  1. Follow Orange1's link in post #2. Parent's divorced. Dad signs waiver, kid dies. Mom sues. And even if both parents signed a waiver, a grandparent could sue. A brother could sue, etc etc. In most states, and in most cases, that's really not correct, as long as at least 1 of the parents is still living. I've always considered the biggest risk is that the injured minor can sue for themselves upon their 18th birthday.
  2. Excuse me? She is lobbying for a seat in the Senate. The concept of the Governor appointing someone who has never stood for public office in her life is repugnant.
  3. While it is true that the Islam of Saladin was more tolerant than the Christianity of Urban or Innocent, The Islam of the of today's Ayatollas and Imams in Iran, Saudi Arabia, or Syria display no such virtue. Laws which say my word is worth less in court, annual fees for being an infidel, death as the price of conversion; these are not the hallmarks of tolerance. It is interesting to note that the Kurdish descendants of Saladin are hated and persecuted by Sunni, Shiite and Secular regime equally.
  4. I think it is clear that neither the Muslims nor the Jews can justly rule Jerusalem. What is obviously needed is for a new Kingdom of Jerusalem run by Christians. That way everyone will be able to live and worship in peace. Perhaps some former western leaders can get together and raise an army to take the city and restore it to it's former glory. It's the only solution. I know Bush is a protestant and Blair a Catholic, but they have already proven they can work together for the good of the middle east and the whole world. What do you think.
  5. Not always. Is that what happened in Viet Nam?
  6. Actually the reports I heard were that most of the casualties were not women and children at all. Those pictures however, make better press.
  7. Well you could look at it as he enabled us to feed ourselves using much less land than we otherwise would have had to. More room for parks and strip malls.
  8. Pretty much sums it up, but the *why* of it goes back to Martin Luther posting his theses, etc. There's theological differences as well, involving things like who can forgive sins, who can be the arbiter in a relationship with God, transubstantiation, holiness of mary and the saints, etc. Right, but does that mean that the Rastafarians and the Mormons are protestant sects, or is there another point of departure somewhere along the way? They are unquestionably Catholic.
  9. I wonder how many do just that. I have always questioned the no voting for felons laws validity, but I really don't understand the play between the US constitution and the state legislatures very well.
  10. What determines who is a protestant? I generally think of them as Christians who are not Catholic. Is there any other criteria?
  11. How are felons excluded then? Off the top of my head (such as it is), I don't think they are. Ironically, though, in many states they'd be unable to vote for themselves. Are the rules to get yourself on the ballot not controlled by the states?
  12. Whats to elaborate? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! EDIT Sorry....am I missing something??? Perhaps I'm just over tired....need sleep. Are you suggestion that Catholicism was not the original Christian religion? If you are you could offer an alternative hypothesis.
  13. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!! Sorry...I can't restrain myself sometimes, I just had to post something this time. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!! Care to elaborate?
  14. There was an accident last year where the jumper was using an RSL and so didn't get stable before dumping his reserve. He still had line twists when he hit the ground. He was facing backwards and hit the back of his head, breaking his helmet and injuring himself badly. QUESTION: If he didn't have time to kick out of line twists what are the chances he would have gotten a reserve at all if had delayed deployment to 'get stable?'
  15. The point is that it would add nothing to the equation. It is similar to your local city council issuing driver's license; it has no value over the state issued one.
  16. I am embarrassed. I thought Nixon won the popular vote. I didn't check my facts before I posted.
  17. Omnipot. Philologically correct, but I am not sure it's a word.
  18. Given the way that Kennedy/LBJ/McNamera amped up the Cold War in response to USSR overtures, how can you presume that Nixon would have been worse? Is Nixon's war in Cambodia that much worse than LBJ's fabricated Tonkin Incident? Both of them seemed equally crazy to me, just on different sides of the aisle. I made no such presumption. I consider Nixon to be one of the best foreign policy presidents of the twentieth century. The measured response doctrine of McNamara was not one believed in by Kissinger or Nixon. Add that to Eisenhower's often stated belief that a protracted land war in Asia was to be avoided at (almost) all costs, we can surmise that Nixon/Kissinger would have either declined to increase the US's presence in Viet Nam, or gone in full force a lot earlier than Johnson eventually did. Given either of those possibilities I think the possibilities in Cambodia were too far down the alternate time line to really consider. As for Cuba I think a similar non action/massive response choice would have resulted; either they would not have made the play, or they would have supported it.
  19. Constitutional comprehension fail. The states elect the President, not the people. The various states could do it by a coin toss (assuming the individual state constitutions/laws allowed it) and it would be perfectly legal. True, but would that be democratic?
  20. While the system you describe is interesting and certainly within CSPA guidelines it is peculiar to your dZ only, I think. The CSPA system has a few paths like the USPA system with the most common one in use (by DZ) being one or two IADs followed by a 5 or 6 level PFF program. This is followed by a few supervised solo jumps to complete tasks like spotting, accuracy canopy tasks etc. At the larger DZs (and so the more common in terms of actual students) Tandem to PFF is used. There is no requirement for a video jump. First jump PFF is allowed, but not in common use. A standard progression "RAPS" style system is also common. The SOLO certificate is after 10 jumps and follows an oral exam of 10 questions. It is a true Certificate of Proficiency and the novice is not under an instructor. The novice is restricted to solo jumps and 2 ways with a coach. Higher minimum opening and lower maximum wind limits are in effect. AADs are mandatory for solo certificate jumpers An A CoP has a minimum of 25 jumps and includes a minimum of 5 two-ways with a coach-2 including docking, levels and tracking tasks. Further canopy and accuracy skill demonstrations are also required as well as a written multiple choice exam of 80 questions.
