Sums up a LOT about skydiving and it relation to life, IMO. Where is that from? I'd like to read it in context. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Fears of Troops Spread Thin, Specter of the Draft

Apparently the CIA doesn't seem to agree with you. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6665231/ At least he gets to go home after his one year tour of duty. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -

You know, they ought to change them from SSN to SIN - Social Security Number to Social Identification Number. (the nutjobs will love that name) Really, we all know the number is who we are to the government, not just some convenient way for them to give us back our own money. Due to identity theft they removed the SSN from the IL drivers license a few years ago. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Damn - need to make some phone calls to make sure my friends were at home. Looking like this may be a better scenario than last year. So far 26 people hurt and all in the hospital - most are above 'fair' condition, two of them were firefighters. I always found the grandfather clause on the spinkler system for the skyscrapers here in the city to be odd, esp since the tallest ladder in the CFD can only go as high as the 15th floor (notice they are on the roofs of other buildings to try to reach the flames). Did you see the footage earlier this year when they recreated the fire from last year? They are trying to use that to force the Mayor to get sprinklers put into all the old buildings, but they are saying due to $$$ that may never happen. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Jeb Corliss Gets Set For World Record Landing Attempt
ChasingBlueSky replied to JeepDiver's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Would you count the MR Bill at Rantoul as landing without a parachute?? Or would you not since he was riding someone else? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
With the limited interaction I have had with the deaf community I found a strong pride. I asked a few deaf individuals if they would ever take an opportunity to enter the hearing world and they all said no. Of course I cannot relate, but I do respect their personal decision. Is it abuse what they were doing to their child? I don't think so - and if it was, the state would most likely have gotten involved. It seems the parents have made an informed, educated choice for their child - which is their right. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... It might be - I can't get past the first room where you have to shoot three targets. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

and for once its not me....that reminds me of a story....but thats a whole nother thread.....soon to follow On a side note - someone took an old Monarch 135 at the DZ and made up handles to fly the thing like one of BigAir's Kites....and we flew it while on a wind hold. Add a nice piece of cardboard and we were surfing! Then there was the time someone (Rainbo) decided to hook up an old round to a sled in the middle of the winter ..... _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... There is video floating around of someone that did that - and once in the air it lost some speed and he dropped hard. Get video - RealTV needs some new stuff on it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

I can get into Multiplayer because I finished the basic training but I cannot progress further in the training part (I want to see what the Airborn section is like). The MOUT training seems to have a bug in it - despite shooting targets A, B, and C and using the flashbang, the game is not registering the completed objectives. I am on version 2.2.1 _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

I've never played condition zero. CS:S is just the original CS with the Half Life 2 graphics and physics. btw - downloaded America's Army this weekend as well. Fun game and you can't beat the price: free! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Yup, played a bunch of CS:S this weekend. I'm on there with the same name I use here - so if you have Steam it would be easy to find me. I tend to play on the uFN servers since there are less kids and more people over the age of 20 on it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... And they picked the wrong weekend to lose after the Bears did the same thing to the Vikings!! Wow, what a game to watch! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Why are so many American jobs being shipped overseas?
ChasingBlueSky replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
IBM has been doing that for some time - when I was working for them in the late 90s they forced everyone in one dept into retirment, then hired them as consultants with the company that group created, then let those consultants go and then hired them back on as IBM employees again (which had them earning a paycheck and a pension from the same company). This all happened in just one year! Household was purchased by a Japanese company about two-three years ago - the fate of everyone in that company has been suspect for some time. There has never been a public plan of who will stay or who will go in any department. We presented a proposal to the Dept of Labor showing a growth in IT jobs in IL over the last four years and a total predicted growth of 75% in Networking and 84% growth in Applications. However, old skillsets, easy skillsets (HTML and web design) and entry level jobs are almost non-existant. (there are still some out there - a major consulting firm is interviewing all of our entry level Java students) Softskill jobs are hard to find as well (Sys Analysts, PM, etc). Unless you already have a background in OO programming you are too far behind the curve to get a job now. What does this mean? If you were not proactive in upgrading your skillset in areas that can easily be shipped offshore you are in trouble. Most of the larger firms are sending stuff offshore and its the small and medium size companies that are doing the hiring (at a lower salary) and they do not have the infrastructure to do on the job training or allow for a learning curve - they want someone that can hit the ground running. If you are in networking you are better off, somewhat. These jobs tend to be staying here but there is a flood of talent in the entry to midlevel market and not enough jobs to go around. The market is tough - and I doubt it will go back to the way it was. The jobs are there, but only if you have the right skillset, experience and the right amount of luck/timing. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Affirmative. Some people are able to make logical conclusions based on fasts and events. It also takes the ability to be biased and not a sheep to their party. Dude.... Glad I wasn't the only one that caught that! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
Maybe it's not the wing suit design changes so much as it is the conditions in which it will be flown. Like right now here in SoCal the winds are howling outside. About 40+ mph I'd guess. Now, we all know that to slow down the vertical speed the horizontal speed must increase. What if the successful WS pilot were to jump in gale force winds? He'd be able to slow down his vertical speed and his horizontal speed would be countered by the head wind he'd be facing. Hmmmmmm...... ltdiver A whole lot of "what ifs" in there. Why not wait till one of those 60-70mph wind days we get here in the midwest in the early spring? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Whuffos are attracted to very visually stimulating images from our sport or the outlandish ideas we come up with. I find that pics of HUGE ways, large CRW jumps, wind tunnel video, swooping next to mountains, and anything WS related gets their attention. WS esp seem to get the most questions - and maybe thats what Go Fast was going for - to create some hype to get some nice publicity. Nothing wrong with that, IMO, as long as they stay safe. I usually just tell them they will hear about it in the news good or bad the same time I do. I tell them that even if it wasn't possible there will be someone out there that will try to prove that wrong. I'm curious what these new technologies they are creating to help land a WS. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Anyone know what WS he was flying? And I agree - why have the VX 39 fly along side it? You can't compare a WS to a canopy that is still huge compared to the wing of a WS - plus the canopy can flare. A GPS on the WS would have worked just as well. I was under the impression that the S3 is about as large as a wing you can get without increasing drag so much that it would damage the arms. Without a larger wing how are you going to create enough drag to allow a slow enough landing? The forward speed will be the biggest issue, then how will you flare it to slow it down without causing a high speed stall or too much lift? I'm not as current with my physics as I once was, but after a conversation I recently had with Kallend - it seems like this just isn't mathematically possible. I realize that there will be those that will chase this goal of safely landing a WS without a parachute - but I'm starting to think it may be the same as the search for the Holy Grail. Nope, I won't take any bets on this when someone's life is on the line. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... What can we do about Skyride?
ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
And those photographers have made phone calls, sent letters and emails informing them they were in violation of using stolen images - well over a year or two ago!!! I believe certified letters have been sent in regards to the pictures as well. In fact, some of those photographers have mentioned it here on the forums as well (where there are rumors of Skyride owners reading this thread). Check out this post and notice the date: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=756466;#756466 What would the definition of "soon" be in terms of "I hope that will be taken care of soon." How about the use of TM'd items that have been pointed out in this thread? Or the total theft of websites with the intent to confuse? How would a certain rigging loft based out of ASC like it if someone was stealing money from them or misrepresenting the work that was done there? I'm thinking they would be proud of the hard work they have done to establish their name. I'm also pretty certain they would be pissed off if there was a person or two out there that was causing this damage and others were blindly supporting them in their efforts. Better yet - would you knowingly repack a stolen rig and give it back to the thief??? If you were to ignore everything else about Skyride - this theft would still be outstanding. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Fears of Troops Spread Thin, Specter of the Draft
ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
Exactly. It has been proven many times in history that the passionate individual will always make a better soldier. Look at the people that choose the risk of being convicted of treason when the fought against the British in both America and Ireland to fight for independence. I wouldn't go that far. Everyone gives back in their own way and all parts are good for the country. You are being counter productive by trying to measure which is better or best. Even with the intentions you may have had with that statement, it really is an insult to those that have served to compare it to a gang member or to say they had no choice. Yes, the military does seem to target lower income neighborhoods - but that is just a good marketing and business plan that many corporations follow (ie going for a target audience that is willing to "buy" what you are selling). But all walks of life can and do end up in civil service. That is the great thing - they can make the choice if they want to serve as a cop, gov't worker, or in the military. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
