. I don't know what power the POTUS has to single handedly do this, so I believe he is over promising to have more leverage for negotiations down the line. At least he is smart enough to know how the game is played and knows that it needs to be changed. The system is broken, and the first person that has the balls and power to do so is labeled a nut job? Seems to me you are just as comfortable with taking the good with the bad in DC. And really, how more damaging would it be to have someone in office that is trying to improve our country over the ego driven bastard that is there now destroying everything this country has achieved in the past? BTW, I don't think any other internet meme has produced this much money before either. Not only are people voting with their internet traffic, they are using cash as well. Don't forget that some memes do grow beyond their original hype. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Why Ron Paul is lagging in the polls
ChasingBlueSky replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
Don't forget that every one pretty much has caller id now. Most don't pick up the phone if they don't recognize the number. I would wager that the polls are off and will continue to be false as they stick to outdated methods of measure. This is really something to think about. Thanks -
Why Ron Paul is lagging in the polls
ChasingBlueSky replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/28/Deweytruman12.jpg I believe in that contest Truman was at least the candidate for a major party in the general election. When Ron Paul achieves that status, I'll be willing to talk. Unless, of course, you wanna start making bets or something. You are basing your thoughts off the common media. The internet will have more of an impact on each election because it gives a voice to the individual. Ron Paul isn't Perot and a lot has changed since that time. There is a small revolution going on against the media and I think this will have a direct impact on where the votes go. I'm not a Paulite, but he is my current choice. That being said I wouldn't count him out yet. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
It wasn't bad, it wasn't amazing. Special FX were terrible but there isn't that much in the movie. Not much of a story or overall plot that extends outside of what the fist few minutes puts out there. They did almost nothing with the Vampires which was disappointing. The only thing that carries this movie is Will Smith's acting ability. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I think you really need Bill's help. The game is on Thursday! Anyhow, I didn't care for this prediction the first time I saw it in the movie called "Deep Impact" but for some odd reason yours has a bit of a comedic spin to it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Bad news is good business. There has never been an unbiased media. Ever. There is too much money there to be neutral. Then there is the human factor where everyone feels the need to take a side. There have been some individuals that strove for neutrality but that's about it. BTW, even many republicans are hostile towards republicans and vice versa. You can only screw someone over so long before they change their POV. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
