Yup, great movie and I now own it. I have watched it twice since it came out on DVD - once in Chinese with subtitles and another in English. I feel the dialog is better without the english dub - they changed alot of it around to include slang and it just doesn't feel as majestic that way. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... BTW the destruction of high density puplic housing has been going on for the last 20 yr's. Something needed to be done, it will be interesting to see if this solves any problems, or create more. At least in Chicago they built new single family homes for those removed from the public housing units before they destroyed them. Gangs are like termites - they will just move to the next house that doesn't get treated monthly. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Dems had "Sweetheart" Segregation Deal
ChasingBlueSky replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
Agreed. If anyone has ever spent time in an inner city school you would see that policy is not working, but money will help. Combine that with the passion of the teachers and it will work. This sweetheart deal is disgusting. The funny thing is, he is trying to give a black eye on his way out about something that happened years ago while he is still to this day making racist comments. Wendy - great analogy with the soccer field. You have to wonder if those that are against AA are really concerned about the country allowing reverse racisms or if something else..... I don't know too many people that have lost a job or been passed over due to AA, do you?? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... "Someone Keeps Stealing My Letters!" I'm not sure if this is a repost or not: The game involves dragging letters and making words while competing against hundreds of other people, in real time, for available letters. http://web.okaygo.co.uk/apps/letters/flashcom/ Add a screen capture if you can get something good (like dropzone.com) _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I'm not sure how credible this is - but on the show Mythbusters they fired a gun thru the bulkhead and window of a presurized airplane and no structural damage appeared. Of course the plane wasn't in flight when this happened, so it's not foolproof. But, what would a weapon do to the controls of an airplane with a misfire or scuffle? If you do give a gun to a pilot they should be required to pass small quarter training first. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Maybe you have not looked hard enough? Would you post it if you did? Yup, I've looked (I have news alerts emailed to me so I can keep up to date), and yes I would post it. Got any off the top of your head you can mention, with links? BTW - nice way to take attention away from the two republicans that did admit guilt. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Well, maybe the loss happened because of tampering?? There are two Repubs in that story that have admited guilt to it. With all of the pride the Repubs have been taking in this election and previous ones, its nice to point out that there have been illegal activites about it. Besides, haven't seen too many stories lately about a Dem screwing up. I, however, have defended Republicans, if that counts. Also, whenever one party is in power, the other side tends to be a bit noisy to compensate for that loss of power. For instance - look at how the Repubs rasied a stink for eight years while Clinton was in office. Since this forum wasn't online during that time, there is no way for you to know what I was saying back then. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Just nice to see it come to light. Looks like more to come as well: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/14/politics/14cong.html?ex=1103691600&en=b22c584262c794cf&ei=5006&partner=ALTAVISTA1 Democrats Say They'll Assume Watchdog Role By SHERYL GAY STOLBERG Published: December 14, 2004 ASHINGTON, Dec. 13 - Complaining that Republicans have failed to oversee how billions of dollars of taxpayer money is being spent, Senate Democrats said Monday that they would begin holding oversight hearings of their own, even though they are in the minority and have no subpoena power to compel the testimony of government officials. "The Congressional watchdog remains fast asleep, and we intend to wake it up," Senator Byron L. Dorgan of North Dakota, who is chairman of the Democratic Policy Committee, said at a news briefing. Mr. Dorgan was joined, via videoconference, by Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the new Democratic leader, who has repeatedly said that he would "rather dance than fight" with Republicans. Mr. Reid said that the hearings, to be run by the policy committee, would be "set up as fairly as possible," with Democrats offering Republicans a chance to participate and call witnesses. "We're going to try to be as fair as they have not been to us," Mr. Reid said. Mr. Dorgan added, "And if the Republicans decide to hold their own oversight hearings, there will be no need for this project." The announcement, which came on a sleepy afternoon in an otherwise deserted Capitol, amounted to a throwing down of the gauntlet by Democrats, who are struggling to find a voice in Washington with Republicans in control of the White House and both houses of Congress. When the new Congress convenes in January, Republicans will have an expanded majority of 55 senators, leaving Democrats with little way to get their message across. Few Republicans were on hand to respond to the Democrats' announcement on Monday afternoon. A spokesman for the Senate Republican Conference declined to comment, saying that officials had not yet been briefed on the Democrats' plans. Mr. Dorgan said the hearings would begin in late January and continue at least monthly, on matters as diverse as the Bush administration's No Child Left Behind Act, contracts for business in Iraq, and abuses at American-run prisons and detention facilities in Iraq and Afghanistan. Lack of oversight has been a sore point among Democrats, and even some Republicans have said that their party can do a better job of examining issues like the abuse at the Abu Ghraib prison outside Baghdad. Still, there are questions about how much Democrats can expose by holding hearings, particularly given the lack of subpoena power. Mr. Dorgan insisted he was not worried. He said the policy committee, created by law in 1947 along with a Republican counterpart, had the authority to hold hearings and have witnesses. "Frankly," he said, "my experience has been there are plenty of whistle-blowers who are very interested and anxious to find a forum in which to tell their story." _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Welcome home. www.dice.com Often lists plenty of jobs looking for security clearance. As does www.Monster.com. Your best bet is to search for jobs looking for clearance and calling them even if they have no jobs available and asking them if they have a spot for you, or if they know someone that does. You will run into more dead ends than leads, but the ones that pan out will be strong. I will PM you a list of Chicago area job networking groups (about 18 pages of them). _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... No More Late Fees from Blockbuster!!!
ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in The Bonfire
Blockbuster to End Late Fees in 2005 By Associated Press Published December 14, 2004, 9:18 AM CST DALLAS -- Blockbuster Inc., the nation's biggest movie rental company, plans to eliminate late fees on games and movies as of Jan. 1. But there is plenty of fine print, which suggests that Blockbuster is still struggling to come up with a formula to blunt the competitive threat from NetFlix and cable operators' movies on demand offerings. Its shares were down 21 cents, or 2.5 percent, at $8.05 in morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Blockbuster announced Tuesday it will continue to set due dates, with one week for games and two days or one week for movies. But the company will give customers a one-week grace period at no additional charge, starting on New Year's Day. Renters who want to keep movies or games longer can buy the products, less the rental fee. Or, Blockbuster says customers can return products within 30 days for credit to their accounts, with a restocking fee. "Doing away with late fees is the biggest and most important customer benefit we've ever offered in our company's history," John Antioco, Blockbuster Inc. chairman and chief executive, said in a prepared statement. "So as of the first of the year, if our customers need an extra day or two with their movies and games, they can take it." Officials of the Dallas-based company also said Tuesday they expect continued softness in the rental industry and flat operating income in 2005 compared with this year before the estimated $50 million costs of marketing and implementing the late-fee elimination policy. Blockbuster said it has tested the new program in some markets and found increased rental transactions and retail sales offset the decline in revenue resulting from eliminating late fees. For the full year 2005, the Company projects that late fees would have contributed approximately $250 to $300 million to operating income. But it said that is expected to be offset by growth in revenues due to increased store traffic, less promotional and marketing activity and an increased focus on operating expense management. Blockbuster has more than 4,500 company-operated and participating franchised stores in the United States. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041214/ap_on_re_us/gop_phone_jamming Ex-Bush Campaign Official Pleads Innocent By KATHARINE WEBSTER, Associated Press writer CONCORD, N.H. - President Bush's former New England campaign chairman pleaded innocent Monday to charges that he took part in the jamming of the Democrats' get-out-the-vote phone lines on Election Day 2002. James Tobin, 44, was charged with conspiracy to commit telephone harassment and aiding and abetting. He could get up to five years in prison if convicted; his trial begins Feb. 1. Neither Tobin nor his lawyers would comment afterward. Tobin, who was northeast political director of the Republican Senatorial Committee in 2002, was indicted Dec. 1 after an investigation by the Justice Department. He is free on his own recognizance. Tobin stepped down as Bush's regional campaign chairman Oct. 15, when state Democrats said in a separate civil lawsuit they believed he took part in the phone-jamming scheme. When he was indicted two weeks ago, he said he would fight to clear his name. Two other Republicans have pleaded guilty in the phone-jamming operation and are scheduled to be sentenced in February and March. In 2002, six phone lines run by the Democrats and the Manchester firefighters union were tied up for 1 1/2 hours by 800 computer-generated hang-up calls. Federal prosecutors said Tobin and other Republicans had hired a company to make the calls to disrupt the organizations' get-out-the-vote efforts. Among the races affected by the jamming was the Senate contest between Democratic Gov. Jeanne Shaheen and Republican Rep. John E. Sununu. Sununu won by about 20,000 votes. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
Yes they were wrong as well, and the ones that Bush Sr did as well. Why do "no bid" contracts? After the many stories that have come out of this war about them and the companies they have chosen, and the lack of concern for the lives of our soldiers, hopefully those in the White House have learned from their mistakes. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Iran will talk with the US about Nukes
ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
But we really don't know that. Therefore we must step in and go talk to them - they put the invite out there. If we don't go, then Bush gets trigger happy again and we invade Iran only to find out nothing was there yet again???? Is it risky to let a possible stall happen? Yup. But we need to pursue peace first. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -

Then I suggest you use the Google News Search tool. He did hand out no bid contracts. Then educate us on how the money is spent. From what I have seen too much money was paid for services to civilian contractors and those keeping the peace didn't get enough money. Bush has shown he has no ablility to manage finite resources. But please, feel free to educate us all. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
