The merge is a done deal now. My GSM phone now reads "AT&T/Cingular" on the display. I have better coverage now than I ever have before. Last night on the way home I went thru a typical dead spot and didn't drop the call at all!! On top of the rollover minutes (thats cool!) I have free mobile to mobile calls to anyone on AT&T or Cingular now. I was going to drop AT&T because their customer service is piss poor, but I stuck it out to see how this merger would be. You really shouldn't use O'Reilly as the bellweather on media studies. He is also quite biased - pot calling colors there. The fact is the media has always had a bias. In earlier years it was heavily influenced to promote strong nationalistic images during WWII by the gov't and the war department, during the McCarthy years it promoted a feeling of paranoia, etc. There has always been someone with an agenda when it comes to journalism and entertainment. It's never been fully objective - even some of the biggest names in broadcast history were very biased, but history has painted a different picture of them. Even Murrow had an agenda - go back and pull up his news reports and watch them and you will see it. The media has come a bit more into its own in the last 25 years. They have empowered themselves. There are those that promote moderate opinions all the time, yet they don't make headlines because they are doing nothing wrong. Nope - MM doesn't represent me. Then again, there isn't anyone in the media or entertainment field that does. It seems to me that the current method is best: keeping him on the run and in hiding, with no safe havens, and confiscation of his funds, so that he is unable to mount any terror operations against us. By attacking in a proactive manner you are lending proof to the "America is the great evil" rhetoric, but the reality is that someone like OBL can't be left alone. However, we had a unique situation after 9/11 and could have gone after him and his crew - the world had given us a blank check with the support we had. Keeping him on the run, and keeping the insurgents on the run has spread us thin. Terrorism camps can now grow in other areas of the world because of how much focus we must now place in Iraq and Afghan. We should have kept our focus on the real threat. I was just transfered to Skokie two weeks ago (nothing like a 40 mile drive to work ) and enjoy being able to park my car for free...but there are almost no good lunch options in this part of town. Can you explain to me why the US wants a double standard for everyone else? We can build but we don't want anyone else to? Last I checked, we were the last country to use a nuke for more than just testing. Speaking of testing, we are about to resume underground testing in Utah, and start testing scramjet technology on missles and bunker busters. Ah, I see - we should drop it because it annoys you? You mean like the intelligence that helped us invade Iraq? Do you think that diplomacy is a waste of time and we should just bomb today? There are two possible scenarios: 1) Iran is telling the truth or 2) Iran is telling a big lie to buy time to either produce a weapon to attack or to buy more leverage in negotiations. We have to give them the benefit of the doubt and allow the negotiations to take their course, then the world would have reasons to take action against them. Do you really think we can afford the money, equipment or people for another front to the war in the middle east? We can't even get Iraq under control or keep the green zone free of attacks. By default we need to try to make negotiations work.
