  1. Anything right in the heart of the city is going to be more expensive by default - and the prices go up doing holidays or when a convention is in town. Even the Holiday Inn in River East gets expensive. You have all the big names here of course - and then the unique ones like "W" and the House of Blues Hotel. I've had a couple stays at 4 and 5 star hotels in Chicago (Four Seasons, Drake) and they are amazing! If you can afford it, tell him to stay at the WestInn - they have the most comfortable bed you will ever sleep in. Priceline is good, as is hotels.com, expedia, orbitz, and a Chicago only site called Hotrooms.com. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 2. I don't believe I said that. Nothing wrong with being an American, nor is there anything wrong with adding a modifier to a noun. I don't see anyone else introducing themselves as ___ - American either. Usually it is a topic that comes up later, just like anything else when people start asking questions to find out more about you. Nor do I really hear anyone demanding to be called anything. It helps with inclusion so people feel like part of a group. Lots of people need/want that in their lives. It makes them feel less alone in the world. Then the last school I worked at must have been racist - on the optional disclosure document during the enrollment it asked if you were "white" "black" "asian" etc. It didn't use hypens. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 3. Show me one war that the US was in were the troops had everthing they needed. But we didn't start those wars or plan the start date of them either. Bush and Co. knew this war was coming and they knew the date. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 5. Yea I wrote a 10 page term paper the other night here. The one good thing about orking this shift is I can do home work all night. And then some of us just can't sleep! Was tired of reading a book trying to fall asleep. I figured staring at the monitor might help. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

  7. Why not? I've never understood the big fuss on this topic either way. Why use any description? Why tell people you are a pilot, skydiver, mountain climber, salesperson, surfer, etc? You do it for attention, pride or to better describe yourself. The same goes for describing your heritage. If you don't like it, don't do it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

  10. And it is currently rising - one of the lakes in the show was documented to be sliding downhill. They think this may be a sign of gathering lava pool under the park. What is really cool is the way it erupts. There are a couple other caldera volcanos around the world. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 13. Just daydreaming about BM jumps today and a thought crossed my mind... Is there a suit out there that has large wings like the S3 and then a large stance like a M2? If not, what do you think the combination of the two would do performance wise. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 14. It's a west coast server, and most of the members are out west as well. Since most of those that play on it are over 20 they hold full time jobs and the servers becomes more active later at night. They are in the process of setting up an east coast server and players as well. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 16. Yes, at the moment Skyride is their primary marketing. It takes time to get marketing and word of mouth going. They are a fresh start-up and Skyride is helping to grow their business. The idea of Skyride is not a bad thing - its just another business and marketing model. Here is a good example on how a small dz with probably a small marketing budget can use this to their advantage. However, it is the repeated theft and bait/switch practices that destroy any good this business can do for the sport. Skyride, if done right, could be good for the industry. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  17. I play it sometimes, the problem is that some teams really suck, I mean, they just go running and shooting like idiots instead of being a little bit more "tactical", but when I find a server with players like that, HOURS of fun. BLAM!!! HEAD SHOT Damn, it happened again Try the uFN server for CS:S at 216.240.142.3:27019 and 216.55.181.55:27015 for HL2DM I seem to have the best luck on that one for good games. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 18. Nope - this isn't a contoversial post, but figured I could get the answer in this forum. I'm going Skeet shooting for the first time this weekend. They also mentioned 5 stand???? Someone want to tell me what that is? Also, anything I should know before going? I am only used to indoor 75 yard ranges with handguns and the occasional rifle. Any good websites? I can't wait to go. I used to go shooting (before jumping) a few times a month and haven't really gone too many times since I started to jump. Looks like I may have found something to do during the winter! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 20. This should be interesting, I will be setting my Tivo for these films when I get home tonight. http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/TV/12/07/apontv.first.amendment.ap/index.html The First Amendment examined Series of specials looks at freedom of expression NEW YORK (AP) -- If you don't think the First Amendment is a burning issue, you've already forgotten the ruckus over "Saving Private Ryan" just three weeks ago. Spooked by how the Feds might punish them, 66 ABC affiliates played safe by squelching that acclaimed war film. Their excuse was its handful of swear words. A case of prior restraint imposed by the government? Not exactly _ but, with 66 stations caving in to a perceived threat from the Federal Communications Commission, it's the next best thing. This is an excellent time, then, for "The First Amendment Project," four short films that, seizing various entry points, examine with flair what "freedom of expression" really means -- and the threats it's facing. In an unusual partnership, this series has been co-produced by Sundance Channel and Court TV -- both of which will air each half-hour film. Premiering Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST on Sundance and at 10 p.m. on Court TV: "Fox v. Franken" revels in Fox News Channel's quixotic crusade to bar publication of Al Franken's book "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right." Directed by Chris Hegedus and Nick Doob ("The War Room"), this film investigates, in aptly cheeky style, the First Amendment implications of cribbing a trademarked phrase (Fox's "Fair and Balanced" slogan) for the purpose of parody. Despite Fox host Bill O'Reilly's ire that his photo was on the book cover (and Fox's legal complaint that Franken was "deranged") the First Amendment stood firm against the Fox lawsuit -- while, fueled by the publicity, Franken's book shot to the top of the best-seller list. Right after that, "Poetic License" recalls the clash between New Jersey's poet laureate Amiri Baraka and his government patron, which in 2003 stripped him of his funding and title after a poem about the events of 9/11 triggered charges of anti-Semitism. Directed by actor-filmmaker Mario Van Peebles ("Baadasssss!"), this film interlaces Baraka's reading of his prickly poem with numerous viewpoints on the sometimes conditional nature of government arts money, and whether this amounts to government censorship. Airing Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 9 p.m. on Sundance and 10 p.m. on Court TV: "Some Assembly Required" travels back to the Republican National Convention in Manhattan, where the need for security collided with the First Amendment rights of protesters to assemble peaceably -- and where the First Amendment took some serious hits. "Every tyrant knows that if you can eliminate spaces where people assemble, you can protect yourself really well," says one speaker in noting how freedom of assembly is an innate part of the First Amendment. The film, by John Walter ("How to Draw a Bunny"), follows a couple of rather ordinary Americans as they, with some half-million others, exercise their right to dissent. The resistance they encounter is captured in footage you probably didn't see on TV news. Then in "No Joking," actor-filmmaker Bob Balaban ("Strangers with Candy") takes a fractured look at what is actually protected as free speech -- and what isn't (hint: CBS firing the outspokenly satiric Smothers Brothers in 1970 wasn't, in constitutional terms, censorship). This film, which features Eric Bogosian and Richard Dreyfuss, unearths fascinating footage of First Amendment poster boy Lenny Bruce, as well as other standards-flouting comedians such as Richard Pryor and George Carlin, who marvels at the variable power of language: "No one has ever gone to jail for screaming 'pneumonia' or 'topography.' But there are SOME words you can go to jail for!" Or, at least, that stir the hot breath of the government (as viewers who couldn't see "Saving Private Ryan" last month should consider). "We felt like this was a time when filmmakers' perspectives on the First Amendment were something that an audience would really like to hear," said Sundance programming head Adam Pincus in explaining "The First Amendment Project" -- "and it's only grown more timely in recent weeks." This joint exploration was a natural for Sundance and Court TV, their bosses agree: Court TV is devoted to important legal matters, while Sundance, an outlet for independent films, embraces artistic expression. The big idea emerging from their collaboration is that the First Amendment "makes all the sense in the world," says Sundance Channel President Larry Aidem, but still he worries that "it's blasphemy right now to a lot of people." "I think we have fundamental agreement on our respect for the First Amendment," says Court TV Chairman Henry Schleiff. "What we're struggling with, all of us, is the right balance." _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 21. http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=entertainmentNews&storyID=7004669 By Kate Holton LONDON (Reuters) - British comedian Rowan Atkinson -- creator of the hapless "Mr Bean" -- attacked a planned law outlawing incitement of religious hatred on Monday, saying it would curb free speech and humour. Atkinson believes the measure now passing through parliament will make religion virtually off-limits to satirists. It might even, he fears, lead to prosecutions, not only for some of his own sketches but for others like Monty Python's "Life of Brian," which was criticized on its release in 1979 for being anti-Christian. "Freedom of expression must be protected for artists and entertainers," he said. "We must not accept a bar on the lampooning of religion and religious leaders." The 49-year-old Atkinson, who rose to fame as the scheming and self-serving "Blackadder" in a lampoon of British history, has joined lawmakers and Christian groups in a campaign against the bill. At present, British law prohibits attacks on people's color, race or ethnic origin but not their religion. Critics of the plan to include religion believe a new law is not necessary. "There is an obvious difference between the behavior of racist agitators who can be prosecuted under existing laws and the activities of satirists and writers who may choose to make comedy or criticism of religious belief, practices or leaders..," Atkinson said in a statement. "It is one of the reasons why we have free speech." FREE SPEECH The British Humanist Association have backed Atkinson's campaign, saying the law would deny people the right to legitimately question and criticize different religions. But the Home Office denied the accusation, saying the law would protect "people not ideologies." "The Government is determined to preserve the right to engage in free and vigorous debate about religion, including the right to criticize religious beliefs and practices," a spokesman said. The proposals were welcomed by the majority of Britain's religious communities -- particularly its 1.8 million Muslims who say they have been subjected to a surge in abuse since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Critics of the law, which has been included in the Serious Organized Crime and Police Bill, say there is already enough legislation to deal with attacks on religion. The government first tried to introduce laws banning religious discrimination in 2001 but the House of Lords, Britain's upper parliamentary chamber, blocked the proposal _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 24. Good on ya! Any opinion based off of an informed educated decision is something I respect, even if it doesn't line up with my personal beliefs. I want to challenge you on this point. The leader will still have the right to express his/her own personal opinions or decorate their own property. However, forcing the local gov't to put up decorations across town that represent his/her religious convictions is wrong. For instance, just about a mile from where I grew up was a huge middle east and eastern population that included quite a few religions (Sikh, Muslim, etc). But this was a large town and it included a large Christian population as well. Would it be right to have Muslim symbols across the entire town or Christian symbols all across town on public property? Agreed. Students should be allowed free expression and speech just like the rest of the country. I think schools make up rules to prevent anyone from being offended in the end (trying to be proactive to prevent problems but it has worked against them) - and those that get offended tend to be the parents, not the students. Ask almost any teacher what the worst part of their job is and they will usually say "the parents." I'll try to get around to reading that brief. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
