  1. If the menu said it was part of the charge then it is owed regardless of how good or bad the service was. Why the police get involved in a civil dispute is beyond me.
  2. How would your reserve have performed in those conditions?
  3. JohnnyD are you under the impression that he is running for the State Legislature of NC?
  4. Push to attach Iran? Seriously? With what? The local VFW? Boy scout troop? Do you not realize that he is running for a local office, not a national office? Well, a few years ago the holder of that local office voted to use the United States Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine corps to attack Iraq.
  5. all for the low, low price of $250. . DAYUM! If I was eligible to make contributions I would be all over that like a bible thumper at a book burning.
  6. Wow. I realise that the House of Reps is the larger of the two houses and therefore has members that can focus on smaller districts, but to suggest that membership in one of the most powerfull institutions in the world is a local office borders on the surreal. Has it occured to you that huge portions of government pork, waste and graft are as a result of congressmen asking "What's in it for my district?" For example should a congressman in Philly vote against security provisions at the port that may protect the nation from terrorists because it will cost jobs down at the docks? Should D'Annunzio (if elected) push to attack Iran because it will increase the military budget and thus help the NC 8th district? The United states need leaders in both houses of Congress not ward bosses. Just mho.
  7. Yes but what will happen to global warming then?
  8. Actually having been a professional saeman I would not be in favour of ships crews being armed against pirates. I am in favour of armed security professionals dong that job. My second choice would be an arms locker under the lock and key of the master.
  9. Since the activity seems to be largely limited to a specific area (NW Indian Ocean) There is probably an opportunity available for a security firm that boards ships as they enter the area and disembarks as they leave. I guess the problem is if they are effective they may work themselves out of business before their start up costs are realised.
  10. It seems to me that some sort of shoulder launched surface to surface/sidewinder type device would be effective. In the 17th century pirates were considered to be pure outlaws; killing them on site was sanctioned by most governments. I would have no problem with fighters from the fifth fleet popping by and removing them as they are spotted.
  11. I agree wholeheartedly. However demanding that the rest of the world work around your family doesn't work either. As I have no doubt you have learned, planning is a major part of responsible parenthood. That and recognizing the sacrifices you will have to make so as to not ask everyone else to make them. This woman does not seem to have done that.
  12. Don't know if you enjoy it but can't stop watching. That is probably exactly like the creators wanted it. Keep watching and keep trying to figure it out. Most of your questions will be answered, but only if you pay attention. Enjoy!
  13. Exactly! Since when does military command need micro managing over purple hearts? There is already a medal that Congress has purview over. If they don't think that is appropriate (and clearly it isn't) then they should stick to their knitting.
  14. Skydecker I would like to thank you for fucking up this perfectly good thread with invectives about peoples assumed political leanings.
  15. I realize this, and if the military has a policy in place to retain soldiers who ind themselves in situations like this then that is all well and good, but it seems to me that any soldier, active or reserve, should be prepared to be deployed at any time. It seems to me that someone in her position would be a good candidate for a civilian position on base. People can accuse me of being old fashioned, but isn't the point of being a soldier to provide security for mothers to raise their babies?
  16. Properly briefed and properly supervised spectators are not a problem. Other than the fact that they usually haven't signed the waiver. If there is a spectator standing near my cameraflyer they will miss the landing shot as I will land away.
  17. I agree. I worked the ending out around the limousine scene and was resigned to it, but I sure didn't like it. Like you say, this concept doesn't lend itself to a conclusion of any kind.
  18. When you say single parent do you mean truely single, i.e. no help or presence from the other parent? If so who took care of your child?
  19. And yet, after millions of years of evolution, the problem hasn't worked itself out.... Hmmmmm. Why would it? PMS serves the evolutionary function of chasing off the dude that did not get her pregnant last month.
  20. If I was in the service and found myself alone raising a child I would like to think I would have the sense to find a new career. This is also true for traveling salesman, rock and roll roadie, politician, as well as a few other choices. Now I realize that the military provides a secure source of income and benefits that are very hard to give up for a young mother, and she already has shown a penchant for poor life choices (sleeping with loser), but the demands of single parenthood are simply too great for that job. Actually she has realized this, but after your deployment orders are received is a bit late.
  21. The problem with red light cameras is the corporation who runs them is on commission. This leads them to pressure the authorities to tighten the criteria for getting a ticket. When they brought them into British Columbia (owner fine, no points) the criteria was laid out- if your rear bumper is in the intersection when it turns red, no ticket. As long as that remains the case I am in favour of them. After all intersections are where the accidents happen.
  22. Yes it could have been handled better, but the bottom line is that single parents should not be deployed at all. A child with only one parent is disadvantaged from the get go, they cannot be deprived of the other one for months at a time. This should probably not be the military's problem (I can hear them now, "Were soldiers dammit, not f*%king social workers!") but it is. The military is probably not the best career for a single parent.
  23. Here's an idea. Stop napping, reading, playing on the internet and work hard the whole day long. Then when you are his boss you can stop worrying about him.
