  1. Just to add another point of view.... On my last radio assisted jump, there were 2 of us (students) on the load. I was doing a solo, the other jumper his graduation dive. The winds aloft were kickin, so we were insructed upon opening to face into the wind and stay until down below the upper winds else we would be blow into the next town. During the dive, as I pulled, I saw the other jumper (spinning like a top) and his jumpmaster fall past, and I remember thinking gosh that sucks (as I had my own spinning issues during the progression). I did my controlability check and faced into the wind. Immediately after, what I heard was a frantic "cutaway NOW", and I looked down going WTF is going on down there?!?!? in time to see the main float away as a reserve inflated. The student landed in a nearby field and was ok. Once I landed, I was curious as to what happened...well he lost alti awareness in the turns and pulled as the cypress fired. The ground person saw the reserve "bucking up the main lines" so he instructed to cutaway. In this particular scenario, given the proximity to the ground, and an obviously unaware student, do you think the instruction to cutaway was a wrong one?? (Oh, and he claims he said that students name before the 'cutaway' command, but I swear I never heard it) Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

  3. Amber, have you tried to occupy his mind a bit more. It sounds as if he may be bored. A covered kennel with plenty of mind toys would be best (pm me for ideas to hinder the digging). They make little balls and cubes you can fill with treats and as they roll around, out comes the treat. These have been proven great for destructive behavior, it channels their energy to good. They are a great short term solution while you recondition his behavior. These things are fairly cheap, but pm me for some dirt cheap ideas and more info if needed. Our prices are as follows: Spitfire (20sf): $200. Terrafoil: (25sf): $250. Landsurfer: (35 sf): $350 Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

  10. Ok, Dave, I got the doc to believe I fractured a tibia and a fibula when I 'jumped off a step and twisted my foot when it hit the ground', a week after surgery I have to call because instead of "NO WEIGHT BEARING" I slipped with the crutches and fell down a flight of steps directly on the cast, I do not want to call up and try to describe a 'kite flying incident'. I just think that is pushing it! Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  11. Argh, conveniently their kite site is under construction, no odering info, etc. Any other ideas?? Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

  17. I have a suspicion we may never know. When the military investigates this stuff, the outcome hardly ever is brought public. If it is, it is usually 3-6 months later and very vague. I am dying of curiosity as well, but not holding my breath. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

  19. My fortune in the fortune cookie from the restaurant I hobbled into on crutches....... "You are a practical person with your feet on the ground" Which incites much ribbing from the whuffo friends, "at least for 6 more weeks anyway" "hey tape that to your cast" Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  20. Pammi, I heard this on the news the other night. Several (like 4 or 5) military jumpers had reserve rides dur to cut suspension lines on the main. Inspection of gear on the rack revealed quite a few more (like 20 some). As is common with our news coverage here, we hear the start, but never get a follow up, I haven't heard anymore since. So I guess I am really not that much of a help Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

  25. *disclaimer* I am not, nor do I profess to be a beauty *disclaimer* I do not, however, believe in false advertising. On the same token, I do not false advertise, I am me, just plain ol me. What you see is what you get. I do not own a "push up bra" and I feel absolutely no need to wear makeup during any sport. At the gym, hiking, riding horses, skydiving, rockclimbing, etc., the hair goes back in a pony tail or under a cap, sometimes I remember lip balm sometimes I dont. I really could care less. Once it is all over and I am dripping with sweat, a shower returns me to my normal state. If it is a special occasion, or a formal affair, I will apply only the basics. For any kind of sport, it just seems pointless to me. Just my opinion. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
